Great East Road
PRESIDENT Lungu says road contractors who abandon projects after being given money are criminals who should be prosecuted.

Speaking when he inspected the Chipata-Mfuwe road yesterday, Mr Lungu also said Government is willing to support local contractors.

“Contractors who run away with the money are criminals and should be followed,” he said.

He said local contractors who do shoddy works do not deserve any space in the engineering institution.

Mr Lungu said it is important that local contractors work according to Government’s expectations.

“We are ready to support local contractors. They should do a good job. When they impress us, it means that the involvement of the Chinese in our road works will be reducing. It is very important that they impress us when they are given projects. We want them to do quality works,” Mr Lungu said.

He commended Sable Construction Company for the quality works being done on the road.

“I am impressed with what I have seen. I have been told that the road will last for 50 years once the drainages are in place,” Mr Lungu said.

He also reiterated his commitment to upholding the country’s constitution.

Mr Lungu said he has no intentions of changing the constitution in order to remain in power.
“Those people who are saying that I want to change the constitution to go for a third term, how, I have only been in office few months. Let me work,” he said.

And Sable Construction Company managing director Nazir Aloo assured Mr Lungu that the road works are of high standard.

“We have done 20kms and we are remaining with four to five kilometres and we will finish in the next two months,” Mr Aloo said.

He said the road will last for 50 years provided the drainage system is in place.

And hundreds of Mfuwe residents turned up to see President Lungu.

The residents lined up along the road with the clenched fists (Patriotic Front) symbol as the Presidential motorcade passed while President Lungu waved at them.

President Lungu was in Mambwe district to drum up support for PF candidate Jacob Shuma in the Malambo constituency by-election set for next week on Tuesday.

Other candidates contesting the seat are Peter Phiri of the UPND, Jarious Mchenga of UNIP and Florence Mwayopa, an independent.

  1. Don’t just blacklist companies doing shoddy works and abandoning work but also do the same to people running those companies. If you only end at blacklisting the company, the clowns register a different company and continue with their stewpidity.

    • sponge bob
If a contractor shuts shop or is blacklisted and registers another new company how can the selfsame contractor be awarded a million dollar contract with no track record…who is to blame then? This why I always say cadres like you don’t think through issues

  2. You need to pay them !! You bandits in PF.FTJ anRB regime stole . 13 months to go and bye PF and RB regime , next home jail . The economy is weak , every day lord shedding with your corrupt ZESCO stuff . 50 years of poverty even during England rule things were better. All the mining towns were better during UK rule , ZCCM , Zambia airways ,Dunlop in Ndola. All you selfish people are just bandits . 50 years of peace and Sudan or Angola look better . Put Zambia for sale or lease rather we Zambians living like a war torn country.

    • All those companies which are now extinct are the ones your preferred candidate made a fortune out of and became one of the many wealthiest people in Zambia today. Sabc failed to establish how a young man can just become rich in a short space of time. I wouldn’t want to be like you supporting someone who stole from me.

    • You tribal monkeys have been supporting master thieves, Kafupi, Satan, and now Chagwa who have increased poverty in Zambia. If Sata could find anything against HH, he would have jailed him and confiscated his wealth. Just continue voting for your tribal monkeys and wallow in your poverty. It’s your destiny.

  3. Call a spade a spade. Lungu is right. WHAT LUNGU FORGOT MENTION IS WHAT DO WE CALL A GOVERNMENT THAT REFUSES TO PAY CONTRACTORS, FARMERS OR WORKERS THE ANSWER “CRIMINAL”. GOING BY PERFORMANCE THIS GOVERNMENT IS THE BIGGEST CRIMINAL OF ALL!

    • Lungu said “Contractors who run away with the money are criminals and should be followed”

      PF POLITICIANS TOO!!

90 day bufi criminals must go to the front of the line!

  4. Lungu is such a sly hypocrite. Contractors do not finish jobs because most of the money is paid in kickbacks and none is left for the actual construction. Look at KKIA that Satan commissioned 4 years ago, and despite $25m being paid, there’s no single brick or slab on site. It has been stolen. Stop acting like you are not getting your cut!

  5. Lungu today in Mulobezi said that all those who are not happy with some people joining the PF should leave the party! That message should be loud enough to f00ls like Kambwili.

  6. Even a simple cadre can make that simple, casual, ambiguous statement from the presido. I believe the presido should be able to issue more concrete, resolute, presidential statements able to give direction!

  7. HH twalimukana even here in the Eastern part of Zambia. What is he left with now that eve Western Zambia is all PF?

    PF forever inZambia.

  8. Voters ask yourselves ” SINCE THE PF CAME TO POWER HAS LIFE IMPROVED FOR YOU OR ONLY FOR THE PRESIDENT AND HIS FRIENDS?”
    ZAMBIA VOTE WISE!!!!

  9. Lungu is just gushing hot air. He know who the criminals are but because bamudyesamo. Be like levy who blacklisted some contractors. Not blah blah blah……..

  10. Life has only improved for Lungu and his friends! All those who shouted ‘ifintu ni Lungu’ the most are complaining the Loudest about the biting economy! You deserve it illiterates! You vote for a visionless drunkard just because he speaks the same language as you! What thinking is that! That’s why I cannot come back to zed! The country is full of gullible, illiterate, docile people! Continue with your Lungu, we shall continue watching from a good peaceful distant!

    • Ba kaputo Davies…..mwiponta mukabwela…….Zambia is developing my friend just wait till they start chasing you in the diaspora

  11. SO, OUR POLICE DID NOT KNOW THAT THOSE WHO ABANDON THEIR ASSIGNMENTS ONCE PAID ARE SERIOUS CRIMINALS? WHAT A POLICE FORCE. DO POLICE FORCE HAVE ADEQUATE TRAINING APART FROM BEATING UP PEOPLE?

  12. I highly doubt this lazy man’s credentials as a lawyer; someone needs to look into it, he is simply too dull to read anything apart from a newspaper.
How did we end up this such myopic leadership….instead of making utterly ridiculous hollow statements why don’t you talk about doing a complete branch and root review of the whole procurement and tender process for GRZ road contracts at RDA. How can a contractor worth his salt pour 10 years of track record down the drain and risk losing return business? It is either you are paying contractors late or hand picking your illiterate cadres to do the job….if you pay contractors very late who do you think is going to pay for hire of the site, machinery, materials, fuel etc. Why are you not prosecuting? That’s because you breached the…

  13. That’s well said mr president shoddy works and leaving works unfinished. Such words a miss placed by laymen. One tests are carried out on every stage to confirm quality and standards. But just looking you certify the works is unprofessional, 2 payments on government projects takes time to be made contractor leaves site. As president of make a policy or visit south Africa or any developed country on how local contractors are treated. Here in zambia construction is run on street laws and kangaroo law any one can comment. Need a bank strictly for construction not were you find accounts for works, marketeers, fishermen who can withdrawal

  14. And what does this make you Mr. President who has abandoned the basic principles of the founder of your so called party. Are you s.tupidy that you can’t even think before you speak?

  15. Talk, talk , talk and talk. Zambia needs specific performance by having the criminals named and jailed. Jail two or three criminals and they will learn quickly. You know who they are. Just do it to show the people you can walk the talk.
