UPND MP Kennedy Hamudulu loses the party’s Primary Elections

Share

SIAVONGA UPND Member of Parliament, Kennedy Hamudulu was on Friday left shocked after all the 10 wards in his constituency voted against him for adoption in the August 11 polls during the hotly contested primary elections held at Kawila Primary School.

Mr Hamudulu, who came fourth, only managed to get nine votes out of the 200 ballots cast.

Kariba ward councillor, Darius Mulunda who won the primary election, got 110 votes with his closest rival, Given Kwapu getting 34 votes.

Mr Charles Habinda managed 25 votes while Zilindi Himoonga getting seven votes followed by former Local Government and Housing permanent secretary, Timothy Hakuyu who got six votes. Others who challenged Hamudulu for adoption were former UPND Siavonga district chairman, Jelly Kapalangwe who got three votes, Leonard Madabula who got two while Collins Simoonga only managed one vote.

The first three names on the list would be submitted to the constituency, district, provincial and finally to the National Management (NMC) Committee which would make a final decision on who would be on the opposition party ticket.

Hamudulu’s popularity, whose term as Member of Parliament comes to an end in May, appears to have gone down.

It is alleged that he has lost touch with the grassroots who have accused him of neglecting the constituency from the time he was elected as Member of Parliament.

The electorate also alleged that the Member of Parliament did not visit his constituency to appreciate the problems the people of Siavonga were facing.

  1. Holding primaries to select candidates to contest elections is a good idea. But I hope there’s a mechanism of screen candidates before being allowed to take part in primaries. Otherwise, the recommended top 3 may just be some low-quality fellas who may not even articulate issues in Parliament.

    • Ba Lt, don’t be so excited about the loss. It’s called internal democracy. He did not lose his parliamentary seat and the candidate who wins is still UPND. WHT? You don’t report crap going on in the PF primaries, why!

    • If there was internal democracy in UPND then they would have got rid of HH after he lost four elections and reduced the number of the party’s MPs in parliament.

    • @Suntwe wa Suntwe:

How does reporting what happened to Hamududu excite anybody other than the fact that LT is simply stating what transpired at the constituency primary? YES, INTERNAL DEMOCRACY is always welcome and we are all happy when it happens. Nonetheless, the fact that you still have one ‘man-god’ in the image of “Haka…Hi” as the final authority on who gets nominated, don’t you think what you are chirping about as UPND internal democracy is only a fantasy of yours?

    • continue…

By the way @Suntwe wa Suntwe, how come HH has escaped this INTERNAL DEMOCRACY which you are so convinced exists in UPND? Is it because UPND can’t do without him despite the dismal performance UPND has shown since his (HH) becoming Party President? TALK IS CHEAP, and you UPND sycophants have no credibility talking about DEMOCRACY if you can’t practice it at the highest echelons of your own Party!

Ordinary people in UPND are sending you a very clear message that they are NOT happy with the current crop of UPND leaders. They all seem more obsessed with the idea of OPPOSITION to everything such that they even neglected taking development to their people. I am sure most UPND rank-and-file are reasonable folks who want a balanced approach to politics. And UPND leadership…

    • continue…

And UPND leadership will do well changing their tactics and approach to issues—so better listen up or go DISTINCT.

      God bless People power!!!!!!

    • Hamududu should not even have contested as it was a foregone conclusion which he chose to ignore. We’ll see what kind of politician he is whether he will rally behind whoever will emerge victorious among the three who have ousted him from the possibility of being nominated

  2. More to fall but mind u hh will have the final say making that process mock demo in upnd. These really open there mouths to protect hh and not the pipo. U can now continue insulting your wife and children or join pf and pay back

    • HH will have the final say not on the primaries but on the final recommendations of the national management committee!

  3. Democracy means the people’s power to choose their leaders, why hold primaries elections if there is no change, why should we hold general elections if we can not change anything. LT & their pf masters, must learn to respect the will of the people. I am very pleaseed to note that there is true democracy in upnd!

    • And how does PF or LT not respecting what courageous grassroot folks in UPND are doing? UPND MPs forgot it was poor ordinary folks in places like Siavonga, Bwengwa, Chikankata, Kalomo, extra, who sent them to Parliament to speak on their behalf and advocated for their CONSTITUENCIES’ DEVELOPMENT. And the people’s TRUE FEELINGS are now showing through these rejections of the current GOOD-FOR-NOTHING “UPND-Ayishas” in Parliament.

How can you claim TRUE DEMOCRACY in UPND when you have failed to subject your small god, HH, to the same democratic processes these MPs are going through? I wouldn’t be surprised if you starting accusing these UPND voters of being PF plants—ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha….!!!

  4. @Sumtwe wa suntwe; You are an ***** who wiil never see the corridors of State House with your Hia Hia.

  5. Good for Hamudulu. Non perfomings MPs must go. People need developments in their constituencies. The Mbabala MP, Ephraim Belemu needs to go too.
