Government has congratulated both the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) on winning yesterday’s Lubansenshi and Solwezi West parliamentary by-elections respectively.

In a statement released to the media and signed by Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services and Chief Government spokesperson, Mr Chishimba Kambwili, Government thanked the electorate in the two constituencies for exercising their democratic right to choose their representatives in Parliament.

Mr Kambwili also paid tribute to the law enforcement agencies, the Electoral Commission of Zambia, election monitors and other stakeholders for their collaborative effort in ensuring the by-elections were held in a peaceful and orderly manner.

“It ought to be appreciated, however, that there was neither victor nor victim in yesterday’s by-elections,” Mr Kambwili said.

The Statement ended by stating: “Ultimately, victory in the two by-elections belongs to all Zambians who have to continue working together in deepening the country’s democracy and development regardless of their diverse political affiliations.”

  1. Kambwili, the writing is on the wall. You guys are packing next year. What kind of people are you. Edgar call for prayers of national reconciliation and your PF thugs are busy harassing Hon Kazabu for bailing his relative out of the cell. For crying out, the boy is in school. Blood is thicker than water. we are relatives before we were PF or UPND.

    • Hey Obatala, where are they going after they pack, if I may ask? Your pepertual bloging is not helping your party UPeND. While HeHimself is on the ground canvassing for votes, you are busy venting your anger on the alphabet! Get down there and spread your message, you think people read this online things? You are lucky yourself that you won a smart phone in a promo!

    • iwe kambwili!!… ,, the highlight of those elections was UNIP beating Rainbow hands down,,,,you should have mentioned that!!!,,, am stil shocked, i thought with all those headlines in the post Rainbow would easily beat `dead` UNIP

    • @Getout, thanks for reading my posts, and to answer your question, they are going into opposition. My fear actually is that Edgar will not be able to lead PF from opposition. As for grassroots mobilization. i recruit 10 people to UPND each day. It is the price I am paying for having voted PF in 2011. I am ashamed to be part of those that were duped into thinking PF mean well …..in it’s current form PF is the best example of institutionalized mediocrity.

    • @ Gellout!
“…where are they going after they pack…” (?)

With the share of misappropriated 3 billion dollars of various bonds, any destination its open. Some have already purchased their retirement nest in South Africa, others in UK and more “intelligent” ones have created “investor” residences in Hong Kong, Malaysia or Dubai.

Do not worry to much about them, they are at the forefront of “development” and “Foreign Direct Investment”.
Unfortunately, they are not interested to invest in Zambia.

  2. This is maturity at its best, Zambia can only flourish if we work together even through this world economic malaise which is actually very similar to that of 1938.

    • We will encounter this maturity or can I say level headedness coming from all quarters in PF through 2016 elections but rest assured of the arrogance to be re-established should power be retained by them! We are to see humble servants of the people who at every turn will have well rehearsed language! Mark Mumbi Phiri!

  3. Is it possible to have transparent ballot boxes both for holding unused ballot papers and for voters to place their votes in to avoid accusations of ballot stuffing. To the rational Zambians why did Mucheleka lose the election is it because of non performance in his constituency and nothing to show for the CDF if applicable, if that is the case using the same benchmarks why did Dora Siliya and Kapembwa Simbao win. Some rational answers are needed

    • Bo Buck Teeth, no need to insult Katondo Boys, he does not insult you though day in day out you insult everyone seemingly aligned to PF, including the Preident himself. It should be very simple to show some civility on this site. Or is it that hard really?

  4. Is it true to say it was a peaceful election when you PF police was sent to go and intimidate, harrass and kill UPND members and ended up killing two children in SOLWEZI !!!!!!! I have a lot of respect to SOLWEZI residents who stuck to their thoughts and made sure they voted for a party of their choice well done God bless you

  5. Is it true to say it was a peaceful election when you PF police was sent to go and intimidate, harrass and kill UPND members and ended up killing two children in SOLWEZI !!!!!!!

  6. True dat..Solwezi West I love you guys…..someone already was told he ain’t gonna ein when he said shiiit even if I lose will still be president. ..but is it forever? ?? Only time will telll…even if he wins again. ..it is mene mene tekel …..pwisheni?

  7. So sad that Zambia lives for politics and politicians are our star players instead of industrialists, academics and intellectual visionaries.Kambwili is happily a leading agent for this Zambian malady.

Solwezi and Lubansenshi residents wake up and quit playing this toxic game. You’re being used without knowing it.

  8. abena obatala mwalipena you recruit 10 pipo every day is it in your dreams.we dont need catle thieves.ecl efintu waumfwa.

  9. That is how the GRZ spokesperson should speak. My grievance is ZNBC which continues to BLACKOUT legally constituted OPPOSITION political parties. This really puts these parties at a serious disadvantage both in remote areas private TV and radio stations are unable to cover.

  10. Gone are the days when bloggers used to debate in a more respectful manner……miss the old school seasoned bloggers MMD chiefbootlicker…Nostradamus….chils..Mwanawakwitu..Wanzelu…Mwiponta mukabwela…Mushota…Nubian Princess…Ndobo (dobo)….Mzambia wa Zamani…A Phiri anabwera …Nyau…Janza Kumbele…Hilda Malama..Mpungula Mputyu…Mei Matungu…Jessie wa mu town…Obatala chakuti chakuti..
Come guys and let’s meet the President tonight in New Rochelle

    2016 vote PF ( Edgar )

    I thank you

  11. ECZ should ban payments of any sorts in the election week in areas where there are elections. Some use payments to buy votes and say they are paying officials. Anyone carrying large amounts of manee should face mob justice.

    • @patrick. Payments have been banned already. Kakoma lost his Zambezi seat because he “donated a pay phone to a local school”. Others lost their seats for donating to the Church during campaign.

Unfortunately this only works against you if you are in the opposition.

  12. THIS IS NOT A HEART FELT REPORT FROM KAMBWILI WHEN THE POLICE IN SOLWEZI WAS BUSY TEARGASSING THE VOTERS. IF THIS IS THE SCENARIO PF IS BRINGING IN, IT WILL BE A FLOP. KAMBWILI AT NO POINT HAS EVER SHOWN THE OPPOSITION CAMPAIGN PICTURES DURING IN BOTH LUBANSENSHI AND SOLWEZI WEST ON THE ZNBC AND TODAY HE CALLS THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE EXERCISING THEIR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. WHERE IS ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION? IS IT NOT HATRED, THEN YOU CALL FOR RECONCILIATION PRAYER AND FASTING ON 18 OCTOBER CALLED BY THE PRESIDENT?

PHARISIM MUST COME TO AN END.

  13. We now await with abated breath for the Kasama Central clincher by-election pitting the respective candidates from the pastoralists-led party UPND, and the ever-popular party PF.

  14. UNIP beat the rainbow party and the Post must be very disappointed………newspaper popularity is usually different with realities on the ground.

  15. @ Katondo Boys AKA (Emmanuel Mwamba)
Thought you are in South Africa as ambassador, tide is changing Zambians are fed up with lies of PF from its inception. Just one or two by elections the entire government machinery is summoned to harass, dupe and buy votes. Lies of development coming from state house ask Namulambe in Lambaland, people are fed up with lies. There is nothing to show as development and Namulambe is disappointed and besieged by local people to explain why development is not forthcoming. Wait for general elections next year ‘t will be shocker for PF.
