“WE are surprised that former vice president Guy Scott could be so bitter and use abusive language over Margaret Mwanakatwe’s application to stand as a parliamentary candidate for Lusaka Central constituency when it is everyone’s constitutional right to aspire to any position,” Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Chama has said.

Commenting on Dr. Scott’s outburst towards the PF following Ms. Mwanakatwe’s application for adoption to stand as MP in Lusaka Central, Mr. Chama said it was unfortunate that Dr. Scott, a senior member of the party who once served as secretary general and acting republican president, had refused to come to terms with the party constitution.

He said since its inception in 2001, the PF had always conducted a transparent and democratic adoption process which gave all deserving members an equal chance to be adopted for various party positions in each election.

Mr Chama said instead of being bitter, Dr. Scott should just apply for re-adoption to stand as parliamentary candidate for his constituency in this year’s election and allow the due adoption process to take its course rather than bringing the name of the party into disrepute.

“We are surprised with Dr. Scott’s attacks on Ms. Mwanakatwe because she is very free to exercise her constitutional right. There are a lot of MPs in the party who are receiving competition for adoption from other members of the party for their seats but how many of them have complained that they are being undermined by other members?

“There is nothing wrong that Ms. Mwanakatwe has done and so Dr Scott’s complaints are not justified in any way because he knows very well that since 2001, the party has conducted a transparent adoption process where everyone has had the right to exercise their willingness to stand on any position,” Mr. Chama said. He wondered why Dr. Scott had decided to vent his anger on Ms. Mwanakatwe when there were other people who were challenging him on the same seat but never talked about them.

Mr Chama said there was no seat in the PF which was reserved for the incumbent, adding that the ruling party will not stop anyone from exercising his or her right to stand.

“There are a number of people who have applied to be adopted as candidates for the Lusaka Central constituency but he has not criticised any of them. Is it because she is a woman that is why he is attacking her?

“The PF will not prevent prospective candidates from applying and we will continue receiving applications from all the 150 constituencies because we believe in democracy as a party.

“He (Dr Scott) hasn’t even applied to be re-adopted and we find his outbursts very surprising because there is no candidate who will be adopted on account that they are the incumbent but all will be subjected to the same adoption process,” he said.

Mr Chama said the PF would not abrogate its constitution to meet the demand of some individuals who thought they needed preferential treatment because all members were equal and needed to be treated fairly as they were important to the party.

Yesterday, Dr. Scott was quoted as expressing disappointment and outrage over the application of Ms. Mwanakatwe to stand as parliamentary candidate for Lusaka Central, stating that the PF had not consulted him over her adoption.

    • If you have not read what Guy said and are responding based on Chama’s letter then chances you are a PF cadre and like all cadres; reasoning is not possible.

    • Im not surprised at all after everything your foolish PF new leadership did to real PF founder members. Lungu and team humiliated Dr Scott in multiple ways. Mr Chama, dont find it surprising that Ms. Mwanakatwe went to Dr Scott to ask for a blessing for taking his (Scott’s) seat/position in Lusaka Central.

Dr Scot is not stupid, he knows that you guys already plotted behind his back to replace him. That is why Ms. Mwanakatwe approached him to get his blessing. I like Dr Scott. He has integrity and he is very smart. He would have been the best President ever had we let him finish the Sata’s term. I cant say the same for the current PF leadership.

    • NSAMA, I THINK YOU ARE THE ONE WHO DID READ GUY SCOTT’S STATEMENT. THE MAN IS SO BITTER TOWARD MARGRET TO THE POINT OF DEMING HER AS A SIMPLE BANKER. I PERSONALLY THOUGHT THAT GUY SCOTT IS NOT NORMAL SURELY CAN YOU START BEHAVING LIKE HE DID LIKE ONE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE RIGHTS OF INDIVIDUALS. SURELY LUSAKA CENTRAL IS NOT THE PROPERTY OF GUY SCOTT. BRAVO CHAMA FOR YOUR WELL THOUGHT OUT RESPONSE TO HIS STATEMENT.

    • GS is a maverick. This is something you sort out internally. Mwanakatwe is within here rights to stand. End of?

    • @James Moonga. I think you did not read Guy Scott’s article. In the first place Scott states that she does not qualify to stand in that she has not been a member of PF long enough. Besides its Mwanakatwe who arrogantly told Guy that she was standing for Lusaka Central and was waiting for his blessing. How fair is the PF adoption system according to Chama where Mwanakatwe is already boasting of being the candidate. The PF are a bunch of liars who don’t deserve to be in government. This is how Siliya and Simbao are sitting in parliament and cabinet while founder members of the PF are languishing.

    • The point Scott is making is that Mwanakatwe is MMD – Rupiah Banda’s candidate. Or is Rupiah now part of PF? Learn to read

  1. We hear your new boy Jonas Shakafuswa will recontest Katuba on PF. Has he applied to PF for adoption for the Daily Mail and Times of Zambia to run creaming headlines that he will recontest on PF? Or maybe Katuba is the only seat in the PF which will be reserved for the incumbent.

  2. Scott you re playing double standards on this one.You dragged the entire Pf to a convention in kabwe in the name of respecting the party constitution, but what has changed when people re doing things as per constitution. You re a spent force, just retire from active politics.ECL all the way to 2021!!!

    • He says he can’t find his form 5 certificate. And has to write to Cambridge. He’s a fake he doesn’t have grade 12 or equivalent. Pf have extended period of applications so he can produce his expired papers!!

  3. An unprejudiced view of his work locally and internationally as well as the three months in the hottest seat in Zambia with ED foaming at the mouth, trying to wrestle his way in with ‘anointed’ talk… would lead one to conclude scores are still being settled at his expense. Love him or hate him, he has been in the game long enough to see when the dagger is drawn.

    • ANC and UNIP, a splinter party, were mass movement parties formed by the desire to gain independence and MMD was formed to get rid of the one party state unlike UPND and PF which were formed by individuals frustrated by the MMD. This is why the UPND inner circle feels that since the party was formed by a Tonga it should continue being led by a Tonga. People like Sampa feel that since PF was formed by his uncle he should have a bigger say in its running and hence Lungu’s outburst that PF is not a personal-to-holder. Scott literally walked the length and breadth of Zambia campaigning for PF like a one-man band and the people who are now enjoying the fruits were nowhere. Who said life is fair?

    • This is the second time in the last fortnight I have felt like the insight you deliver in a brief glimpses hides a story of supreme value…

  4. If Guy Scott formed his own political party today, chances to win the 2016 a very high. He has all it takes. And we would all vote for him. Who doesn’t know him, anyway?

  5. Scott what have you done fo Lsk Central for you to cry for it. We saw your trie colors in 3D so just retire old man

  6. Scott, leave the party of thugs and vultures where everyone is looking to abuse public funds and enrich them selves, join another party.

  7. Yes Guy Scot, I hear you! It is painful for new comers to be getting juicy positions at the expense of old members. But you lowered yourself by failing to provide real leadership during the transition – you chose to fight the same central committee you are now wishing to be a preserve of long serving members. You chose to fight Edgar Lungu against the will of the majority of PF and Margaret might have done a lot in those critical moments together with RB to keep PF in power. If they are being rewarded for funding and campaining for Lungu then let be it,they invested at a critical time. In this case it is not where you started but which side you found yourself with at the critical moment! It happens, just strategise and come up with a counter attack if you still wish to stay in politics!

    • @Zambia is ours!!:
You are a true example of an uneducated PF cadre who thinks with an Ar.se not brains. Where can Margaret Mwanakatwe get the money from to invest in campaigns when she has been dragged to court for failing to repay a loan – so shameful for a former banker. She cant even manage her life that’s why the bank got rid of her.

  8. It is very painful for anything one has worked had for to be see destroyed by monkeys. Scott has worked very had for PF to treated like a small boy and be compared to a dept streak-en Mwanakatwe.

    • KCI, THIS MAN SCOTT WHATS TO BE TREATED LIKE A SMALL god WHAT OFFENCE AS MARGRET COMMITTED HONESTLY BY EXPRESSING INTEREST TO STAND IN LUSAKA CENTRAL WHICH IS NOT HIS PROPERTY. GENTLE MEN WE NEED TO RESPECT OTHERS SO THAT THEY CAN RESPECT US ALSO.

  9. Discard him at your own risk, you did the same to GBM, now Guy? Tamulemona efyo balemisampaula, ever thrown something in your trash bin, only to go back looking for it, pfacists shall never learn.

  10. No kind words for Scott. He is part of a party that has taken us ten years back. Scott, Chama, Lungu, Sata, Mwanakatwe doesn’t matter. They are all wrong.

  11. Don’t complain just apply bwana why are you trying to frustrate other members, you just prove that you are the right man for the seat.

  12. The other side of the story is that Scott might still be interested in standing and could have been offended when Margaret asked him to bless her. Why bless someone if you still want to stand in Lusaka Central again?

  13. Scott is the most sensible PF member, it not for the stuupid parentage clause in the constitution would have made a better President than the clown who is there today.

  14. Scot has again started dividing the party. And what a shame, an old man like him using dirty words like MATUVI (FEACES)? This shows how bitter you are man. Even those who would in normal circumstances be on your side can never be because of your shameful language. Remember how you almost brought war last year? You are a hypocrite Mr. Scot. You are a colonialist who thinks that you are better than any indigenous person. Just apply man. Who has forced you not to apply?

  15. LET SCOT STAND ON UPND TICKET OR WINTER KABIMBA WE ARE AWARE THAT HE WANTS HIS WIFE TO STAND THE DUO ARE EXPIRED POLITICIAN AND MY ADVICE TO PF IS THAT THEY SHOULD NOT GIVE ROOM TO SCOT BRING CONFUSIONS.

SCOT GO TO YOUR FARM AND GROW CATERPILLARS YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO LOOK AFTER YOURSELF AND NOT FROM MP ALLOWANCES.

  16. This white man has been given an unbelievably comfortable life in Zambia. The people of Zambia even entertained him as a Leader without considerations of his colour and true origins. Yet he has a colonialist mentality complete with poor consideration for his adopted black sisters and brothers. He has shamefully played the race card using colonialist cunning to cover his racist , mocking views of Africans. Given a small window to hold the highest office, he tried to ‘re-colonalise’ Zambia, shamefully acting out The intelligent white man over blacks making Zambia a joke in modern independent Africa. He has become too comfortable with the humble charity afforded him by Zambians so much so he continually looks to cause strife in Zambia. Having said all that, I wonder if selecting…

  17. Its time Scott retired, he has become clearly senile, and has shaky hands. When he talks he just mumbles and takes a stab at racist imaging. He needs to be removed from PF, expel him. Having said all that, I wonder if selecting Hon Mwanakatwe is an intelligent move by PF. She’ll lose that seat, she’s not popular enough to win it.

    • We need dynamic politically talented candidate or the seats go to UPND as people won’t relate to past scandals and she is rather quiet in presentation like church mouse. PF needs fighters who are willing to graft to get their seats, like Dora Siliya, who’d also make a good running mate. His Excellency is Humble in presentation with a gentle approach, he must be surrounded by ‘big hitters’ who can hit the balls thrown at him out of the Park. The bulldog characteristics of Chama, Kambwili( maybe a little more diplomatic) are the right people to surround him to get the message home and deflect negative opposition play.

  18. Maybe he wanted his wife to stand in that constituency hence the anger, let’s wait and see otherwise it was not necessary for him to utter such words towards the his fellow party member.

    • In a world where butterflies fly backwards…yes. In the real upright world , he is a shameful corrupt old fool acting up and humiliating himself.

He only appeals to colonial apologists who want to relive their racist years of inhuman conduct.

He’s too old to make sense and these Dynastic attempts to power are shameful failures to relinquish a brief bright spot of Fame.

  19. LT I’m very disappointed with your reporting, you have stripped to the levels of Zambia watchdog, one sided reporting. You could have also published an article on what Dr. Guy Scot said so that people have both views and comment with adequate information. Why are you only giving us one sided views? ZAMBIAN MEDIA IS A LET DOWN, BUSY MISLEADING THE MASSES.

  20. Scott formed PF with Sata, so out of respect they should have told him that the are picking Mwanakatwe.

  21. In my opinion, Ms Margaret Mwanakatwe was wrong to ask Guy Scott for his blessings. By asking for his blessings, she was actually asking Guy Scott not to apply for adoption by PF. She should have applied just like anybody else without saying anything to Guy Scott. I do not see anything wrong in allowing 20 people to vie for one available position.

  22. Muzungu opusa, doesn’t deserve to be adopted. This man has a tendency of if I can’t have it then no one should

  23. We are busy attacking Guy Scott forgetting to analyse whether our candidate being floated is strong and saleable. Lusaka Central is no joke. In PF, we have become so much drunk with power such that our ears are blocked. GS may have reacted badly to this but we need to think properly before attacking him. We must learn to listen not just firing missiles on whoever opposes our actions. Its going to be really tough this year.!!

  24. Reading between the lines the new PF party line is “we don’t need Scott!” just like “we don’t need GBM” and now look where GBM is? Drunk with power. Soon they may be saying “we don’t need voters” and simply use teargas and state of emergency like KK to remain in power for decades. But I don’t think Zambians can let that happen again. Arrogance and ignorance is a dangerous mixture

  25. The usual voting pattern is that the electorate vote for the MP and Presidential Candidate from the same party. So Let Mwanakatwe stand for Lusaka Central and this will result in fewer votes for PF.
If Guy Scott stands then PF will master many presidential votes. Please let DuDu stand for Lusaka Central.

  26. Mr. Davies Chama, you are a very dull secretary general of PF, you don’t know even the number of constituencies in Zambia, not 150. There are 156 including the new constituencies of Chirundu and other more five. Wake up Chama and go back in grade 7 to write special papers 1 & 2.

  27. Comment:iam glad i stoped thinking like a cadre.A cadre can b instructed to jump in2 a pit and they wld agree without questioning the motive.
They r gullible and blind followers.
Coming 2 the matter at hand cocerning Dr Guy scott. What he lamented on is that thier are councillors in the constituency who are supposed 2 b given chance instaed of new comers or rather hijakers.

  28. Application and to be adopted are two deferent things. Margret are not adopted by she applied thinking that she might be picked as women because the 40% of women to adopted on PF ticket moreover Lusaka Central Constituency is a personal to holder to only one person Scot NO! Let the young ones also try their luck to contest Lusaka Central. Let him apply on PF and UPND and see what happens.

Don’t take Zambians for granted gentlemen please. However EDGER LUNGU will carry the day on 12 August 2016. Too bad for HH as this will his last chance to loose again and form his own party then after.

On the grade 12 or equivalent we need Examination Council Of Zambian to clarify this as many people do not understand what it means. e.g. we have with Full Grade 12/Form 5 or Form 3 or Standard…
