Justice Minister, Ngosa Simbyakula today met members of the Grand Coalition on the campaign for a people driven constitution.

Dr. Simbyakula met the members of the coalition led by chairperson, Leonard Chiti in Lusaka.

The Justice Minister has told ZNBC news in Lusaka today that the meeting was cordial.

Dr. Simbyakula says government will continue engaging the grand coalition and various stakeholders on the constitution making process.

Grand Coalition for a people driven constitution has charged that Zambians have lost confidence in the ability of government to enact a good constitution.

The Coalition has since challenged government to come clean on the constitution making process in view of this lost confidence by the Zambian people. Grand Coalition Chairperson Father Leonard Chiti has told a media briefing in Lusaka this morning that the Coalition maintains its rejection of government’s decision to enact the constitution in piecemeal through Parliament.

Fr Chiti says it is amazing how government has thrown away its own created draft roadmap in which it stated that it will make consultations with stakeholders on the constitution making process.

  1. The Government has engaged this and they have engaged that, enough talk from them now, action on enacting the people driven constitution as promised is now.

    • Ngosa Simbyakula is a chancer. The man has no spine. He is where he is because of Sata. Both him and Lungu were Ministers at Ministry of Home Affairs. They both lamentably failed to take legislation to parliament to repeal the archaic and colonial Public Order Act. It is extremely naive if not foolish to expect either of them can preside over a complex issue as enactment of a people driven constitution

  2. Well done. Keep on truck with no hidden agendas. Well begun is half done. We must come to a consencus, after all.

  3. The Draft Constitution is better than the current Constitution which was written to protect the interests of our colonial masters-whites. Political parties in previous and current governments have used and decided to keep the current Constitution to protect their selfish interests as our minority masters did. Yes, we still have minority whites who are black. The Barotseland Agreement 1964 and retention of Death Penalty Articles identified by the National Constitution on campaign for a People Driven Constitution are the only contentious clauses. Therefore the Parliament should in act all Articles save the 2 contentious clauses to referendum because constitution making process was people driven through the district & provincial consultative process collected citizen’s input into the Draft.

    • @Michael Bwalya, where were you when Chiluba your relative was coming up with the current constitution with the support of VJ, Sata, HH, Mazoka and all the other politicians who are opposing the current constitution? I was a young boy then by I remember very well that the only politicians who were opposed to this current constitution were the late Dean Mung’omba, KK. All these who are making noise now were in support when Chiluba and the MMD were drafting this to bar KK and favor Chiluba/MMD. The current constitution is not the colonial one. FYI, the colonial one had 50%+1 clause in it
