Zesco demolish Blackpool in five goal fest

Share

Kenyan import Jesse Were on Saturday fired four goals to send defending champions Zesco United within earshot of pacesetters Nkana at the top of the FAZ Super Division table.

Were’s goals came in a 5-0 home win over bottom of the table Mufulira Blackpool at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Harambee Stars striker is now the overnight top scorer in the league with seven goals, one more than Nkana’s Walter Bwalya who will try to reclaim his spot on Sunday when the leaders host Lusaka Dynamos in Kitwe.

Were scored in the 23rd and 37th minute while Cletus Chama found the target in-in the 33rd minute between
to give Zesco a 3-0 half-time lead.

However, Were was unfairly denied a third goal in the 27th minute for an offside call that never was.

Were made sure in the second half with further strikes in the 59th and 62nd minutes to send Zesco to 15 points, one behind Nkana from five and six games played respectively.

  1. This Were guy is a very very good striker. I watched the game on supersport and the foolish linesman refused a genuine goal.
    The actual score line is, Zesco= 6
    blackpool=0.

  2. I watched the match on supersport and this Were guy is a very good striker. The jealous linesman raised a flag on a genuine goal. Wonder why he is not called to officiate on international matches.
    For Were, the sky is the limit.

  3. Meanwhile its another loss for Power Dynamos & (hopefully) another nail in coach Tenant Chilumba’s professional coffin!

    The truth is that TC cannot even be counted as of the top 4 or 5 current Zambian coaches, i.e. George Lwandamina, Wedson Nyirenda, Patrick Phiri, Aggrey Chiyangi etc, as he has failed to make us competitive on the local front, let alone on the international CAF level, which is where an ambitious club like Power 90 surely belongs.

    The sooner Tenant goes the better for Power Dynamos, who might not even have to look too far for a replacement…
