THE Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution (SACCORD) has described the 100 days of President Edgar Lungu’s style of governance as progressive but with numerous challenges.

And SACCORD has called on President Lungu to expedite the constitutional making process and tackle poverty levels especially in rural areas.

SACCORD executive director Boniface Cheembe said one area that President Lungu has changed is the improved sense of communication.

Mr Cheembe cited the briefs after cabinet meetings and the openness regarding President Lungu’s recent medical examination as progressive way governance.

“The way President Lungu allowed transparency regarding his recent medical examinations both in Zambia and when he went to South Africa is encouraging. This is a new trend in the governance of our country, it has never happened before,” Mr Cheembe said.

Mr Cheembe said looking back at President Lungu’s inaugural speech, his commitment to striking a balance between local and foreign investment seems to be on track.

“Look at his inaugural speech on various issues like investment and international relations, President Lungu in his three months of office has engaged very well with fellow leaders in the region, a thing that is beneficial to the Zambian people,” Mr Cheembe said.

However, Mr Cheembe said the levels of poverty and the speed at which the constitutional-making process is going are worrying.

“Poverty and unemployment are reaching alarming levels that need serious attention from Government and its co-operating partners,” Mr Cheembe said.

  1. Yes we are all proud to have edgar lungu,as our president.he is the best we have ever had, despite the economic hardship,he is doin a commendable job

    • Keep up the good job Ed, Satana almost divided us with his tribalism and in 100 days you have managed to bring the country together.

I supported HH during the elections but, he does not seem to have political maturity to rule this Country. While Satana and Kabimba were busy going after the opposition , you are embracing everyone. Its shows you grew up pa CB.

  2. Yes Edgar is on course. The country is now more united than under Sata. Only the cartel and perpetual loser s can’t appreciate because they are full of hate. If he continues this way, 2016 will be walk over for him. Come next year, there will be no MMD. Even UPND will be very weak to win any vote, except in Southern Province where people vote purely on tribe lines.
For now Lunga should concentrate on developing Zambia. Let those politicking continue at their own peril.

  3. What did you expect him to hide when he had a big fall in full view of the public and press cameras? Do give us stupid reports.

  4. THIS IS A VERY EMPTY ARTICLE IT ONLY POINTS OUT THE SUCCESSES AND POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT. BUT, AS ANY STUP!D COMMENT DOES NOT OFFER OR SUGGEST SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS. I MEAN, HOW TO TACKLE THE ISSUES OF UNEMPLOYMENT AND POVERTY. AS SUCH IT IS JUST A SHEER WASTE OF SPACE.

  5. Anything positive said about Edgar eats at UPND cadres. But they just have to swallow the facts, they do not have a choice do they, seeing that we can all see the facts everywhere? Sorry UPND cadres, do yourselves a service and talk sense for your own giid. There are many things that you can engage in for your political survival rather than continue acting ostrich!

  6. Well said, S ACCORD, there is tremendous improvement in terms of the governance of the country. Albeit, as you have rightly indicated more action is required:

    1. Expedite constitutional reform

    2. Pay more attention to the challenge of unemployment – more pragmatic strategies required to deal with unemployment

    3. Farming inputs delivery must be improved, ensure farmers are paid promptly and ensure diversification of agriculture – livestock, horticulture products, fishing and vegetable farming

    4. Find lasting solution to mining taxation in Zambia so that mines can contribute a fair share of their revenues to national confers. Reach an equilibrium situation which will guarantee consistency and predictability in policy

Then ECL is assured of 2016! All the best!

  7. How have things changed when government can procure $192m loan and deliberately refuse to inform its citizens? How can a loan compromise the security of the nation? What is wrong to tell a nation that we have gotten a loan to improve security? Who doesn’t want to live in a secure country? Why should our security be dependent on loans?
I now see that there is tendency by every Jim and Jack to blame Sata even when they sang praise songs when he was alive. What has Edgar done better than Sata other than bringing RB and his bunch of crooks to PF?

  8. SACCORD talked about the positives and negatives. I think Lusaka Times chose to give the positives more space and hide the negatives in 2 paragraphs. I believe SACCORD said more than 2 paragraphs on the negatives. And these 2 negatives outweigh the positives in terms of uplifting lives of Zambians.

  9. PROGRESSIVE?! KEKEKEKE IF WHAT WE SEE IN THIS GOVERNMENT IS ACCEPTABLE THEN ZAMBIA HAS THE LOWEST STANDARDS OF WHAT IS GOOD GOVERNANCE. OUR ECONOMY CONTINUES TO PLUMMET. HEALTH CARE IS APPALLING. CIVIL SERVANTS STRUGGLING. EDUCATION IS A JOKE AND AGRICULTURE NOW AN ACTIVITY OF THE PASSED. ATI PROGRESSIVE. KEKEKEKEKE……
