Mayuka must justify likely recall

Saturday’s is red letter day for Emmanuel Mayuka as Zamalek takes on Mamelodi Sundowns in the final of the 2016 CAF Champions League.

Mayuka is one of two Zamban’s in Saturday’s first leg, final match at Lucas Moripe Stadium at Atteridgeville.

Kickoff of the game is at 15h00 and is live on SuperSport 4.

While it is expected that Sundowns and Zambia goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene will be on the bench, it is Mayuka’s contribution that will be of particular interest to Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda who hinted a fortnight ago that the striker was in his plans.

“It’s exciting to be here,” Mayuka told IOL after landing in Johannesburg with Zamalek on October 12.

“I have been through so many places. This is a new experience for me. I am just looking to play my part and help the team succeed.”

Mayuka has gone through the six group stage games in the 2016 Champions League out a goal after scoring five in the 2015/2016 Egyptian Premier League season for Zamalek with that last of those on May 7 in a 2-0 away win over Ghazl El Mehalla.

Moreover, Mayuka made just two Champions League group stage appearances off the bench in the Champions League in six outings with his last coming in on August 15 in a 1-0 home win over Enyimba of Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Premier League is already underway and in round four but Zamalek have played just one league match on September 29 in a 2-0 away win over Taadin.

Mayuka came on in the 80th minute with the Cairo side already cruising to victory.
