Sex workers in fear of being victims of Ritual Killers

Share

SEX workers, mainly operating from roadside slots in Lusaka, have recorded one of the worst business seasons in the past few weeks as they cannot freely go out for fear of being victims of ritual murders.

A check by this reporter on one of the roads in Long Acres, which is usually crammed with sex workers, around 22:45 hours on a Friday night, surprisingly found only two prostitutes who were hesitant to come close to the parked vehicle.

“How many are you in the car first? Open the windows,” one of them asked and demanded from a distance as the other watched carefully, while following the colleague behind.

Asked why the unusual hesitation and questions, one of them, who only introduced herself Beatrice, said it was no longer safe to do business as the ritual killers were on the loose and would easily go for them.

“I can’t come into the car where there are more than two men, I don’t know what you may be up to if not killing me for some body parts,” she said.

Most of her colleagues had completely stopped coming on the streets, but had relocated to cheap guest houses where they would rent rooms and do business from.
She said roadsides were better than guest houses as one would spend nothing and also get quick business.

Beatrice also complained that Police officers who were patrolling the city did not spare them once found on the streets after 22:00 hours.

She claimed that in some cases she and some of her friends would pay the admission of guilt fee in kind before being set free by the law enforcers.

A check at one of the named guest houses in Soweto Market, found all rooms fully booked with most of them paid upfront for a month.

According to one sex worker, Evelyn Sakala, found at the guest house, the prices of the rooms were even hiked by K10:00 due to the high demand for the rooms mainly by sex workers.

“In most cases we are three or even four paying for a single room and if one has a client, we give her chance to do her business, but if it is an overnight client then she has to contribute a bigger amount towards the room charge,” she said.

Lusaka has in the past weeks witnessed ugly scenes including ransacking of foreigners’ shops on suspicion that they were behind the six recorded suspected retail murders.

  1. Zambian ladies of the night are very vulnerable on the road at night without any protection by pimps. If they are not abused by policemen who demand sex or their money, they are abused and used by Indian & Lebanese men.

    • There are no ritual killers in Zambia, only cunning people harvesting healthy young men’s organs for profit. Talk to the Chinese, they may know something about that!

  2. Maybe there are Idian bloodthirsty assailants on the streets of Zambia at night, since INDIANS BELIEVE IN HUMAN SACRIFICE for their business to prosper……

  3. We need more short-lease holiday apartments in Zambia. It is embarassing to lodge into an establishment with a family where there is rampant fcuking going on – and mostly by respectable married members of society! As for ritual killings, I doubt the sex workers need worry. This to me appears orchestrated to terrorise and the acts do appear either superstition/religious driven, or at best a determined but ignorant belief that these killings will result in someone’s wealth elevation. It is like albino killings. Oh!!! Stop bleaching!? It might just mark your back for bull’s eye as the ignorant albino hunters join in the senseless behavior!

  4. Meanwhile the Zambian killers are walking free….. blaming the foreigners was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Very interesting indeed to learn that the side effects of ritual murders are actually a cure for eradication of the so hated prostitution by society. Just like the poison of one snake is a cure for onother snake’s poison inflicted by its bite. Then why pour sand in someone’s private parts to deter her from prostitution when other crimes like ritual murders which are still ongoing, actually do eliminate other bad vices and vice-versa? Can researchers come up with a list of all crimes which have eradicating effect on other crimes.

  6. Christian nation that allows rampant prostitution without bating an eyelid. Zambians are such hypocrites fasting and prayers whilst turning a blind eye to such vices. Im yet to hear a single leader whether mayor, MP, minister or president say one word raising the issue of prostitution and their clients both of whom I believe must be dealt with. Able bodied women driven by greed NOT hunger and the married men using these services take infections back to innocent wives or girlfriends and degrade the institution of marriage all this and we casually comment as is if the article is about about normal people fearing ritual killers maybe the ritual killers should take advantage of these easily available body parts BOTH the prostitute and clients. Yes I said it.

    • @ signature, you must be speaking from experience. Ha ha ha is that all youve got. So tell me, are you a trick or a John because clearly I touched a raw nerve

  7. @spellcheck you are a real HYPOCRITE.

Call yourself a Christian and write such utter rubbish and advocate violence against vulnerable people like these women!

They are only doing what they have to to survive and make ends meet. They need HELP, not your hate speech!

Christ himself befriended and associated himself with prostitutes. You have now denied him!

    • @ shameful Which part of the word tells us to continue sinning over and over tell me oh wise and holy one. Ati because they are vulnerable. When i fell on hard times i did become an armed robber so why should an able bodied woman sell her cookie just for money, sorry if telling he truth is being a hypocrite then yes I am one. Which violence are you referring to the murder of prostitutes by clients via AIDS or the murder of clients by prostitutes AIDS, tell me about he orphans who are left behind by these men and women (I’m sure you never think about those vulnerable little ones until now). Opinions are like A holes we all have our one and you are entitled to yours. Just enjoy your weekend special as you pick them up tonight or sell your katundu. I will say it’s again and nothing you…

    • Ati “Christ himself befriended and associated himself with prostitutes”. Please enlighten me with the verse where Jesus says they must continue selling cookies so that I can learn from you oh wise and holy one.

  8. Prostitution is often called the oldest profession in the world, although I suspect politics came first. Of course, there are strong similarities between the two professions – we tend to get screwed by both, but politicians end up being a lot more expensive.

Men are physically violent and destructive

Politics is also a safer career choice, but apart from the odd assassination, politicians tend not to get physically attacked or killed. Prostitutes, on the other hand, get killed on a regular basis

  9. Where’s president Sinkamba & his green party? This is another greenfield that needs legalisation. Amai Tasintha Luo will be a huge resource person.
