United Party for National Development (UPND) Vice President for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba says the UPND will accept and respect the final verdict of the constitutional court regarding the petition challenging the declaration of Edgar Chagwa Lungu as a winner of the 2016 polls, reports Pan African Radio Journalist Hermit Hachilonde.
Speaking during a media briefing held at the Party secretariat in Lusaka on Monday the 29th August, 2016, Mr. Mwamba implored UPND supporters to remain peaceful as they patiently wait for the ruling from the constitution court.
He further urged UPND sympathizers to ensure that they avoid any act that may ensue into violence.
Mr. Mwamba has since assured both public and private media houses that should the constitutional court rule in favour of the UPND, there will be no political interference in the operational of the media houses in Zambia, affirming that the UPND led Government will only come in if there is any misrepresentation from a media house merely to correct the situation.
He added that the UPND will immediately open the post newspapers and the three recently suspended media houses.
“As UPND we will accept the outcome of the petition from the constitution court” GBM said
Meanwhile, the UPND vice President for Administration Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba also revealed that a team of UPND lawyers who went to serve a Petition on President Lungu, urging him to allow the Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Patrick Matibini to Act as President were in the morning on 29th August, 2016 beaten by the soldiers at statehouse.
“Our lawyers who went to serve president lungu with the Petition challenging him to allow the speaker of the national Assembly Dr. Patrick Matibini were beaten by the soldiers at Statehouse” He said
And the former defense minister also advised Patriotic Front (PF) Deputy spokesperson Father Frank Bwalya to desist from commenting on matters that are in court as it is disrespectful to the courts of law.
“Frank Bwalya must stop commenting on matters that are in court” he said

Am I the only one reading this wrong? It seems UPND thinks that the Constitution Court will declare Mr Hakainde Hichilema the winner of 2016 Elections and they are anchoring their petition on this. If that is the message spread to their supporters, that is really unfair to the 47 % of the voters.
I think there are only two outcomes out of this petition that will benefit UPND
1) the Constitution court orders a Recount
2) The Constitution Court overturns the results and orders re-run of the election
Surely these two outcomes should not make GBM to start building castles in the air. The Recount and Re-run can still go either way.

You have to understand that a ‘re-run’ order automatically disqualifies Lungu and PF (I recall someone mentioning this unless they were talking from their bottom). And if that is the case then a rerun will be academic and it will all but handover power to UPND and PF. In fact any of those outcomes really favours the UPND more than Lungu.
The problem here is that the votes and other elections materials, being key exhibit, shouldn’t continue to be in the hands of the ECZ as they are accessory to the alleged malpractice. Lungu too shouldn’t continue to occupy the office of the president. This in itself is illegal and unfair, the very essence of the petition.
The is no where in the Zambian constitution were recount of votes is provided…. the outcomes
1. Disqualification of Lungu and declaring HH winner
2. Rerun of elections within 30 days which may include disqualification of Lungu as a candidate.

Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has said that even if Jesus was taken to Stand in Southern Province, Tongas will not for him.
Mr Kambwili was making special appearance on ZNBC Sunday Interview which mainly features PF members.
In apparent reference to southerners, Mr Kambwili said there is one province in this country where they would rather vote for a cow and not Jesus Christ.
Mr Kambwili remarks came on the night when ZNBC main was aired four minutes late in effort by President Edgar Lungu to use every avenue to pacify the tribal talk.
