The UPND Vice President Canisius Banda says Zambians are going through the worst times of their lives because of the bad governance of the PF.

Dr Banda charged that life is now so expensive that people are being forced to eat tomato sauce as relish adding that even the same tomato has become unaffordable to some people in the country.

He said the living standards for people in the country has deteriorated under the PF government hence the need to kick them out of power in the next elections.

Dr Banda said people are struggling to survive because of the continued hike in food prices and that the hikes in mealie-meal and other commodities is due to the bad governance of the current administration who don’t seem to know what they are doing.

“People are failing to buy even tomato so that they can make “joncho” tomato sauce for their meals because it has become so expensive, as UPND went people eat nshima with their choice of relish not with tomato sauce. We are now buying 1 small tomato at K2 when we were buying 6 big tomatoes from the same amount.

“People are dying from preventable diseases such as the recent cases of cholera because of lack of clean drinking water and other sanitary conditions, as UPND we want to stop all these challenges. We want people to have three meals in a day, we want people to have proper toilets, we want a better life for Zambians,” he said

And Dr Banda said the salary increments for civil servants is an insult to government workers and that God will punish President Lungu for mocking government workers.

“You can’t give a person K200 as salary increment that is an insult to your workers. Mr Lungu you should not be doing such things God will punish you for mocking civil servants with a mockery of a salary increment,” he said.

Dr Banda said this when he featured on the Platform radio program on Comet radio.

  1. The question we should all be asking ourselves is, are we better off than before Edgar became president and does he inspire or have the ability to make this country better? In my opinion, NO.This man has failed miserably he deserves to rest after 11 Aug

    • well i can not risk change now as i see no suitable replacement among the opposition who can lead us out of this quagmire.
if you look at, analyze honestly without prejudice, you will note that even the so called hh cannot turn around what is obtaining in the country economically.
worse still, his supporters here are doing him a disservice as they just insult and are short tempered, a trend which is so dangerous and can even bring chaos. they insult every jim and jack who opposes their small god.
how can we entrust power to such characters? a devil you know……..

  2. its sad especially for the most vulnerable families…..but just wait for few minutes and hear how pf moron will argue with their shallow and dull minds…..

    • KEEP QUITE CHI BANDA,US WE ARE SEEING TARRED ROADS,HOSPITALS,SCHOOLS BUILT BY PF,YOU CANT SEE ALL THESE WHY? NI PABWATOFYE IFWE NAKABILI.

  3. …ofcourse evidence is all over to see how the cost of leaving has sky rocketed……but at times you are better off giving personal examples than in abstract….I don’t think Canisius has experienced and tomato sauce meal…but he was better off saying that in ten years its the first time he has struggled to pay rent….

  4. Funny how he has avoided to include rentals.i challenge Dr Banda to show statistics of pipo dying of hunger under PF. He talks about Cholera this has been a scourge from Kaunda Era . It has nothing to do with poverty but personal hygiene. As a public health doctor he ought to know that. Tomatoes have become expensive as most is being exported to DRC. As Zambians we just need to grow more tomatoes to meet the demand.Dr Banda God will also punish you for being over 50 years and not having a house of your own

    • @ Abazano,
You do not need to have a house of your own, what manners is having the ability to pay rental charges for whatever place you occupy…. We cannot all be landlords! Next you will be saying we should all be growing our own food by the time we reach 50, etc etc.!

  5. You know, UPND Heads must try to connect international to international occurrences of similar plights. Yesterday, I was watching news items where opposition Keaders in UK were complaining about the rise in the cost of the average shopping basket for poorer families. In the UK, we have FoodBank Centres across boroughs where charities are providing Tinned Goods and low cost household items to people who are not able to cope. It’s a large number and shocking that such poverty exists in UK. People be aware also that Homelessness in African Women without children in UK is on the rise. It is the first time in my 35+ years in UK that I have seen such callous conduct by UK gov’t. I am starting a campaign to petition UK Embassies to open their eyes to this across Europe. It’s shameful…

  6. It’s shameful for EU to come here and pretend they provide better conditions for Africans when they are beginning to destroy the lives of their citizens of African Origins. We must not let Banda and HH try to tell us that life is perfect everywhere but Zambia. They must start to correctly depict the general global situation. This is unpatriotic.

  7. Well said Mr. Vice President!! But wait a minute, even a three year old knows that the cost of living has indeed gone up!!! However, men of substance would tell us exactly what they would do if found in the same circumstances. The price of tomato is seasonal. If market forces of demand and supply are at play especially during this period of the year, then what would you do Mr. Vice President? The cost of living, as far as I can remember, has never been any better for everyone. That is the more reason why we keep changing regimes from the colonial times to date. This is a democracy, and as such, all the best Mr. Vice President. I sincerely hope that under regime everyone will be all smiles and without any complaints whatsoever!! I thought that poor governance does not allow for divergent…

  8. @trudy the biggest dunderhead is bufi tuutu. Surely how can you justify being 50 and having worked for over 20 years and you have no house of your own. What inheritance do you leave for your children. You say HH is rich because he has assets if he didnt think assets were important he would have chosen to rent. But renting has no dignity. Even a 20 year old can evict you and disrespect you. We grow old to build assets for our next generation. But i understand those of u in the diaspora owning property is impossible. Here in Zambia its as easy as you are serious. Please come back home and start building and stop justifying homelesness

  9. Well said ba Banda, but you see, while you are allowed to blame government, it should start with you. Your landlord is going through much of the hell you have just itemized above. Look, you are a leader and as such behave like one. Pay your rentals on time so your landlord’s standard of living can improve. Your landlord can only defy the eating of tomato sauce only if you the UPND leader pay particular attention to your rent paying obligation. See you are no better than the people you’re castigating. So anyways call me adamant but….
    NB.
The voting pattern in SP will never change any sooner, so I know how not to give HH and you my vote.
