Midfielder Lubambo Musonda will miss Zambia’s opening Group A clash against Tunisia this Saturday at the 2015 CAF Under-23 Cup in Senegal.

This is because of a club commitment this weekend back in Armenia with his club Gandzasar.

“We have discussed with his club and settled for the decision that Lubambo plays on Sunday in Armenia and immediately after that match he should travel to Senegal,” FAZ spokesperson Nkweto Tembwe said.

“His team has an important game which if they win they will be number two on the log.”

The Chipolopolo midfielder is expected to join the team on November 30 on the eve of Zambia’s penultimate Group A match against South Africa.

Hosts Senegal complete Group A whom Zambia will play on December 4.

Lubambo is one of four foreign-based players in Fighton Simukonda’s 21-member team at the eight-team CAF Under-23 Cup that kicks off this Saturday and ends on December 12.

Others are striker Ronald Kampamba of Wadi Degla and his fellow Egyptian-based compatriot and forward Patrick Ngoma of Al Ittihad.

Zimbabwean-based midfielder Obby Chirwa completes Zambia’s foreign legion in Senegal.

  1. You chaps in FAZ sometimes sound like you don’t know what you’re doing. How do you allow a club to take away an important player when you have such a big tournament? Have been bribed by the club?

  2. Ati “the club has an important game of which if they win they will be number two on the log.” How is a regular league match more important than the 2015 CAF Under-23 cup???

  3. I believe that teams are allowed to use 3 over age players in the U23 competitions, who are our overage players? I’d have loved for Winston Kalengo to be one of those three allowed players, is it too late? If we do qualify to Rio 2016 let us do the needful & add some spine & experience to the team…

  4. Correction to my earlier comment; apparently teams are only allowed to supplement their lineups with 3 overage players @ the Olympics Final tournament itself, and not during qualifiers such as the one starting tomorrow in Senegal…
