The Agricultural and Commercial Society of Zambia has maintained that the planned musical show featuring Congolese Rhumba King Koffi Olomide will go ahead as scheduled.

In a statement, the Show society says reports that the concert has been cancelled are not true.

“We would like to inform the general public that the planned musical performances by rhumba king Koffi Olomide scheduled for 29th, 31st July and 1st august are still on. The society would also like to state that the speculations going round on various media about Koffi Olomide’s Lusaka shows being cancelled are not true,” the statement read.

“A contract was signed for Koffi to come and perform at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on 29th July and at the bandstand in the showground on 31st July and 1st August.”

Olomide is at the centre of a row in Nairobi, Kenya when he physically assaulted his female dancer at Jomo Kenyatta Airport upon arrival in that country where he was due to perform.

The controversy saw the Kenyan government deporting Olomide and organisers cancelling his shows in that country.

Earlier today, The Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Executive Director Engwase Mwale says the women movement will engage Government to block Koffi Olomide from entering the country to perform at the Lusaka Agriculture and commercial show, reports Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde.

Koffi Olomide, is one of Africa’s most popular singers was caught on camera purportedly kicking a woman at the main airport in Kenya.
Police were seen intervening to stop the attack on the woman, identified by Kenyan media as one of his dancers.

The 60-year-old rumba star denied in a Facebook post that he attacked the dancer, adding that he respects women.

In 2012, he was convicted in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his home country, of assaulting his producer.

The court gave the singer a three-month suspended prison sentence.

The altercation with his producer, Diego Lubaki, was over a debt of about $3,700 (£2,800), the court heard.

In 2008, he was accused of kicking a cameraman from DR Congo’s private RTGA television station and breaking his camera at a concert in the capital, Kinshasa, following disagreement over recording rights.

In 2012, the same Congolese singer also have records of beating a Burundian national, an international Photo journalist Jean Mandela based in Zambia who insists that Koffi should be arrested.

Speaking to journalists on the 23rd July, 2016 in Siavonga today, Ms. Mwale said people with such conduct should not be entertained in Zambia.

“They must consider revoking Koffi Olomide’s visa and stop him from coming to Zambia” She said

  1. His behaviour stinks must be kept out of Zambian borders. I expect women to take a leading role in douncing the behaviour of the musician and demanding his removal from Zambia upon arriving. it is now incumbent on the Zambian govt to bar him from coming here. violence against women and Journalist cannot be condoned or compromised for music sake.

    • Zambian women are more interested in getting drunk at bars than uniting for a cause…its really laughable you calling on the PF govt to do something when they are currently working with that singer called General Kanene who was pardoned by Lazy Lungu.

    • All the men beat their wives in Zambia so they don’t see anything wrong with this. The saddest part is that women are going to pay to watch this pervert and molester.

    • The Kenyan deported him earlier today, while we shall be embracing him. What a shame? Anyway, it is not surprising because even rapists are contracted to perform at political rallies.

    • “”Speaking to journalists on the 23rd July, 2016 in Siavonga today, Ms. Mwale said people with such conduct should not be entertained in Zambia. I DON’T LIKE THE BEHAVIOUR OF KOFI OLOMIDE. HOWEVER, KOFI’S BEHAVIOUR IS THAT OF GBM. NOW, WANTING TO CONDEMN KOFI WHILE AT THE SAME TIME LEAVING HH APPOINTING GBM AS RUNNING MATE AND BECOMING A POTENTIAL SECOND IN COMMAND MAKES A LOT OF NONSENSE ON THE PART OF NGOCC. IT LEAVES ONE WONDERING IF THIS NGOCC HAS LEADERS WITH HEADS OR THEY HAVE BUT WITH NO BRAINS. WHAT IS MORE OF A SERIOUS POSITION? A POLITICAL TOP LEADER OR AN ENTERTAINER?

    • If the show society will proceed to let him come I will personally boycott the show itself apart from his concert. And you Saulosi what kind of shallow thinking is that?A contract can be rescinded and the show society has valid reasons to do that.

    • Lungu has condoned the humiliation and murder of women in Zambia. What has happened to the sponsored !diots who stripped and shot dead those two women? Slow down on the hypocrisy!

    • @mailon
Please don’t mind with the above named blogger…he/she submits a comment then thinks later these are the so called “educated” bloggers will have. The grounds for terminating the selfsame contract are simple and straight forward here and the negative publicity is not something the Show Society would welcome.

    • Watch this moron Koffi kicking this young lady at JKIA and there are pending allegations of him raping three women of his dancing team.

    • Koffi sure, at your age why are you doings such things? Honestly, im your fan and I look foward to watching you. But come on, this is embarrasing not only to you but the entire DRC. Do you want to retire on such a note? Shame…..!! Please, find some image builders, perform consistently and retire on a more sound note…..!!

    • The Home Affairs Minister, Edgar Lungu will even open the floor, with Efrakata song, Edgar’s favorite.
I DELETED all songs I had to do with Koffi or any Rumba I didn’t know about.
Women should go in streets and protest, and adopt that orphaned girl he kicked. I just saw the video from Kenya airport, I really want to kick Koffi & Kaizer Zulu like that. Those guys are jerks!!

  2. Only in Zambia, you talk of being a Christian Nation (Whatever that means) yet you allow morons like Koffi who abuse his staff…I can only imagine what he does behind the scenes in rehearsals with those women.Anywhere else this bum wouldn’t be given a visa.

    • As a Christian nation we are making this time a convenient time to forgive koffi and risk him assaulting someone here. I truly believe from his demeanor that is how he treats his dancers or women in general. I saw this from his apology.

  3. Kofi has been very consistent with his treatment of women and additionally with his violent behaviour towards any gender for that matter. I don’t believe he is so unique that he strangely gets picked on without having committed these offences comparative to other performers . Please let’s put a stop to another pretentious African who parades as representing Africa that how we get it wrong and send a wrong global picture ….this one we have to say NO pafula !!!!!

  4. Kangaroo courts!!! That’s what u o r. That’s why those better than u introduced courts – that’s where all charges r head & decided.

  5. I saw Koffi on Camera venting anger on this poor girl, called Pamela. She was kicked in the lower belly and had it not been the Police restraining him, he could have killed her. If Kenyan Government kicked him out, we should equally do the same by not allow him to enter Zambia. Remember he committed an offence in Zambia by punching one of his dancers. He fled the country when Police officers were looking for him.

  6. How will her travel to Zambia yet his passport has been detained by the Kenyan government? They deported him without his passport.

  7. How will he travel to Zambia yet his passport has been detained by the Kenyan government? They deported him without his passport.

  8. If he kicked a lady in such a manner and was deported from Kenya, there is no way or excuse that he should be allowed in Zambia. Otherwise this will epitomise the low of lows for a valueless, immoral, decadent and primitive PF government that is in place at the moment.

  9. Good job Kenyan government for kicking out this egomaniac who thinks he’s above the law.Change his name to Koffi Overhyped trash.

  10. Koffi is ntweno frank Bwalya Lungu fund raiser guest. PF are holding dinner dance for Chagwa and mumbwe phiri outside plot 1

  11. Koffi will just endorse Chakolwa Kaloba Wrungu and all this woman will stop yapping, this are the same women who supported Chakolwa’s decision to pardon Kanene.

  12. The agriculture show society should listen to public sentiment and cancell his shows immediately. Home affairs should deport this fool immediately if he is already in Zambia. He committed similar acts in Zambia and got away easily. No foolish Koffi in Zambia!!

  13. No surprises there. I expected this. Zambians tend to pay a blind eye to all evil. I’m sure the venue will be packed even

  14. IT IS QUITE DISAPPOINTING THAT ZAMBIAN ORGANIZERS ARE MORE INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY THAN SUPPORTING WOMEN RIGHTS ND PUBLIC IMAGE..DOES THE LAW NOT FREE CONTRACTORS FROM UPHOLDING ANY AGREEMENTS MADE WITH THIS MAN BECAUSE OF HES MISBEHAVIOR ..

  15. GBM is more human than Koffi hence free be beat any1 he so wishes, come to think of it his only spending less than a week while the other one is with us as long as God permits…… Animal farm

  16. only a dull bring the issue of GBM to the fore. NGOCC condemed GBM when he had beaten his wife and Government controlled institutions never covered the NGOCC because he was minister by then. And GBM apologized to both the wife, all women and the entire nation, as if that was not enough, he became an ambassador during the 16 days gender activism. Why do you want NGOCC to be commenting on the issue they already commented and the matter was resolved. Just because PF has their own agenda against GBM and HH you want to join! come on guys, stop being dull. GBM is happy with his wife.

  17. Ba Engwase what about GBM the wife batterer who is a running mate of a named party why have you not protested. This is what is called double standards.
