Zambia and Tanzania plan to sign several ambitious agreements that aim at strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties as well as trade and investment cooperation between the two countries during the visit by President Edgar Lungu.

The envisaged agreements include the opening of a new route between Dar es Salaam and Lusaka by Air Tanzania.

President Lungu is expected to arrive in Tanzania on Sunday for a two-day state visit on an invitation by President John Magufuli.

President Lungu’s visit by the Zambia leader comes just a few days after the meeting of the recent session of a Joint Permanent Commission (JPC), the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Augustine Mahiga, told a media conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Ms Grace Mwijuma, said the recent JPC meeting agreed that the two countries should extend ties in other trade and investment sectors, insisting that Zambia was a strategic neighbour.

She noted that the two countries agreed to work together in the transport sector, immigration and prison departments, among others.

According to her, President Magufuli and President Lungu are on Monday expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in various trade and investment sectors.

“Our ministers are expected to sign an agreement on behalf of the two heads of state regarding collaboration in the aviation sector whereas Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) planes will establish a route between Dar es Salaam to Lusaka,” she said.

The envoy further said that the two leaders will sign another MoU on political and diplomatic consultations.
With that agreement, she said, leaders from both countries can meet anytime to deliberate on issues of diplomacy and politics when they arise.

On immigration and prison departments, Ms Mwijuma said there were several immigration issues that needed strong cooperation between Tanzania and Zambia, adding that the two countries have already agreed to look into the possibility of exchanging prisoners.

Tanzania and Zambia have also agreed to establish a simplified joint trade regime.

“We have many Tanzanian businesspeople in Zambia and also many Zambian businesspeople in Dar es Salaam. Therefore, we agreed that we extend our ties on this area,” said Ms Mwijuma, expressing optimism that President Lungu’s visit will be of greater advantage to the country.

    • ‘We’ needed Uganda to stay in office but now need to learn how to fight corruption and save tax payers’ money from selfish individuals.

    • Hashanah! This man just came from a foreign tour, now he is off to dar again,,,,, crazy! Zambia has no money to support all these trips!!!!!!

    • Sinkamba will beat up somebody over these trips. If Ba Edgar wants to be Minister of Foreign Affairs, he has chance to make changes now when his PF is in disarray.
I didn’t even know that the PF president is back in from, where was that he was with the Sahara desert ministers?

    • This is not news, just a desperate attempt to justify too many trips. Junior officers in the concerned ministries are the right people to make such trips.

Hope he learns a thing or two from Mugufuli, but this may conflict with lessons learnt from Mugabe and Museveni

    • What we need is the following, Mr President Sir on your return we beg of you to BAN THE USE OF LUXURY SUVs BY TOP GOVT OFFICIALS!
Its because I’m a true PF supporter that believes PF needs to be a party for the poor and not a party to enrich a few that I stress this point! Removing the luxury Suvs both for ministers and MPs will have a positive psychological effect in making these senior civil servants come down to earth and understand they are not bosses but servants hence the term civil servant!
Please I pray to God almighty, let this happen! Amen!

    • This , at least, is a more meaningful trip than the one he took to Equatorial Guinea. He had no business there in Guinea to benefit the Zambian people, except himself as a tourist. He needs to set his priorities right and remember that he has to remain in the country sometimes and do something worthwhile. Zambia is not a rich country for him to be flying all over the place, wasting our meager resources. Hopefully President Magufuli will teach him something about frugality. Otherwise he can stay there in Tanzania for good and we have Magufuli come over to be our president. Magufuli is doing a far better job than him.

    • @VISION2020. I feel sorry for you for voting for this corrupt empty suit. And if you think he’ll listen to you and take away those luxury SUVs from his ministers, then I have Victoria Falls to sell you. No sir, he’ll not listen to you, because he doesn’t care about the common Zambian on the street. But now, he’s all over the place making aimless flights, spending the country’s meager resources like a drunken sailor. We warned you before you voted for him. Remember he allowed his ministers to remain in office after the dissolution of parliament. They were getting salaries and allowances, and the ConCourt ruled against them and ordered them to pay back the money. I don’t think they’ve paid back to this day, and most likely will never pay back. And Lungu says nothing about it. So wake…

    • (Continued)… up sir. This guy played you like a banjo to his own benefit–and of course to the benefit of his minions too. And sorry I messed up your moniker. I just noticed it. Peace.

  1. Ka muntu aka always on move.
Why didn’t he just opt to be an ambassador, & he would be a perpetual visitor without raising an eyebrow.
    Useless Chairman Chagwa.

    • President John Magufuli would not spend two days in Zambia touring even when he visited two months ago for LAZY Lungu’s inauguration he barely stayed 24 hrs.

    • I think the biggest mistake LAZY Lungu’s grandma Bo Inonge made was making that announcement herself as she looks more fooolish…

    • Lungu should not be travelling. He should learn to delegate and save money. He also needs to learn to prioritze his work. How can you be travelling when there is a disaster of expired mankhwala ku MOH, kulibe ma light, etc

    • This Lazy Lungu has never worked for a corporation before he doesnt have the work ethic …the shiftless **** is not worth a quarter of his salary…he has no shame to be visiting President John Magufuli who has recently just fired the directors of their anti corruption agency.

    • Air Tanzania to establish routes! Wake up Lungu! Air Zambia should be establishing routes between Lusaka and Daresalum! It is embrassing that Zambia does not have an air line! Even Ruwanda has an airline!

  2. This is just too much from this coackroach. Does someone out there have doom to stray this coackroach in his face? Is he running away from the heat in the kitchen?

    • Yesterday the shiftless Bum was watching football at Hero’s stadium yet he had just returned from Guinea…today he is off again next door for two days…what a lazy bum not even worth paying half his salary as he is a useless empty tin!!

  3. The ZAF Challenger Pilots are working overtime flying this utterly LAZY Bum all over the continent, no sooner has the jet arrived from Guinea, its refueling again for Tanzania. This work shy Bum we call President will do anything to run away from paperwork in State House..its no wonder he couldn’t understand the constitution him being a lawyer…he is going to watch the no nonsense corruption fighter Magufuli working for two days whilst Lazy Lungu tours and dances around Tanzania.
I said it 3 years ago and I said 12 months ago that Edgar Lungu from Chawama is too LAZY, too indolent, work-shy, shiftless, loafing, inert, sluggish, lethargic, to lead a nation…you can take a donkey to a watering hole to drink but you can not force it to drink..this is LAZY LUNGU its not just in him to…

    • Ka JAY JAY. If u don’t like to see him fly for state visit go and drink doom or hug a Zesco Power line. Ni challenger jet ya nyoko??????
UPND people keep living in fantacy world! U will continue hating till death but the fact remains ECL is Zambia’s President whether u like it or not.

    • Yes, the Challenger belongs to my mother, your mother, sister, brother and great grand children…its the property of GRZ…its not a Chamwama Rhumba Nite bar for work shy Bones.

  4. UPND are so envious. They always look for negativity even where more positives exist. Remember how they condemned Late Sata for not visiting other countries.
Even if you make hate comments Edgar is your president and will be there till 2021 if not 2026.
Continue insulting. It will not hang the results. Viva Edgar. Just ignore these bitter fellows and do your job.

    • @John Chinena …surely do you have to a member of a silly opposition Party to detest LAZINESS and wasting Taxpayers funds…as I am typing the Minister of Finance has not got a clue on how his budget is going to balanced..he is thinking of ways of squeezing more from taxpayers and poor motorists via tollgates, tax etc….are PF members immune to this?

    • no 10, well said. he travels to represent the country according to bilateral protocols. haters will never learn to accept.

  5. Visionary magufuli is opening more Forex revenue for his country, apart from Tanzanian trucks that rake in millions of dollars by hauling Zambian good now he wants to add an airline to that.and our entire president has just gone to watch his friend work

    Bravo magulfuli

  6. Its too much. He needs to stay home and work. Where are the agricultural policies to transfer our economy? Where are the austerity measures on government spending?

    • AGRICULTURE is hard-work it requires strategic planning …its not as easy as constructing a road for a whooping $1million dollars/km via a loan. Its not for LAZY LAZY PEOPLE LIKE LUNGU.

  7. “Zambia and Tanzania plan to sign several ambitious agreements that aim at strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties…..”

The article states that Lazy Bone Lungu and President John Magufuli are signing several agreements but when you read the whole article there is only one agreement he is signing…really laughable…I feel for the State House Propaganda Team that is at pains to beef a schedule with invincible workload for a clearly LAZY BUM.

  8. Please god let this man stays there forever, in exechange give us Magufuli we can even top up Kambwili, Ba gogo, Mumbi Phiri and Frank Bwalya just to get Magufuli

  9. You would think the non-achiever Lungu will learn a thing or two from over-achiever Magufuli, but no, he will focus more on what he does best, drinking and dancing. With the state of the economy Zambia finds itself in a wise leader would cut down on these fruitless trips he is constantly organizing for himself that serves only to maximize his personal income. Unfortunately most Zambians don’t think this is a problem. I wonder what Magufuli and Lungu could possibly have in common to talk about.

    • President John Magufuli will be wondering why a resource rich country like Zambia with arable land is suffering and begging left right centre for loans. And why his friend is coming to visit him on a working day and overstaying for two days to drink and dance!!

  10. 2 Days just signing MOUs?? How long is Lusaka-Dar Flight that he can’t come back next day? Kulibe nchito mu office at state house?? Salary cut by 50%, then 3 foreign Trips in 2 weeks, kikikiki

  11. Why is is Lungutravelling out of the country again?!Too many foreign trips at the expense of tax payers. There are several problems at home he should be dealing with URGENTLY. Instead he is always on holiday abroad! There is a reason a President appoints ambassadors. Why did he not delegate the Zambian ambassador to Tanazania to sign the agreements, deals etc! The load shedding has reached a level that is not acceptable! The new hydro dam is yet to be completed and Lungu is relaxing on his foreign trips! If the dam was completed load shedding would cease . Why can Zesco LOOK into solar energy? These holidays that Lungu claims to be foreign trips are a waste of government resources. Lungu takes and entourage of over 50 staff including a photographer! The accommodation and flights for these…

    • And the worst thing about all this is that he leaves the workload behind with Grandma Inonge, who should be retired by now enjoying life with her grandchildren!!!

  12. The accommodation and flights for the 50 plus staff that accompany Lungu on his foreign trips -that are actually holidays is paid for by the government!

  13. The accommodation and flights for the 50 plus staff that accompany Lungu on his foreign trips -that are actually holidays is paid for by the government!

  14. If Edgar was a pilot he would the most experienced because he would have clocked a billion + hours
In the meantime load shedding is getting worse by the day
ZESCO stands for Zambians Enjoy Several Cut Outs

  15. Can the people of Zambia be told by authorities how much tax payers money has so far been spent on these trips?
Also if this continues why do we need a Minister of foreign affairs? Why not have p/s only

  16. THERE IS NOTHING to expect in these agreements with TANZANIANS! It is ALL FOR THEIR BENEFIT! They know they have ALOT OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT AND DRUG TRAFFICKING PRISONERS in Zambia so they want a way to GET THEM OUT! They know they ARE AGGRESSIVE AGAINST ZAMBIAN BUSINESSES IN THE OWN COUNTRY WHILE WE ARE NOT.They want to open a route for THEIR AIRLINE WHAT ARE WE GETTING IN RETURN? WHY is it that OUR PASSENGERS BUSES WHICH ARE OF A BETTER STANDARD CANNOT TAKE OUR PEOPLE TO DAR but are subjected to dangerous Tanzanian buses? WHY IS it that OUR CARGO to and from Dar is Transported by TANZANIAN TRUCKS? ALL THESE ARE DUE TO THE GREEDY OF TANZANIANS WHO BLOCK ZAMBIAN BUSINESSES!

  17. The original Air Tanzania which had bilateral and interline agreement with Zambia Airways operated flights between Dar es Salaam and Lusaka in the 1980s’ and 1990s’. Therefore to term that route as new is quite misleading as it existed before, it is just being reopened by the re-organised Air Tanzania Company Limited. It appears the declaration of Open Skies policy by the Government of Zambia is basically for the benefit of playing host to foreign Airlines, we are merely spectators in our own market and environment. The expansion of Lusaka International Airport is anticipated to attract more foreign carriers to Zambia, but already some carriers have ceased operating to Lusaka; British Airways is gone, KLM is gone, Lufthansa is gone, Air France is gone, Botswana Airways is gone.

    • Open Skies policy is a non starter as no African country has adhered to it as they are busy protecting their loss-making national airlines.

    • If he has a brain to pump sense into..This man appears to have stopped thinking..could it be one of the complications of his medical condition? GOD help us!, your people in Zambia have suffered enough from this senseless man.

  18. No wonder he was busy forcing ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain why he makes a lot of trips. He was preparing for departure of another trip

  19. Its really a shame that Zambia + Tanzania GDP combined is less than Angola’s GDP.
Its also a shame that the entire GDP of Nairobi or Lagos is larger than the entire GDP of Zambia.

Stay home Lungu and make our economic pie just as big and enviable as those of Kenya or Angola.

    • You do realise that Angola has off shore oil, Diamonds etc and Tanzania did not have any mineral resources until recently??

  20. The travelling president who can sort his country’s problem always on foreign trips. Why the Tanzanian president didnt come over. Have we become so poor that we now depend on Neighbors for foreign aid. Tomorrow he is going to Zimbabwe. I guess he is getting back his 50% he gave up. Just one trip he has recouped the 50%. Zambia soon will be the poorest nation in southern Africa. I cant blame the ministers, I blame Zambian’s because they dont know their rights.

  21. Magufuli is a clever man. This trip will just benefit the Tanzanians more. Fo-oli-sh Zambians always saying that no need for a national airline while Tanzanians like Rwandas are making business in Zambia. Many of my Zambians have useless brains because of kachasu

  22. LUNGU gets about $100,000 per foreign trip in allowances. So expect more trips while the country rots in it’s own faeces.
