FDD President Edith Nawakwi has accused the UPND of going round the country and telling people that the two parties are working together and will form an alliance ahead of the August elections.
Speaking shortly after a private meeting with the NGOCC Ms Nawakwi said some members of UPND especially some “crooked” MPs from Southern Province are telling people that they will go in an alliance when it is not true.
She said the UPND were feeling the heat in Southern Province which they think is their bedroom but that wherever they go these days the people in the province are telling them that they want a woman President.
She explained that the people in the province have realised that voting for the same people has not helped them in any way and that they have seen the progressive ideas of her party hence their eagerness to vote for FDD.
She also wondered why “her brothers” were falling over each to form alliances as if the 50%+1 vote was a new thing in the country, adding her party has the clause in the party constitution and that she become party President after a rerun because there was no clear winner in the first round.
She said the clause is there to help the country have a President chosen by the majority of the people and that it is not a blessing for unholy alliances made for the sake of forming government.

Remember Sampa who is causing political waves is also at the doorsteps of PF. Depending how things go from May i.e. major political defections to & endorsements of DF, Sampa may be Running Mate. MS Nawakwi; is that a gimmick to attract UPND’s attention because it has not even contemplated going into an alliance with any party after what happened with PF alliance in 2011.
UPND is led by people who are wise and learn from mistakes. Had UPND never entered that pact, PF would not have won any elections at all. PF used UPND to champion their cause and copied policies from UPND which they did not understand how to implement hence the pronouncements but not action.
This time, around UPND, will go into an alliance after the first round. So all those thinking UPND will form an alliance now should forget it.

Nawakwi watched Sata and Chiluba embezzle funds with impunity while she stood there and continued to shower them with praises.
Voting for Nawakwi will be like regurgitating the rotten food. She participated in making Zambia very poor under Chiluba. Part of the wealth she uses running the party is stolen money from Chiluba era.
Verdict: Nawakwi is just the same as most PF members. Giving her a vote is disingenuous and purely tribal.

You are absolutely right. FDD wants to work with PF because PF has realised that FDD did better than MMD and is poised to cut away PF ‘s votes in these elections by a considerable margin.
PF is dead afraid of UPND that’s why they will do anything with anybody to win the elections.
Right now I hear they are begging Sampa ‘s DF to for an alliance with Sampa as running mate.
PF is so desperate that it is even thinking about inviting UPND to the table form an alliance and make HH president while Lungu vice so that they can not be prosecuted for massive stealing after the elections.
Just watch, after dissolution of parliament all these plans will come out in the open.

Just join the winning team and get a full cabinet position. You dont even qualify to be a running mate. UPND can even win these elections without any Alliance. However, to be on a safe side, HH must try and get each and every vote including votes from smaller parties like FDD, Rainbow, a chunk from PF, from MMD, etc. HH and team must aim for a convincing win like Chiluba’s in the 90’s.

These elections will leave alot of people disillusioned at the end. They will spill out political garbage after they fail to attain their goals. These will be the hardest and most technical elections this country has ever had. There is the 50%+1 issue, referendum on the bill of rights, parliamentary and council elections.
This is not a time for the hard hearted as it will require alot of willing and dealing. At the end of it all only 1 will emerge as winner. May the best candidate who understands politics and people’s wishes win!
I think she has just felt the UPND heat on the ground. You are free to work with anybody you prefer Mrs Hambulo. Last time under UDA you went underground the whole campaign period only to resurface after elections to mock HH. She is divisive and jealous, care less about her as she has no impact at all on the ground, but she must stop attacking fellow opposition unless she is joining the visionless team.

Unless she is talking of another Southern Province…the one I know only know Nawakwi as their in-law or wife to Hambulo.
She is supposed to be reminded of Carlington Maize scandal.The problem with our nation is that we forget easily like chickens.There are people who are holding bigger offices both in public and private institutions but have a lot of skeletons in the cupboard.Nawakwi should not portray smartness when she failed to explain about Carlington Maize issue.People need to scrutinize all those who want to vie for higher office in the land.We should base our voting on moral issues of our leaders.Those with tainted images should not be near the corridors of power.
I think the UPND respects Madam Nawakwi because she is a fellow opposition leader.
But Nawakwi must not take this respect for granted. If she wants to start attacking UPND, that is not the right course. Her very tiny following may be mopped up and she will get even less 15,000 votes she got. People like Nawakwi have failed to assess their true chances in coming elections and just “hope” that things will be better.
