Controversial musician Pilato has written an open letter to President Edgar Lungu complaining about a range of issues affecting the nation.

Pilato who was last year arrested and detained for his anti-Lungu sentiments in his music said President Lungu must act now for the sake of his legacy.

He said mealie meal prices have become so unbearable and the government has not explained what has necessitated the increase in prices.

“Dear ba President Lungu, I told myself never to do a song on president Lungu this year but it’s becoming very difficult not to do so. I honestly think the president’s advisers and those that simply talk to him are not doing a great job,” Pilato wrote.

“So many issues affecting the majority of our people have been left without answers for example. The prices of Mealie Meal have become so unbearable and the government has not explained what has necessitated this increase instead they have continued to make those tuma childish statements. There’s also a shortage of the same and yet there’s no clear explanation as to why considering that the minister of agriculture has maintained that we have plenty of maize stocks,” he said.

“Every month we are spending $18million on power but they have not shared with the public the period for how long this unbudgeted for expenditure will go on. We are told that Kariba dam may need 3 years of good rainfall for it to work as expected. For how long will this massive loadshedding be with us?”

He added, “UNZA and CBU conditions are just too shameful. Today it is still unclear under what circumstances the two universities will open as the minister responsible seems to be dancing between two opposing stands. Mr. President this is about your legacy so it’s only right that you act now lwenu.”

Pilato wrote, “These people you are working with do still have ambitions so when your time is over these people will be joining other coming governments and be ministers but for you that may be your last political job. I HONESTLY do have a song about you and you may not like it. Am hesitating to release it hoping that you act on the so many issues affecting our people. Please my president do the right thing and make your legacy your pride.”

    • Imagine, even ba Kapepala insulting Zambians who elected president Lungu to power. Ba so called Pilato seems to be very excited with the blind support he is receiving from HH. What I can advise u pilato is that it is very important to respect leadership, the tone in your letter is very disrespectful. I dont think you can say the same things you have written here to your own father. even when your father has starved you, we still maintain the respect. It pays to respect leaders but it doesn’t pay to disrespect them. If u don’t agree with me, continue with your behavior, time will tell. In Bemba they say “inshiku shika kusanga”

    • its so unfortunate that you turn out to be what you called him “PILATO”. dont be so ignorant as yo tako that cant even get to see the sun. what he was saying affects the public. he was kindly advising the president to address the mass community about the affecting us all.
      #WISE UP NYAMA

    • Iwe naiwe……Pilato is writing sense……..How can we improve if we have F00ls like Mr. Kudos for nothing. Pilato did not insult or using bad language.

    • Seems Pilato understands his rights as a citizen of Zambia way above many calling him all sorts of names! It is basic knowledge that every citizen has a right to expression, be heard, listened to and engage leaders in government at will! Those paying a blind eye to these precious, protected and respected rights in the Zambian constitution are doing a disservice to themselves and good governance! Thus this “miserable nincompoop” as one may wish to refer to him is more of genius acting within the provisions of the supreme law of the land!

  1. FOOLISH. LEARN TO RESPECT YOUR LEADER. HE IS OUR PRESIDENT I MEAN ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT. DONT BEHAVE AS IF YOU ARE NOT A ZAMBIAN. MIND YOU HE IS GOD CHOSEN. FIGHTING HIM YOU END UP FIGHTING WITH GOD. YOU UNCIVILIZED STINKY LOOKING DEVILISH PERSON YOU NEED GOD’S DELIVERANCE. LOOK AT YOUR OWN PICTURE- ARE YOU HUMAN OR SMT? GROW UP AND RESPECT LEADERSHIP AS ALL LEADERSHIP COMES FROM GOD

    • You must be a very bad person. Did you know that writing in capital letters is considered shouting. You shout at your wife, kids, works mates and all your friends. It reveals your character. Shame.

    • Go through that letter again dear there’s no insults, read it properly if you find any word which is insults let me know, this is why you fail even exams cause you pay not attention to understand questions. Bravo pilato

  2. FOOLISH. ITS TIME YOU GREW UP. RESPECT YOUR LEADER. HE IS OUR PRESIDENT, ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT. YOU CALL YOURSELF FILTHY ZAMBIAN CITIZEN RIGHT. I WONDER WHY CHARACTERS LIKE YOU MR. FILTHY (LOOK AT THE SELF PROCLAIMED PIC AS SHOWN ON TOP) ARE GIVEN SPACE IN THE MEDIA. IF YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN TAUGHT TO RESPECT LEADERS PLEASE YOU BETTER SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND COMPLETELY STAY OUT OF PUBLIC DOMAIN. DON’T CONTAMINATE WELL MEANING ZAMBIANS WITH YOUR INSULTING WORDS TO OUR GOD GIVEN LEADER. AMANO UBUBI AYALAMBA

    • God chosen kwisa don’t show childish and ignorance manners.. Let me advise you should first read, understand, think and then act or let me say comments.

    • God given kwisa, was jesus christ, his father and the spirit in the booth voting for president lungu or any other for that fact. Dont put things on an imaginary being, own up and take responsibility. So hitler, musolini, mandela, george bush, cameroon, mugabe, patrice lumumba, kwame nkhrumah, levy, gadaffi, ahmedinejad were all god given? this is foolishness to actually believe this. You vote alone baba not with god.

    • THIS CHAP PILATO IS MAD. REMEMBER THE SONG BY THE SAKALA BROTHER INTITLED ” ANIHONE ANIHONE ANANKALA PAZIBI YOKUPYA.

IF THIS CHAP THINK HIS HH WILL BE IN STATE HOUSE IN AUGUST, I CAN ASSURE HIM THAT HE IS DAY DREAMING.

  4. THESE ARE THE BEST FRIEND OF HH,THEY SMOKE TOGETHER.
IMAGINE HH WINNING,HH PRESIDENT,GBM/BANDA VICE,PILATO MINISTER OF YOUTH,CHITUO MINISTER OF HEALTH,MWITWA MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS,ETC RUBBISH OFFICES WILL TURN INTO DAGA SMOCKING PLACES.
BA PILATO MONEY CAN NOT BE COMPARED TO GOOD RELATIONSHIPS.IF YOU ONE GIVING YOU CASH AS TO OPPOSED TO FRIENDSHIP WITH PEOPLE YOU REGRET AS TIME GOES ON

  5. Threatening the president is very dangerous thing in zambia, terms like going for your throat or chumbu mushololwa are police business

  6. He is speaking what Zambians are going through because of the useless government. He is wiser than you paid *****s who can’t see beyond race and tribe. Good message pilato we need brave warriors like you.

  7. This was correspondence between you and your President, why make it public, what do you want us to do. In the likely event that he responds, do you want the reply in the press.
Your letter has not even reached the boss.
Stop being political mbuzi ya muntu, madoti.

    • My favourite lines: ”“Dear ba President Lungu, I told myself never to do a song on president Lungu this year but it’s becoming very difficult not to do so……. Mr. President this is about your legacy so it’s only right that you act now lwenu.” Pilato wrote, “……. these people will be joining other coming governments and be ministers but for you that may be your last political job. I HONESTLY do have a song about you and you may not like it. Am hesitating to release it……!!”

  8. pilato is talking sense, he is talking on behalf of ordinaly folks who struggle to survive on basic needs, bravo pilato

  9. Pilato is better than Lungu. Lungu needs to pay Pilato a lot of money for the consultancy work and forget about those bootlickers
    Timely advice

  10. I usually just read and move on. but on this one I cant help but to wonder some of the contributors reasoning “empty heads make a lot of noise” my teacher used to say when I was in primary school. will be wise at times not to expose your intellectual ineptitude by keeping quiet. Are you paid to talk nonsense???? I mean what Pilato is saying is about every Zambian, there conditions etc, cant you see that?..maybe you should spend your time productively other than on the internet where you basically talk nonsense…no wonder we are so poor !!!,, luck of critical analysis of issues. “fyakulanda landa fye”,,, you are suffering but alas you say “Ifintu ni lungu because he was god given”..my foot Christian nation.

    • @ Jazzyman ..You mean you can see that you are the one talking nonsense?? We are talikng about respecting leadership here. Just go ahead and vote your HH, we see who takes the day!!

    • Pilato is right by pointing out the serial hardships from the point of view of the masses because to them everything hinges on (or the buck stops at) the president and he himself the president has admitted this onerous responsibility. The masses don’t know anything about copper prices, drought, infrastructure development, mealie meal smuggling, price wars and cartels, corruption vandalism and espionage. All they want is to live a better life at any cost, after-all their forefathers fought for their independence.

  11. How can cost of living be high when you don’t bath don’t shave you don’t wash no lotion on your skin, you don’t wear undies you don’t brush your teeth, the only thing you do is eating bwali and smoking Ibange.

    • This country will go nowhere with such low levels of thinking…..Pilato is writing sense. If you can not follow this article from Pilato then something is wrong with you. Who is paying you to write such no sense when Pilato’s view is non partisan????

    • Exactly ! His sentiments are non partisan. When u speak sense ati u belong to Upnd . Did he mention any party? He’s talking issues of governance. Problem is people think GRZ is PF . U need to learn to separate the 2

  12. Pilato, you forgot to add that the trust of the people is eroding in him because he has surrounded himself with criminals for advisors – Kaizer Zulu opened fire in a public place and was found with about 6 guns at his home but todate he is still the political adviser to the President; the economic adviser was being investigated by ACC for corruption but he is still there. Then of course, there is the issue of incompetent ministers – Chikwanda, Kambwili, Mwila (Home Affairs).

For a leader to engender trust, belief and respect, he must act on such obvious wrongs. He has done nothing which leaves us to wonder who is in charge, who has the power at State House?

  13. WHERE ON EARTH DO THESE PAID UP PF CADRES LIVE? WERE DO THEY BUY THEIR MEALIE MEAL, WHAT KIND OF ELECTRICITY DO THEY USE, DO THEY HAVE THEIR OWN FEELING STATIONS? I REST MY CASE

    • My friend I agree with you….. it seems when you point out whats wrong then you are automatically for HH…it becomes boring and not worth responding to…..some people seem to enjoy or appreciated mediocrity…something that I find rather sad…

  14. Ba Pilato you are been used by UPND, so dont get too excited about what is going just because HH has promised you something. Remember the devil you know is better than the angel you dont know. ukaisanga muli mwamoneni.

    • Mealie meal prices are crazy high , too many cadres here anyway can’t reason when u get excited with funded bundles to comment here .

    • Out of all the political parties we have in Zambia, why mentioning only upnd,I think you are a failure this is why you can’t go beyond that.

    • If when u wake up u have to ask your friends which gas station has fuel, and still don’t support Pilatos views , just know the one who’s weed is stronger is yours compared to the one Pilato smokes .

    • Jesus said it clearly that impofu tekuti itungulule impofu ibiye.my dear muli blind mwebale muntuka pilato..we we bange in webo

  15. That’s the problem with ass lickers. U don’t even know when to complain. Do u want Pilato to kneel as he’s saying those things? His letter has tackled issues that affect us. From your 9 to 5 job you ll go home and find no power… Is Pilate wrong to ask what’s going on ?

  16. *****, This day dreaming mental retard has grown big headed. He dreams that he has influence in society whilst he is a nonentity weed smoking lunatic. The stats were published all over the world last week which ranked Lusaka as the cheapest city in the world. Go and see for your self in neighbouring DRC and Angola where a can of coke cost $5 and lunch meal at a hotel at over $100 and a bottle of beer above $8.

    • When Pilato speaks,we all listen whether for or against.Meantime you ***** AKA Babylon System is nothing but a statistic of economic refugees in SA..VOETSEK!

  17. Cadres do surprise me a lot….especially these guys condemning Pilato for stating the truth…Does it mean your families are spared from the daily rise in commodity prices?Have the closure of UNZA and CBU spared your relatives who are there? Shouldnt PF be criticized? or Blamed? You guys easily forget….Just 5 years ago you were in opposition. You criticized everything, called people names and blamed MMD for a weak currency(By then a dollar was equivalent to k4.5).Mealie meal was k36 per 25kg and you criticized MMD. Look back gentlemen, were we are coming from. Do not turn a blind eye to the current situation just because you are PF, living have become so costly of late.Insulting Pilato of course shows your loyalty but questions your judgment. May be imwe kwanu mugula unga pa k36 per 25kg…

    • Zambians who see wrong and not speak up have selective amnesia. Ine nsoni to defend wrong doing. Some of u even forgot ati kuli 19 hrs news mweyanayendala malaiti. Not everyone can afford generator. And u should have friends in Zesco …pipo who are actually on the ground… The reality of what’s gonna happen in future concerning power is scary. Then there’s that other swine of a cadre who’s talking about Kaya lunch ati $100 mu hotel can of coke $5 .. Delusional just!!!! Continue chewing relatives money.some of us actually work

  18. those who are against pilato bushe ni country yanu olo yaNYOKO? this guy is speaking on behalf of the people, us who are suffering not you *****S WHO HAVE RELATIVES IN THE GOVERNMENT AND can receive free things or help. WHY ARE SOME OF YOU SO SCARED TO SPEAK WHEN THINGS ARE NOT RIGHT? SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS THE LAW AND TRIES TO SPEAK ATI pilato atekanye sana….pilato is educated and knows the law unlike you boot lickers who cant even read. yes our president is an elder and we respect him that is why pilato knows best not to insult him in his songs because he respects him but all he is doing is ask why things are the way they are….SO PLEASE IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT SUFFERING IS RIGHT NOW JUST SHUT UP AND ENJOY YOUR RELATIVES’ MONEY AND LET US, WHO ARE SUFFERING, SPEAK ITS OUR COUNTRY TOO.

  19. Pilato stop Ibange ne Chamba because you already appear mad on the picture above…kikikikiki UPND please take him to Chainama for rehabilitation…

  20. I think Pilato should do another song about Lungu. The tragedy of our existence is in not speaking out when things are going wrong. Lungu has undoubtedly failed as a leader. He’s association with Former President Bwezani Banda (RB) is questionable. Why were they adamant about restoring RB`s immunity when KK`s immunity has not been restored up to now?

  21. Pilato and your sponsors plz stop misleading Zambians on the state of cost of living..! Travel and see wat our neighbours are going through…! Iam currently in Namibia were a bag of millmeal is costing 300 nam dollar..i.e k210 equivalent..! So far, Zambia is feeling all of its neighbours…! I lv Zambia..!

    • You are a monkey, kolwe, chilipombwe…just because our neighbours are starving then we should starve???How do you PF hombres reason kanshi? You are even proud to say we are feeding our neighbours yet your kith and kin back in the villages are starving..what a twat you are.

  22. When you compare Zambia to its neighbours, you mean if your neighbours child fails exams its right for yours to do so as well.
Instead of concentrating on the content of the letter, most of you have concentrated on the writer.

  23. PILATO, FIRST LET ME CONGRATULATE YOU FOR YOUR BREVITY TO WRITE TO OUR PRESIDENT Mr EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU. PRETTY MUCH, YOU MUST HAVE UNDERGONE A TORMENTING MOMENT TO REACH THE CONCLUSION TO WRITE HIS EXCELLENCE. IT IS VERY GOOD THAT YOU WROTE THE PRESIDENT. HOWEVER, THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE CONSIDERED BEFORE YOU SET OUT TO WRITE TO HIM. 1. THE MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION, 2. THE STYLE OF YOUR LETTER, 3. THE WORDING OF YOUR LETTER, 4. A BIT OF RESEARCH BEFORE YOU WRITING YOUR LETTER TO HIM, 5. MAYBE NOT VERY IMPORTANT, BUT EVEN THE TIMING. NOW, IN SIMPLE LANGUAGE, LET’S BRIEFLY GO THROUGH THE ITEMISED THINGS.

  24. And you think it’s only Zambia that is going through economic challenges? Learn to research ba Pillato ibange teisuma.

  25. JUST ONE REMINDER: IF YOU FIND THAT I HAVEN’T FINISHED DISCUSSING THE ABOVE ITEMS, IT WILL MEAN THAT LT REFUSED TO PUBLISH OTHERS AS IS THEIR TYPICAL HABIT.
    1. MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION:
Pilato, if you really thought and were convinced that your letter was carrying some important message, probably, you shouldn’t have chosen to have it published on an open social media. You should have written our president directly to his postal address or have it hand-delivered yourself if you doubt it will reach. Writing anyone on social media such as this one gravely dilutes your serious intentions and informs the readership that you did not intend to write to them. The intention was for the general public to read and see how you have ridiculed him. In the first place this letter was for ECL but…

    • He did a good job sending his letter here coz here there’s assurance that the letter is read whether he likes it or not. Otherwise of he has written that formal letter u speak of , your state house people who have just thrown in in the trash. So Pilato.. U did well taking the express route I actually realised these politicians follow social media stories religiously .

  26. In the first place this letter was for ECL but pretty sure he is not the one who read it first, if at all he has even seen it to be able to read due to his busy schedule as at now.
2.2. THE STYLE OF YOUR LETTER
ECL is a very important man not only in Zambia but the world-over. Mind you he is the president of Zambia. Meaning- on the same level as the president of China, Germany, UK, Japan, USA, etc. You are a man and not a kid. You should have structured your letter in a business-like manner or some descent format. I have seen and heard kids writing to important people but asking their teachers or parent (etc) how they should format their letter. So, kids end up writing a properly formatted letter that is business-like or closer to that.

  27. The problem that I have found in Zambia is that most people do not even want to cultivate a small piece of land. They are lazy. This season the rains have been good. Please, when you were born you should have been taught how to cultivate. I am a government worker and what I grew last year, am still milling kuchigayo and am anxiously waiting to harvest this season’s crop just in my backyard. I have never sent not a single bag of maize to my over 70 year old parents in the village because they are still able to cultivate. Learn to use your hands efficiently. And who ever told you that nshima is the only food? Work hard, and do not blame anybody for your lazziness!

    • Good advice! most of these pipo who are complaining about the cost of living are actually lazy ones, some are even claimimg that there relatives are starving in the villages, do villagers really buy mealie meal? Where I hail from they dont, because they cultivate their own food. Gentle men no politician will come and solve your problems just work hard because these polician are all the same they are liers who just want to line up their pockets. As for Pilato he may have some points but the way he wrote the letter sounds unrespectful and is like mocking the president.
