GHANA PRESIDENT UNDERTAKES STATE VISIT TO ZAMBIA IN APRIL 2014

Lusaka, 30th January 2015—His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia has invited President John Dlamani Mahama of Ghana to visit Zambia to improve the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a bilateral consultation called by Ghana on the margins of the on-going African Union Summit of Heads of State, President Mahama accepted President Lungu’s invitation and promised to undertake a State Visit to Zambia in April 2015. The main focus of the State Visit will be economic cooperation in the area of small-scale mining, agriculture and tourism.

President Lungu has since directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Harry Kalaba to send a team of experts to Ghana to prepare for the State Visit. Zambia and Ghana agreed to hold the Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation ahead of the State Visit.

President Mahama congratulated President Lungu on his victory in the January 20 presidential poll and pledged to work closely with him at bilateral and multilateral levels. The two heads of state acknowledged the excellent historical relations that exist between the two countries. Ghana pledged to offer her expertise in mining particularly the developing of mining tax regimes.

On January 28, President Lungu held a closed-door bilateral meeting with His Excellency Mr. Abdel Fattah El Sissi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
President El Sissi promised to offer assistance in many areas of its capabilities such as defence and counter-terrorism training, energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, tourism and infrastructure development.

“Defence academies are available for Zambia to utilise and we are keen to provide this assistance and other forms of cooperation,” President El Sissi said.
President Lungu thanked Egypt for their support to the mediation and conflict prevention capacities of the African Union.

The President hailed the excellent bilateral relations that Zambia and Egypt enjoy, which are founded on a long and deep-rooted friendship.

He said the number of high-level visits between the two countries, which saw almost every previous Zambian Head of State visit Egypt, is a manifestation of the importance of the relations between the two countries.

He underscored the need to reinvigorate relations between the two countries, under the framework of the already existing framework (the Joint Permanent Commission) for enhanced economic and social cooperation for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.

He appreciated that the Egyptian government continues to face challenges in the return to political stability but encouraged the leadership not to relent in its efforts to return the country back to full stability. President Lungu looked forward to greater coordination and collaboration on regional and international matters of mutual interest to both countries.
The President thanked the Egyptian President for the courtesy call and reiterated Zambia’s commitment to further strengthening the relations between Zambia and Egypt.

Earlier President Lungu accepted an invitation for bilateral consultations with President Peter Mutharika of Malawi. President Mutharika congraulated President Lungu on is victory and thanked him for the assistance Zambia proviced to Malawi following the floods that killed more than 120 people.

“We are grateful that despite the meagre resources Zambia was able to offer the assistance,” he said.

Later this afternoon President Lungu has accepted an invitation to meet with President Uhuru Kenyata of Kenya, United States of America Under-Secretary for African Affairs, Ms Linda Thomas Greenfeild and China Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Zhang Ming.

Tomorrow, January 31, 2015, the President will hold bilateral talks with AU Commision Chairperson Dr. Nkosasana Dhalamin Zuma; Japan Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Uto and later meet with UNHCR High Commissioner for Refugees Mr Antonio Gutares.

    • I hope the UPNS nutters don’t say HH would have invited Obama.

Do we really need Ghanians? What do they have that we envy, apart from Chinua Achebe’s ‘Things Fall Apart’

      I condemn this visit

      Thanks

    • Sata may not have done well according to your expectations, that is diplomatically, but i have great respect for the man. I mean you can’t be good in everything.

Development is incremental, this one does his part and another takes over and contributes what they can and the process continues. Definately there was some … no…a lot of good in Mr Sata.

Now we have Edgar Chagwa Lungu. He is doing well so far. Ghana is a good country to be friends with, even Nigeria, though a bit complicated but they are true Africans and their culture, as seen in their films is akin to ours, except charm..oh, Igwe. Those must be our very good allies in West Africa…as we share the Anglophone heritage.

    • IS THIS NEWS PLEASE MWEBANTU ?SO WHAT IF HE VISITS ZAMBIA .
JUST BECAUSE NO ONE WANTED TO VISIT ZAMBIA DURING KELENI TASA ATUSHE NOW YOU WANT US TO THING OSTRICH LEGS IS A PRESIDO .

NGULU SHOULD TAKE HIM TO CHAWAMA AND KANYAMA TO SEE HOW ZAMBIA HAS DEVELOPED .
PLEASE GIVE US NEWS THAT POVERTY IN ZAMBIA HAS BEEN ERADICATED NOT THIS WE DONT WANT .YOU WANT US TO START DANCING PELETI
      SHAME ON YOU AMOS .

    • There are more African millionaires in Ghana than the rest of Southern Africa combined. In fact some of the richest oil moguls from Nigeria have second residencies in Ghana.

This country formerly known as Gold Coast has developed mining schemes all owned by indigenous Ghanians. Imagine the entire Copperbelt and Lumwana owned by individual Smart people of the Zambian Enterprise not foreign multi-nationals.

Furthermore, the old mining companies are let to compete with indigenous enterprises in a free market environment. They developed the first home grown efficient mining tax system that benefits their people while keeping mining companies profitable.

Lastly, Zambia as the world’s tenth fastest growing economy needs a well-oiled tax system and can learn a thing or two from Ghana.

    • 1.3, ” Chinua Achebe is Ghanaian”
These types of “Thicko” know it all frauds”, yap the loudest, despite having very limited knowledge if any. This is the Calibre that represents our nations in most of Sub- Saharan Africa, coz majority of voters are blind illiterate, then we wonder why our countries remain “Basket Cases, 50 years after So called flag waving Independence”
      SHAME!!!

    • No one wanted to visit or have anything to do with Mao Zedong but everyone knows why China is where it is. All Sata cared about was his people, just like Mao. Sata’s rule was too short to be appreciated.

  1. Now that we have a PRESIDENT, these guys will start visiting this country. We are tired of seeing MUGABE every month. Obama is visiting in August.

    • What can you get from Ghana, only football.
It is better for Assamoa Gyan to visit Chamba Lungu, that will be more popular than some lowest ever Ghanian president vs the lowest ever Zambian president.

    • Mushota. Chenua Achebe was Nigeria. Ghana is a model economy in Africa. They see growth year in year out. Their economy is based on mining like ours and good SME management. Maybe we can learn something from that.

    • @Chimbwi, why you think Ghana is better than Lusaka, you are the Zambians they are calling idyots. Ghana is as useless as Nigeria, and I don’t blame Mushota of the mix-up.
Why didn’t think of Botswana or Namibia.

  2. Now that the accient serpent and tyrant is dead foreign heads of states have started visiting. Good for the country.

  3. Ni Zi. Lungu-man throw one stone and bring about the bad feelings to all wicked men. Stone one!

  4. @Nostradamus That’s precisely Amos Chanda’s job description. Mr Chanda is the voice of HE EL therefore his job is to write and inform. Keep the press releases coming Mr Chanda, keep us informed so that the naysayers and the haters have no room for getting creative with their stories. Well done and keep it up. We need to widen the margin in 2016.

  5. This is why despite all the evil moves by Guy Scott and the cartel to prevent Lung from taking office, God said no.

Lungu is the man of the people. Look at how many people are willing to meet him. How many people are willing to come to Zambia.

I am going to Marry Lungu’s daughter right away.

  6. Thank God our presidential isolation is over now that we have a level headed president.

Welcome to Zed president John Dramani Mahama.

  7. Lungu seems to be enjoying the limelight and he is getting better every day that passes. Am UPND but i think so far he has done a very good job and i hope he keeps up the momentum. Even people that didn’t vote for him are slowly getting on board. This is good for Zambia.

  8. ***********BREAKING NEWS*************

2020vision reporting..expect some news from UPND in the next few days on the issue of whom they will be adopting for their presidential candidate for 2016…
…..they get to decide whether to continue as an undemocratic party and adopt HH again…
or to sack the chap as a good example of democracy and let someone else like Mutati take over….

    ….watch this space abena Zed…

    BA ZAMBIA WE LOVE YOU
