Zesco stay second, Power sneak into 3rd place

Champions Zesco United on Wednesday showed their resolve to defend the FAZ Super Division title when they joined Zanaco at the top of the table.

Zesco beat Nakambala Leopards 2-1 away in Mazabuka in a midweek Week 3 rescheduled match to move to 17 points after seven games.

However, Zanaco top the table due to a better goal difference even though both teams are on 17 points.

Goals from winger Winston Kalengo and striker Jackson Mwanza aided the Ndola club to their third straight away win.

Kalengo broke the deadlock in the 40th minute before Mwanza doubled the lead after 46 minutes while Nakambala’s Junior Zulu reduced the score-line to 2-1 on 75 minutes.

The defeat left Nakambala stuck at the bottom of the table with three points from seven games.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Power Dynamos ended a three-match winless drought after beating Green Buffaloes 2-1 at Woodlands Stadium in another delayed midweek game.

The win moved Power from fifth into third place on the table with 13 points after seven games.

Wedson Nyirenda’s Buffaloes led just after three minutes with Diamond Chikwekwe opening the scores in the 3rd minute before defender Govenda Simwala equalised from the penalty spot thanks to referee Stanley Hachiwa’s 9th minute verdict.

The game was seemingly heading for a 1-1 draw before defender Christopher Munthali headed in the winner 10 minutes from time.

This is a huge relief to coach Tenant Chiluba and his players who had picked just a point from their last three games prior to the match against Buffaloes.
