Police in Lusaka this morning interrogated UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema on allegations of conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace but failed to press any charges against him.
A calm looking Mr Hichilema arrived at 10:00 Hours was interrogated for close to two hours but police failed to proceed with the arrest of the UPND leader.
Mr Hichilema was questioned for his recent tours of Lusaka townships where he interacted with local people and thanked them for voting for the UPND.

After today’s questioning, the parties have however agreed that Mr Hichilema will notify the police whenever he wants to undertake campaign activities in line with the Public Order Act.
Meanwhile, hundreds of UPND cadres and senior party officials converged at Kabwata Police to offer solidarity to Mr Hichilema. Some skirmishes between the police and the cadres broke out as police tried to maintain order.

Burma Road on which Kabwata Police Station is located was blocked by heavy traffic after Mr Hichilema left the interrogation room and made his way to the party secretariat.

  1. This is publicity for HH

They are keeping his name floating-he is campaigning as I see from those picture?

    Thanks
    Bb2014

    • Seriously, the PF Police Force must account for the wastage of man hours. The brought battalions of Police Officers just to harass an innocent man in the name of HH. Surely, is this how tax payers money will be used? We need to kick out this lot and bring back professionalism to the way we do everything in this country

    • Why would one need a permit to go into a market? I thought you only need a permit when conducting a rally?

This feels like colonial time when we were required to have passess on us?

    • These are ancient politics – if we accept plural politics, campaigning should be the daily business of every party, I don’t understand this public order nonsense! Soliciting votes is the job of every political party and they should do it EVERYDAY of their existence and WITHOUT anyone’s permission! Why should this worry the ruling party when they’ve an even BETTER chance of doing the same?

    • These are populist politics by Hakainde. As a senior opposition politician he knows that by mingling anyhow with people without state security he exposes himself to attack by overzealous party cadres, including is own cadres. He is creating this situation so that he can cry murder and claim to the rest of the world that it was state sponsored because the police (that he did not inform) failed o protect him. It is good that they have agreed to keep each other informed.

    • Ba Observer naimwe, what do you think politics is all about?? HH is not running a charity, he is running a political party and if you do not understand that this is what politics is, I’d suggest to limit your comments to subjects like fish farming or something.

  2. How can HH win 2016elections when he lost without an opponent in the last election.
It’s the same as he contested unopposed and then lost.
What more with the mighty ELC in full throttle how his he going to fair. All Upnd sympathizers should seriously consider this. I rest my case.

    • Ba HH kuwayawayafye. I also made the same observation, in January Hichilema lost to a mere Minister even after campaigning for close to a year, what will make him defeat ECL now that he is a State president? I am waiting for his new strategy other wise his chances look dim. The man is politically impotent.

    • Ba Spongy, ever since I saw your comment akale supporting the killing of suspected witches, I consider you to be one dull dunderhead and you prove this all the time with your shallow posts. Notupuba tunobe utule ku supporta.

  3. Why do People in Power behavior like this. Honestly, this country is cursed. …….No development……….why can people sit and think of innovations of improving the welfare of its people. Just some few minutes ago……I have been thinking of how the GRZ can create employement for over 3,000 youths on the streets. Enacted laws should be respected………….for instance the issue of withholding tax on building alone can creat more than 2,000 jobs by ensuring there is compliance from Landlords. Please our Ministers, Counicillors think and move Zambia forward.

    • Because there is no real love for country. The thing is they get in to amass wealth then ‘hopefully’ leave for others to join the cycle. See, nothing is ever accounted for and nobody is held responsible for any of the ills we go through.

    • I don’t see how any one in a normal frame of mind would vote your comment down. What you have said should be the cry of every Zambian, both young and old!

  4. Look who’s foolish now between HH and Lungu. Is this the way to misuse public resources and security personal in the country. PF cadres were busy beating bus drivers in town and they go unpunished yet you waste time on HH. Anyway thanks Lungu for good free publicity.

    • There is no publicity being created by the police. Hichilema is just an under 5. What if fracas had broken down and HH is injured who was going to be blamed? The police is just in order.

    • @Lwengelele,
“what if fracas broke out and HH got injured.”
Are you out of your freaking mind? Don’t you recall the incident in Mongu when HH’s team was attacked and one guy was knocked unconscious? Who was blamed, the police?
      What a waste of matebela?

  5. HH is the man at the moment who can help Zambians. Fuel prices, withholding tax, hunger, unemployment, etc. are fruits of a failed nation. Why would I pay withholding tax if i used my retirement package by which PAYE was deducted and the change given to me, I bought materials to build that house where VAT was deducted and now i have not even returned the money i spent I should pay another tax. The looser here is the ordinary citizen who rents because landlords cannot reduce their income by paying that tax. they would rather increase by that percentage. Its indeed a kolopa.com on poor citizens to kolopa even the least penny they have.

    • Very shallow posting indeed! It is true indeed you from the kraal. So whats your point here? Kicks of panting cow about to die.

Everyone needs to pay tax iwe mumbwe, do we care where you got the money to build that kama rubbish house of yours, just pay tax for instead of hallucinating.

  6. That unstrategic campaign under the guise charity has brought this chap under unnecessary police scrutiny.using poor people to gain political mileage is an immoral act that deserves condemnation in the strongest terms possible.and often you see his supporters defending his every action, blinded like sheep heading to to their slaughter.

    • @dis network
Surely these UPND supporters lacks priorities. Don’t you know that your man has started campaigning and he will be using you all the way. Its a long way to go so go back and work so that you can feed your families. Otherwise you will tire when the race has just began.

  7. People must realise that it wont be long before the few majority realise that there is need for proper accountable government to be in place. One thing I dislike about LUNGU’s way of campaigns is being too personal on the opposition like UPND. LUNGU uses very abusive language on HH whenever he is campaigning. In other words he literally insults HH while HH never does that on him. The way he puts the word KACHEMA on HH is always very provocative, no different to what Ms Mimbi said about HH a few days or weeks ago. The whole essence is always to Isolate HH as some creture from some world outside Zambia. This does hate most of us and it is only a day when GOD the creator will decide. LUNGU should have better tactics than the ones he is using right now. All beings deserve the RESPECT/DIGNITY

    • You are right. SATA too was as insulting as Lungu is. Our young ones now take it that insulting is part of Zambian life, and they do it to their parents too. We pray that one day, GOD will give us real leaders.

    • Lungu presents himself as a meek leader whom zealots sing praises of being a unifier! ECL has no love for country, is hateful, vindictive and a dictator who really at whatever cost is here to satiate his hunger holding on to the position he never dreamt! Something is amiss of Lungu’s ascension! He openly cried for it and being in a third world where tainted leaders are glorified he got the position but mind you we are a laughing stock when it comes to praising leaders we very well know can not make the grade in serious democracies which respect human dignity! That Lungu is a failed lawyer, is known fact, and the way he is being praised is as if he is a saint! Anyway it explains the Zambian intelligence………….Anyway someday God will come back to review Zambia.

  8. Indeed, a waste of our tax, a waste of productivity for those who went to the police station, a waste of productivity for those who were delayed/blocked on the road, a waste of foreign exchange used to import fuel due to congestion on Burma roads and police vehicles used for the interrogation, a waste of news space on TV and radio, a poor country image to the outside world who laugh that cooking of nshima at a market by HH has landed him in problems, increase of theft due to police spending time to think about HH instead of thinking of how to arrest the thieves having a field day in our compounds. I can go on and on.
Let us Zambians think about cost- benefit in everything we do if we are serious about developing our country. Otherwise, our people will continue suffering in a rich…

  9. He has been trying to use the late President’s (Mr Sata) tactics which he detested til his death and now thinks he can win souls? Sorry he is an imbecile and people have rejected and will continue to do so especially within his own ranks. Just by the mere blotted posters, I can conclude that he spent all the weekend mobilizing his shepherds to escort him to the police station.

As far as we are concerned, this man is a non issue in the political arena of Zambia. For us, we are busy doing what the people need, development North, South, West Central and East ’cause that what matters. Lets see who will be making another inaugural speech with the entire African leaders in attendance.

ECL, the most intelligent President I ever know. Nakalebalika tata…..

    • @ Secret Code as others before him Sata is dead and no one is hindered from borrowing any tactics, formulae or whatever one thinks is workable. Albert Einstein has been dead much longer than your Sata yet you still use his theory of relativity.

For me HH seems an issue to those in power and those of you who want to make believe he is not for he has not even got into corridors of government apart that of his party and you want to scrutinize his every move! I do not see why he should attract interest of his whereabouts if the police can deploy resources to follow him as if he is not a citizen to move freely wherever he likes within the boundaries of his motherland.

Seems as far as you are concerned HH is most likely to upset your “comfort zone.”

  10. It is not unusual for police to release a suspect if there isn’t sufficient evidence. It doesn’t make one hero simple. He can even be rearrested should more evidence be available. Saying HH is a hero is a falacy

  11. @secret code: “He has been trying to use the late President’s (Mr Sata) tactics…”. How can you say HH is using Sata’s tactics when every politician meets people? Did you not see Nawakwi in a maize/groundnut field with farmers in eastern province? What about H.E. E.C. Lungu visiting a market in northwestern province on Saturday or Friday last week? H.E. E.C. Lungu also visited a funeral home. Don’t you see that this is normal life as we all do? I think you are not happy because you thought HH does not know how to cook nshima or that he is too proud to cook nshima at a market, plane timber, lift cartons of drinks and mealie meal etc. Secret code, learn to stop deceiving people but tell the truth. This how you build a country and nation.

  12. The mines managed to reduce the proposed tax to 9%. Landlords/tenants should also fight for the reduction of WHTax to 3%. Stop attending pf rallies, threaten not to ever vote for pf,they will reduce.

  13. Ba Secrete Code: Kwena mwapolomya yeee!! Nishiki yoonse iyi? Fishi mulile? Mulofwa ichimututa pang’anda yakwa HH? Lalenifye muchibusu pakuti mupeme bwino. Iyi kwena ni Pama Fi 🙂

  14. I think President Sangoma Muhammad Lungu is now running mad.
How dare u waste working hours like that and expect to win elections next year?

HH we love u my dear and may God continue being with you. Edgar Lungu, may the devil be with you, you cursed man. may u die next year you chibuku man.

  15. manje ba zed ninshi tibwelela ku one party participatory democracy..am cin most politicians are after eatin basi..no love for the people thats why they kip jumpin from one party to another.especialy the rulin so that they are employed or eat with them.please ba politician yangananiko pa mabvuto yamu chalo osati ndalama chabe…god wil punish u.elo zambians remember we fought for multipartism lets hold on to it..sitifuna bak to UNIP yayi…we need opposition for checks and balances..otherwise tizalila..viva multiparty democracy..

  16. HH IS GOT NO STRATEGY HE IS LIKE A BABY WHO STARTS A FIGHT WHICH HE KNOWS HE CAN NOT WIN AND WHEN HE IS BEATEN HE EXPECTS PEOPLE TO FEEL PITY FOR HIM AND BLAME THOSE THAT CLOBBERED HIM. SHAME!!!

HH WANTS CHEAP POPULARITY HE HAS RUN OUT OF IDEAS AND HE THINKS BY MIXING WITH KACHASU DRUNKARDS HE WILL WIN THE 2016 ELECTIONS.

LOOK AT KAPITA HE REALIZED THAT AS LONG HH WAS THE CAPTAIN OF THE SHIP IT WILL DEFINITELY SINK AND QUICKLY LEFT HIM AFTER 17 SOLID YEARS. I HOPE GARRY NKOMBO WILL DO THE SAME ITS NOT LATE. WHY DROWN IF YOU KNOW HOW TO SWIM UNLESS THERE IS REALLY SOMETHING WRONG IN YOUR UPSTAIRS.
