FAZ President Andrew Kamanga says an announcement over a new cup competition should be expected in 2017.

The league currently has one competitive cup competition in the Barclays Cup that entered its tenth season this year.

“Yes we are working around the clock to get more sponsors.I think Barclays have taken a lead and we want to encourage more corporates to come in and sponsor more cup competitions,” Kamanga said.

“I think in the next year there could be one or two announcements that will be made.”

Zesco on Saturday beat Zanaco 1-0 in the Barclays Cup final to collected an unprecedented fifth title, three more than Power Dynamos who are the second most successful team in the competition.

  1. Comment: Yes another cup/s needed for soccer to be more competitive. In the early 80’s we had cups like Colgate Champion of Champions,Rothmans Pall Mall,Heroes and Unity cup,Independence cup.We were having competitions were Copperbelt Select were playing against Midlands (Zambia A vs Zambia B). I would like FAZ & the GOVERNMENT to introduce the cup one way of honouring our fallen heroes who died in 1993 at the coast of Gabon, the tornament should start from lower divisions in all 10 Provinces, when the league finishes that would be the better time to start playing this cup,the stadium has been named even th cup (HEREOS CUP) in memory of those who died in plane crush final to be played in April, gate takings bereaved families to be given certain %

    • We need more money in the game in zed so that teams can build strong financial bases and revenue. We should monetize the game. The current sponsors should double the money also.

  3. These are archaic pedestrian ideas. Just leave FAZ you hopeless Kamanga. We are failing to qualify for anything since you arrived

  4. Why doesn’t FAZ focus on improving the country’s soccer infrastructure such as being able to televise a live soccer match? They can’t even dress the team with appropriate attire and you expect them to manage another cup competition? Just like Donald Trump, promises are made to get elected and then when it’s time to deliver, just excuses.
