With less than one week to go until the parliamentary by-elections in Chawama, Senga Hill and Masaiti constituencies the UPND is calling for a peaceful and responsible last week of campaigns that focuses on issues of importance to constituents and responds to the needs of the people.

As UPND we are confident following the January 2015 presidential by-election that showed a massive swing in support towards the UPND and an increase in our votes in every Province, despite the overall decline in turnout.

While we understand that voters maybe tired of voting so often and that they have been let down by politicians and representatives in the past we encourage them to turnout in large numbers on Tuesday 14 April to exercise their democratic right.

By voting for change they have the power to send a clear message to the PF Government that their current performance is not good enough. Zambia can and will do better.

As UPND we are fully committed to participating in these by-elections alongside our friends and colleagues. However our position is that there have been too many by-elections under the PF.

We have already had 26 parliamentary by-elections since the September 2011 elections and just last month Deputy Minister of the Vice President’s Office Stephen Kampyongo confessed that government spending on by-elections under the PF has totalled more than 200 million Kwacha.

This money represents much needed revenues that could be channeled into important projects to improve Zambia’s education and healthcare sectors. We have to ask ourselves if so many by-elections have been needed what can we do to increase the credibility of the electoral process so that these are reduced.

An important part of this will be appointing a credible new Chairperson of the ECZ who is well respected by a cross section of Zambians, as well as fast-tracking the process to put the new constitution in place.

  1. When this speaks, I just shut up to get his wisdom. This is the man we need to liberate Zambians out of poverty and irrationality. Of course individual hardwork is required but he will complement our efforts.

    • Let him just continue meeting his fellow free Masons in United Kingdom and elsewhere. UPND has no chance in these coming elections its edgar Lungu chabe. As for HH under five just wait for the humble pie.

    • That’s why I say Just call yourself Man Zambia, Woman Zambia or better still Mwa Zambia! If truely you are Kenyan why blog on Zambian sites non-stop. I know its a global village and websites are accessable anywhere but I wonder your particular interest in Zambian politics if truely you are Kenyan. You never miss any topic. You seem to know Zambia better than Zambians and your so called own country, Kenya. I am scared for our own sovereign state security if a foreign knows too much about our issues and geography.

Lady Zambia? We are your fellow citizens, Greetings!

  2. Out of these 3 by elections, tribal HH’s UPND may only get 1(Masaiti) or zero,so what voting for change is Hakaivotela Heka talking about?I KEEP ON SAYING THAT ONLY OPPOSITION PARTIES CAN DREAM ABOUT CHANGE TO SECURE JOBS FOR THEMSELVES AND NOT US MAJORITY VOTERS.YOU CANT REMOVE PF FROM OFFICE JUST AFTER 1 TERM WHEN THEY’VE REALLY DONE WELL IN TERMS OF ROADS AND OTHER PROJECTS!!!next week PF will 100% win in chawama and Senga Hill!!PF may so get the Masaiti seat!!SO KEEP ON DREAMING TRIBAL HH!!!

  3. This is a balanced message to voters and political competitors coming from an opposition leader. Any level headed human being who believes in a multi-party democracy should not be offended by this statement. Of course as an opposition leader hh added a statement on why voters should vote for his party. Who would enjoy a soccer match of one team? It would not make sense. You need two opposing teams to enjoy a soccer match. Of course people like @eddy are an exception to this rule. For him the opposing team must be insulted and dehumanised for reasons only known to persons like him. Fortunately, HE, ECL are wiser and know what democracy is all about. People like @eddy are an embarrassment to all democracy enthusiasts.

  4. I meant “HE, ECL is wiser”.

So for @eddy, if PF wins majority seats opposition parties should give up and let Zambia go back to the dungeons of one-party state?? Dreaming is part and parcel of a living organism. Dreams and high hopes in periods of gloom spur human beings to emerge victorious and prosperous. Just look at Germany after the total destruction during the 2 world wars!! Today, Germany is the biggest and most solid economy in the European union. The same has applied in politics elsewhere and here at home. Anyway I do not know the intellectual calibre of @eddy but nevertheless other bloggers will see my point. This democracy is good for PF as well. Without multiparty democracy Zambia would still have been under UNIP and probably under KK or one of his children.

  5. He can stand at whatever podium in the world He will never rule ZAMBIA!!! Until he changes his attitude towards the people he wants to rule……So help him God.

  6. People of zambia when you say hh will never rule zambia do you mean you’ll continue winning clean or its through stealing like what happened in january? If its through stealing then you should ask yourselves for how long are u going to do it coz hh & zambians have already given you last worning that should you repeat again then blood shed is here to flow….

    • You are just as deluded as HH senior. You obviously have your own agenda and pay no attention to facts.

Get over it you lost! And you will lose again and again and again until you get it through your thick heads that mudslinging does not qualify as a campaign message.

  7. People of Zambia…Never say Never!

Even when SATA was alive and in opposition a cluster of people were laughing at him and others jeering at him. While others went to his rallies just to laugh at the jokes he was cracking and that earned him the name Ukwa.

For now, you may say that HH will never rule this country, don’t be shocked Zambians can change and they can change for good and give HH a thunderous VOTE never seen in this country.

God is great. God bless Zambia.

  8. This is test for HH and UPND.
If all the 3 seats go to PF just know that 2016 will be a disaster for HH. But if they win Masaiti where PF voters are reported divided, it will give HH a boost in Kopala.
HH advise your Zambia watch dog to stop writing rubbish about the health of the President.
This is what will make EL to get landslide in 2016.
Mind you HH is not liked by majority of Zambians. So thois online newspaper is just making things worse for HH

  9. Djr I don’t know if you rily use your head to think *****. What z the difference btwn 790,000 votes HH got and the 815,000?and u claim most zambians hate hh. Think u are mad, pliz stop exposing your foolishness.

  10. Eddy stop being petty if u re normal dear!!!! Are you telling me the more than 790,000 Who voted for hh come from one tribe since you bliev in tribe.I wonder if u don’t hav alot of undone business with the ministry of education. Call yourself tribal and leave hh who has neva been tribal.

  11. The message is good counsel to all zambians and also timely warning to the authorities that be to put ECZ in order because their conduct is fertile ground to bring anarchy let alone bloodshed.People know they have been cheated for too long but in 2016 let there be transparency.Nigeria with voters more than 26million in the last election had their results known in very few days compared with zambia having about 2million voters in the january 2016 presidential elections.what a shame because ecz was saying bad weather the choppers are delayed etc, etc.Last warning we are not children and yet the results were being cooked, try and cook them this time and you will have yourselves to blame .Your leaders will be candidates at the Hague court facing crimes against humanity.
