Newly elected UPND Dundumwezi Member of Parliament Edgar Singombe says the people of Dundumwezi will only welcome President Edgar Lungu’s announced visit to the area if he comes with solutions to the many problems facing the people.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the inauguration ceremony of President Lungu, Mr Singombe said President Lungu should not use Dundumwezi as a mockery of development instead must deliver tangible development.
He said the people of Dundumwezi voted in the manner they did as a protest against under development.
Mr Singombe said after late President Sata visited the area, there was hope that the PF government will deliver development but to no avail.
He said President Lungu should only come with answers as to why the people of Dundumwezi are not benefitting from the national cake.
“Yes i have heard him mentioning Dundumwezi, that is nice but let him not mock those people because they voted like that expecting development and now that he has imposed himself on the people’s will, let him deliver,” Mr. Singombe said.
” We were told that mobile and road network challenges will soon be a thing of the past in my constituency but nothing has been done up to now,” he said.
Meanwhile Singombe has pledged his continued support of the UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.
He said the party has to unite and go back to the people who voted for Mr Hichilema and has since advised UPND supporters to remain calm and wait for a directive from the top authorities.

I agree with you two. Let ECL take development to NWP. When I listen to debates in Parley MPs are agreeable on the fact that Luapula is the least developed followed by NWP whereas SP is high up there. So I understand where NWP are coming from and ECL should look at these two provinces first.

The people of Chief Chikanta (Dundumwezi) grow a substantial portion of the maize exported to Zimbabwe thereby improving foreign exchange reserves. They need a hospital right there in Chief Chikanta and not Kalomo.
The people of Southern Province have nothing to appreciate for what belongs to them. They are NET contributors to the exchanger and fiscus. The surplus is used to develop other parts of Zambia. Southern Province and North Western Province is the one bearing the cost of development in Luapula, Muchinga and Northern which are net deficit regions.
There are no township roads that have been completed in Kalomo, Monze, Choma. You even lie that the Niko-Monze road has been done. Even the HQ building in Choma has not been completed.

Surely they are not farming for the government but they farm so that they can have money in their pockets. If you are clever, you and your MP would find a way for channelling some of the money generated from the maize farming towards development. A good MP on the other hand will have the right connections both within the investor community and government to direct money for development to his/her area. Again I say, it’s time to bring up NW province. It remains largely untouched. It is a far cry compared to the rest of the country. Bridge the Kabompo river to connect Zambezi and Lukulu districts. Also interconnect Zambezi and Kaoma districts, thus reducing the Lsk-Zambezi trip by about 300 km. This time we are highly prioritizing to develop the economy and the 7 provinces. Western and southern for their huge share in the previous term. We are also going to identify our next presidential candidate who will win the 2021 elections in a supa fashion.

Just been listening to the Hot FM 12.00 hours, UPND have warned their newly elected MPs not to accept positions in the PF government, they risk being expelled. I asked myself who should be expelled from UPND, is it not HH who has lost five times.
That’s why now some districts should be created in other regions that have not had an equal share, enough is enough. There are big villages in other areas with big populations that are fit to become districts unlike some that are just bushes no people.

It is wrong for the MP to assume the people of Dundumwezi are owned by UPND.
Those people are Zambians just like any other zambian from any part of Zambia.
As an MP, Edgar – MP is a leader who should do his part to improve the welfare of the people of Dundumwezi.
As a president, Edgar – President is a leader who has to do his part to improve the welfare of all Zambians including the people of Dundumwezi.
So, just as the president cannot claim ownership if the people of Dundumwezi as president of the country, the MP too had no right to claim ownership of them as MP of the area.
Actually the mandate of the MP is only a small component of the mandate the president has over the area.
So, the MP should not deny the people’ rights to interact with their head of state.

Note that the referenced Article 103(1) provides for the petitioning of the president-elect, not the incumbent as purported by Article 104(3). Isn’t this a cross(mismatched) reference? I have struggled to wrap my mind around this, and ironically, I seem to be in the same boat as our revered prof Ndulo (refer to Ndulo’s last article on LT), particularly as it relates to the incumbent handing over power to the speaker in the initial ballot. Article 103 deals with outcome of, and events following second ballot. Second ballot simply means the ballot that comes following the nullification of the first ballot or failure to attain 50% + 1 threshold.
The first ballot dealt with under Article 101 while Article 102 deals with qualification to the second ballot.
104(3) referring to 103(1) simply contextualizes and restricts the matter to the second ballot.
As for the case which we had, it was under the first ballot, whose context is confined to Articles 101 & 102.
