Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has called on politicians not to politicize the frequent power outage the country is experiencing.

Mr. Kambwili said the increase in load shedding is as a result of low water levels at Kariba North bank and not a making of government.

He said as a result of low rainfall that the country received in the just ended rain season there will be a reduction of power generation by 200 Megawatts from the Kariba North bank.

Mr Kambwili said the problem is not only peculiar to Zambia but the entire Southern African region and called on Zambians not to put the blame on ZESCO.

He was speaking to journalists in Solwezi today shortly after touring the 24.9 million dollars fuel depot under construction.

Mr Kambwili said if ZESCO continues to generate at the same capacity the rivers will dry up and the equipment will blow off plunging the whole country into darkness.

And Energy Deputy Minister Charles Zulu said government is working on establishing solar plants across the country to reduce dependency on hydro power.

Mr Zulu said despite receiving much sunlight very little has been done to develop renewable energy.

Mr Kambwili is in Northwestern province on a familiarization tour of media houses.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili has given a week one ultimatum to Astor Investments limited the contractor engaged to construct the North-western province studios to move on site or risk having the contract terminated.

Mr. Kambwili said if the contractor does not mobilize by next week the contract will be given to another who is ready to undertake the works.

He said it is unacceptable that five months after the foundation stone was laid nothing is happening on the ground.

Mr. Kambwili said he will take no excuse for delay in the completion of the provincial studios.

He was speaking in Solwezi today when he paid a courtesy call on Acting Solwezi District Commissioner Chipawa Chipawa.

And Mr. Kambwili has directed all District Agriculture Coordinators (DACOs) in the province to ensure that all farming inputs are delivered to farmers on time.

Mr. Kambwili said government will not take kindly delay in delivering inputs this year following the early flagging off of input distribution.

And Mr Chipawa said the good policies have opened up media but that guidance is needed on how media houses conduct their business.

    • With such kind of politicians around can a country develop honestly? His tone and message leaves much to be desired.

    • We demand a DNA test, this guy looks like a silverback gorilla from some forest in the Congo forest. We risk being labelled land of gorillas!!

    • Going by Kambwili’s facial expression, speaking as government spokesperson must be more painful than labour pains!

    • They say its only a baboon that can easily know a fellow comrade baboon. U who are calling him baboon must send pics to us for analysis. He might even be a handsome baboon than all of u

And y protract the debate as to weather he is ugly or not. He has been clear that he has an ugly face but a good heart. But u don’t listen u pipo

    • Edgar Lungu is really being unfair to us.Out of all the cadres he has is this the only one who can be Government spokesman? And talking about his complaint is this not the same person who only last month was on “Let The People Talk” claiming that since the PF came into power load shedding had reduced? We know PF is full of dunder heads but you cant make this Monkey the face of the party.May be we should not complain but wait for 2016 and get rid of both Edgar and his monkey.

  1. Mr. Chishimba ” ultimatum, warning, direction, caution, fuming, challenged, promises, daring” Kambwili

My two brothers and 3 sisters are still waiting sign up for Zambia National Services youth fimo fimo you promised in parliament 2 years.

  2. Kambwili and Frank Bwalya are re-united! Check out Franco lounging in the background. Man without a CV. Lol!

  3. Is Kashimba Chimbwili the new ‘Sata under FTJ’ – Roving minister?

    Hey, Kashimba!

Learn diplomacy my friend. Tone down on intimidation. Imwe lyonse ma ultimatus. Why don’t you learn to highlight the good things that are being done and the people doing them and encourage everyone to emulate them? You will go far with that than threats. Lyonse lyonse a threats? Mmmmmmm!

  4. Mr. Kabwili should we blame rains for power outages? Just find other ways of improving power. We can’t blame God for Zesco’s failure, you have exported power while you asking people not politicise power outages without them there will be no checks and balances. Just advice Zesco to work hard, I am child of God I belong to the light not darkness.

    • Stop exposing your total ignorance here! Even the dullest man on earth knows that 99% of electricity in Zambia is hydro (water), but chaps like dont want to take interest and understand but only wasteful.

Last year’s rainfall was below average and this has affected not only electricity generation but also on many things that depend on nature (rain) i.e underground water levels, crop output, and many more. It appears you come from Southern Province and yet don’t even know that you have crop failure due inadequate rains.

What Mr. Kambwili is saying is that if you dont change your pattern of misusing electricity, you will continue experiencing these prolonged load shedding because ZESCO is acting according to the dictates of nature.
So SWITCH OFF AND SERVE or continue crying.

  5. Well, CK, if politicians, who are people’s trustees don’t make ZESCO accountable, people will politicise power outages. Period!

It is up to you to ensure ZESCO becomes responsible to provide quality power delivery to consumers.

  6. I know who I will get to play the role of Idi Amin in my next play. The similarity between the Kambwili and Idi is spine chilling – down to the langauage.

And before he starts threatening termination of contract he should get to the root of why the contractor is not performing. What due diligence is undertaken prior to awarding these contracts anyway? I find it unbelievable that the contractor has not mobilised on site 5 months after award. Clearly the contract is repudiated and one should not merely issue threats and warnings of termination but immediatately proceed with the process of terminating the defaulting contractors employment under contract (If there is any contract in the 1st place)

  7. Instead of blaming the Pathetic Failure of the rains, tell us what you are doing about Batoka Gorge Power Station?????

Or maybe this Kambwili of the big mouth is not aware that there is a plan to build another hydroelectric generating project????

If you and the other useless PF Ministers hurry up and start work on this before 2016 we might name it the Kambwili Disaster DAM!

  8. “And Energy Deputy Minister Charles Zulu said government is working on establishing solar plants across the country to reduce dependency on hydro power.”

This is a flat lie. Its either this so called Deputy Minister does NOT understand the huge installation costs of Solar farms, or he is just trying to impress his ignorant boss.

    • Solar energy is no alternative to large scale power production and transmission. it is very expensive. The current water we have both in the Mighty Zambezi River and the Kafue River is capable of producing at least not less than 7,000 MW in undeveloped country like Zambia today, but because of lack of advanced technological approach and will by our government. In short the government have failed to plough back the profits so that many generators could be bought. The government keep on eating the profit seeds realized by Zesco and keep on bowing the money when Zesco wants to upgrade it’s system. So lack of inadequate rain is no excuse. Therefore, one can conclude how dull many of our leaders are and do not even consult qualified citizens in various fields. Hence, un development in Zambia

  9. I think it is important especially for Kambwili to follow this sequence: “think–talk” and not the sequence he usually follows: “talk–think”.

    • To me, it seems the usual procedure is “talk-talk” and am not sure “thinking” is ever part of it.

  10. So kambwili is now Energy Minister or his mouth knows no boundaries. Is it now only that we know rains will sometimes be low? Any future plans to avert this?

  11. Mr Kambwili sir, slow down. I thought za yellow was minister of agric, why are you directing district agric officers? And surely energy minister can give us the status of zesco with regards generating shortfalls. Humble yourself mudala…just my free advice.

  12. Kambwili; will you ever let the PF accept the blame for anything? You always find some irrelevent thing to reply to criticism. Poor rainfall my foot, stop exporting electricity to our neighbouring countries and satisfy us the Zambians you empty vessel alwas yapping yapping as the late president Sata said. You are one person that is really fighting to keep his job and you will be the first person we will take to court to answer all the things that you people have done to plunder this nation and make us rate amongst the poorest.

  13. Mr kambwili, hw about a stone which was laid over one year ago to build mansa university. Do you remember when you were picking some mangoes

  14. No wonder Lungu defeated each and everyone of Satas cronies in the run up to elections. UPND if you were wise, you would work with Edgar Lungu, make you r MPS shine and deliver. With The Caliber of people Edgar Lungu had to choose from, no wonder he wanted to appoint UPND and MMD MPs to ministerial positions. Kambwili, Jean “selling all out big cats” Kapata, Kilometer sampa etc. These are not people that should be ministers, let alone District commissioners.

    Viva President Edith Nawakwi.

  15. Ati ka baby elephant ba kambwili ba chabe. This guy can work very well with charity katanga kwati ni ku police.

  16. Hey,
Kambwili careful lest you annoy the dead man’s spirits. Our dear MCS(MHSRIP) Was the first to politicise the issue when he said “there will be no power outages in PF”,
where were you then? Eating bananas…

  17. The launch for the studios was done mwansa kapeya in 2011but todate no contractor on site vakambwili more talking but no action

  18. Surely when we tell you to diversify and invest in other energies like solar and over-dependence on maize meal as we are just one drought away from disaster you think we are being negative…these empty tins in power especially the lazy bone in State House are an utterly visionless bunch only looking forward to the next election.

  19. The honorable minister, Mr. Kambwili should just close his mouth rather than telling lies, immaterial facts, being dishonesty and insincere before God and the people to defend PF government where it is doing bad. If us Citizens and the people who live in Zambia including opposition leaders can not point out the weaknesses of the government then the truth is not in us, and we are doing harm to this country, and especially to multitudes who live in poverty and have no voice. I find it hard to believe that some of my fellow bloggers who belong to PF or UPND whenever nonsense come out of the mouth of PF or UPND we approve the nonsense without thinking the implication it will exert on poverty and development. If we love this nation lets support the truth that sets us free to development.

  20. Hon. Kambwili, can you PLEASE stick to your job as Minister of Information and Chief Government Spokesperson and avail factual information on why, how and because of the ZESCO and Government failure in the provision of electricity to the Nation, instead of using language commonly associated with uneducated thugs.

After all, You and members of the Government of which you are integral part, have been elected to SERVE THE PEOPLE and NOT to INTIMIDATE and THREATEN.

  21. When you look carefully you really feel that it is true evolution took place.

  22. VISIONARY LEADERSHIP IS WHAT WE NEED IN ZAMBIA. CONSTANT POWER SUPPLY TO THE NATION REQUIRES MORE THAN ONE PLAN. DID THIS GOVERNMENT PUT MEASURES TO ENSURE CONSTANT POWER SUPPLY EVEN IF WATER LEVEL GOES DOWN? ANY BACK-UP RESERVOIR TO ENSURE CONSTANT WATER VOLUME SUPPLY TO KARIBA POWER STATION? ANY OTHER ENERGY-GENERATION SOURCES THAT ARE BEING SOUGHT? IS PF A PLANING GOVERNMENT?DO PF MINISTERS AND THEIR PSs GENERATE STRATEGIC PLANS FOR THEIR MINISTRIES, TO ENSURE A CLEAR ROAD-MAP IN THE WAY THEY DO THEIR ACTIVITIES? DOES LUNGU SUPERVISE THESE MINISTERS AND PSs? ZAMBIA NEEDS TO WAKE UP. ST OF THESE LEADERS IN GOVERNMENT DO NOT MEAN WELL FOR THE COUNTRY.
