Media institute of Southern Africa (MISA) says it is irresponsible for the media to exaggerate President Edgar Lungu’s illness.

MISA Zambia chairperson Hellen Mwale says the levels of unprofessionalism being exhibited in some section of the media with regards President Lungu’s health is worrying as it has the potential to mislead the nation.

Ms. Mwale has wondered why some sections of the media have been particularly swift at reporting that the President collapsed during the commemoration of the international women’s day at heroes stadium.

She says her organization is of the view it is important for the media to be factual and accurate in their reporting as they are the first to give Zambians first hand information

  1. Media backed up the account of the president fainting with pictures. lying would have been what was terrible and mocking the public

    Go away MISA

    Thanks

    • News reporting must be swift. The President was taken ill at a public event live on television. What did you expect the media to do. All that was reported was backed by State House PR updates. So what is the fuss all about MISA?

    • Before thd elections we told the nega nega family that the under five will lose. And we say it again, No mater what fortune tellers from nigeria say, U5 will never rule zambia.

This is a matter of demography and democracy and not nigerian dream.

    • @mushota, you are a big FOOL and EVIL writing errant rubbish and consistently propagating disrespect for President Lungu

    • Mushota, get a job! You cannot spend all your waking hours on LT posting gibberish, even an insane person would put the Republic over political affiliations.

MISA is right and err… and no, its not about the Rainbow Party. If you are still smarting over the PF win, have a cookie and watch cbeebees – you will feel better. I promise.

  2. Please check how BBC, CNN, Reuters and Aljazerra have reported the collapse of EL. MISA and specifically Hellen Kabwe , please be objective or risk becoming irrelevantt

    • From traibo party to nega nega family. It is a mistaken view that hate propaganda will make us prefer hh or winta. Did ajazzera report CHAGWA AGWA. Tell HH the more we read zwd propaganda tht more we hate the UNDER 5 nega negan

  3. This MISA is sinking so low. How did MISA settle for this cheap lady? I am forced to conclude that this is the caliber of the entire media professionals in Zambia. Maybe she was just carried away by her wako ni wako syndrome.

  4. Id.io.t Hellen Mwale! Is she doing wako ni wako again? MISA Zambia, is your Hellen Mwale the best person to lead you? What is the ignorant woman pontificating in the current media savvy environment?
We dont want such an A.r.sewhore hiding the truth from us – is MISA really still relevant? Isnt the mo.ng.rel ashamed of herself?

  5. The President got sick but he did not collapse. That is the issue. We all watched on live video there was no collapsing and hitting his head. That is blatant lie that MISA is talking about

    • Collapsing to an extent that he hit is head as shown in some pictures that he even acquired a bump. Imagine

    • So tell us why was he admitted in Hospital. If it didnt happen in public view you would be saying he has gone on work holiday in South Africa. Cheap politics. Gone are the days of depending on ZNBC for the pictures and videos. Mwanya, there is no more hiding. To make things worse he knows that he has been carrying a disease for over 30 years, but he was arrogant in denying the fact. Its likely this is not the first time he had collapsed. Its not wrong to be sick, but dont hide the fact because people to save your life wont know what to do or whats happening. He was resuscitated! Choke if you like but thats the truth.

  6. Whatever factual quick reporting, a headline like CHAGWA AGWA is definitely below the belt and unethical. I wont even touch ZWD. The thing is that press freedom also goes with press responsibility. Inflammatory sensationalism is dangerous, and showing deliberate disrespect to authority sets a precedent to the youth and other citizens, and I might not be wrong to assume that this is the intended goal of some media houses. We like who we like, and we dislike who we dislike, but even as we strive to be factual at least let us not be malicious, rude, or cheeky. Infact I think that MISA could have said more on this, but its a good start for media institutions to remind each other about ethical reporting.

    • But the truth is that Chagwa ana gwa. So the truth came out. I hate it if the media does not report the truth and keeps giving lies! Keep up media. You were for once professional!

    • You HATE it when…??? So you’re a hater. So, you came out of your mother’s v.agin.a, that is a truth, but how would you like it said like just because its the truth? Even if you hate someone at least just be ethical. You know yourself so I wont preach to you. Please dont be malicious. Mailo chili pali iwe.

    • @Monkey Banana, who cares if you wont read ZWD? We have all read it and got our satisfaction. Escort Edgar to SA. These medical tourism holidays have just started and will continue until a casket is brought home to the mourning audience. Cabinet has issued an order to start preparing the burial site for Edgar.

  7. Ka Hellen Mwale, this is just a political mileage, just seeking a ministerial post..you well know that your comment is rubbish.

  8. I am wondering what makes the young woman so surprised? doesnt she know that News has to be sensetional for people to go for it, other wise this lady may not work for private media house. This is what the majority of people want, we need news that can captivate you right there and then. If you are a learner in new writing , Then visit private media houses. You do not need to be mexciful when it comes to writing captivating news. WHAT she is doing is BABY CRY, no room for such in the media world.

  9. I suppose Mushota doesn’t get sik. and honestly without shame how do you write Chagwa AGWA cerebrating someones’s sickness. Do we lose ourselves when writing or who do we want to impress. Thank God people of Zambia nolonger delight in someone’s illness or death arising from politics. Mulibe na nsoni imwe banthu sure. Arnt you ashamed now that you hear everyone including vocal political parties having change of heart over illness? Can this devlish behavior be discarded please.

    Long live the Republican President.

  10. Blame Lungu’s parents for giving him a pathetic name like Chagwa. Chagwa Agwa is a once in a lifetime headline that the Post could not resist. I will keep my copy of the Post of 9 March as a collectible. Pure classic!

  11. Its irresponsible and selfish for President Lazy to lie about his health…he knew about his condition but chose to go for the job…Zambia needs a fit and healthy individual after the time wasted on oldman Sata.

  12. God is in control. The more some people write absurd, the more blessings they pour on President Lungu. He is the right man for plot one as at now and he is likely to continue up to 2021 by God’s grace. We are praying for him to recover soon. Sickness is sickness no kwarms about it. All shall be well as God is the healer. Only those without God in their hearts will pour scorn at sickness. We scorned Levy, we scorned Chiluba, we scorned Sata, we scorned RB , WE SCORNED GEORGE KUNDA NOW WE are scorning ec Lungu. Are we specializing in this? Cant we be civilized and moderate in our conduct towards the sick?Sata told George Kunda Mr. Red lips , What happened? such politiquing is never heard in developed countries even where some Presidents have been in coma for over three years.

  13. For all of you who are condemning Hellen, objectivity is the first rule of Journalism and ‘Chagwa Agwa’ shows a clear bias by the Post towards the subject who in this case also happens to be the Republican President, His Excellency President Edgar Lungu. SC.

I am ashamed to be a Zambian this morning, surely, should we put our political beliefs before our love of country? What are the consequences of a headline like that on Zambia’s economy? If Obama falls, you will see how the US media would spin the story to protect the ‘Republic’ but alas, a faction of supposed media institutions that have been bought by special interests have no agenda except to self serve… even at the expense of the Republic of Zambia. What a travesty!

    • @Former UPND supporter, if you are ashamed then go and commit suicide. That headline CHAGWA AGWA was the best in the history of Zambian journalism. The Post sales went up by more than 180 percent. Your chagwa now needs some diapers.

  14. he Problem is NOT Mmembe but Presidents who have allowed Mmembe to continue writing as he pleases. Mmembe has literally insulted all Presidents except his uncles Arther and Sikota Wina. Arthur Wina was a serial drunkered and died of alcoholism. He cannot write about this instead he refers us to Milton Obote. This is not press freedom but hatred and destruction of innocent Zambians perceived to have stood and seen as standing in his way to usurp power. Mmembe’s sole aim is to get power by all means. RB was warned. He went to sleep in the name of nursing democracy. He knows better what he is going through. EL cannot pretend that he was not warned but equally has gone to sleep while Mmembe is getting stronger. For me its presidents who are STUPID. This paper needs to be shut. Finish.

  15. Sycophancy is what is wrong. As someone has already put it the idea is to captivate the audience. What is your reaction when you see such a headline. For me that’s the measure of your intellect.

  16. Mmembe’s farts will soon be no more. Mutembo wont be able to cover his farting . Very soon we will have a new DPP in place , and Mmembe’s day of Reckoning will come. The late Sata could have been President in 2006 if it had not been for Mmembe. Mmembe thinks he is untouchable, but looking at the current situation his days are numbered. His influence has dwindled , and very soon the people he has destroyed will be on him- And so will be the Law.
The UPND as usual lives in a different Time Zone. They cannot read the signs. In their blind opportunism they are failing to see the writing on the wall and can support the venom Mmembe has for ECL.
Mmembe is finished. And he knows it. Even Wynter Kabimba knows that no amount of spinning by Mmembe will make the Rainbow Party popular

  17. FACT
The Problem is NOT Mmembe but Presidents who have allowed Mmembe to continue writing as he pleases. Mmembe has literally insulted all Presidents except his uncles Arther and Sikota Wina. Arthur Wina was a serial drunkered and died of alcoholism. He cannot write about this instead he refers us to Milton Obote. 18. These MISA blokes would have a point if the Zambian government did not have a history of lying to the country about the president’s health.
