Zesco downed by Horoya but qualify

Share

Zesco lost away in Conakry this evening but still secured their last 16 passage to the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Zesco lost 2-0 to Horoya but advanced 4-3 on aggregate to next months pre-group stage.

Two first half penalties by Daouda Camara handed Horoya the win but it was not enough to cause an upset.

Zesco then suffered a major setback in the 44th minute when influential midfielder Cletus Chama was red carded.

George Lwandamina’s side will face Stade Malien of Mali away in the first leg next month.

Stade advanced despite a 1-0 away loss in Cameroon against Cotonsport on Sunday to book their passage 2-1 on aggregate.

Winner of the last 16 tie will qualify for the Champions League group stage.

The loser will be relegated to the Confederation Cup for another chance at advancing to the league phase of the second tier competition.

  1. This was really dangerous for Zesco to do. Going for an away game without a coach! Just one more goal and they would have been out. You were lucky with our tax money you parastatal parasites.

  2. i thnk it’s about time chicken made a choice btwn zega n the national team,it’s clear to see dat his absence frm the technical bench affectd da team

  3. where the two penalties and red card deserved… ?
the standard of African referees is questionable. referee tried everything he could to make sure Horoya qualified, but ZESCO hanged on and advanced 4-3 on aggregate. wat happened to professionalism.

  4. Comment:If zesco were budled out of the competition George Lwandamina was going 2 b blamed for the results.
He is employed by zesco and it is expected of him to pledge his loyalty to the hand that feeds him.Why should he b excited to coach the national team and after all faz has not given him a contract.

  5. Citizen, you are right. In fact Chicken would not have neither stopped the penalties nor a red card from being awarded. Let talk about the match fixing and the biasness of west African Match Officials and Administrators.

  6. ZESCO must be serious. Give the coach an ultimatum you can’t be in a polygamous marriage its always complicated you got to choose. We need also to get rid of these CAF characters. We complain year in year out but they do nothing about their poor officials.

  7. Zesco is treading on a dangerous path. Chicken George should be made to make a choice one way or another. I just hope with new people at the FA this issue will be expedited.
Whether the referee was biased is neither here nor there. Zesco went for defence & they were hit, an experienced coach should have understood that Horoya were always going to have an advantage with their away goal.
