HH urges graduates to venture into entrepreneurship

Opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has urged graduates to consider taking up entrepreneurship as opposed to being employees.

Mr Hichilema said this when he met a group of UNZA graduates he has been sponsoring at the university at his residence

“We spent some time on Tuesaday at our residence in Lusaka having lunch with some of the students that have just graduated from the University of Zambia. This is the group that is benefiting from our little support we have been giving to children from vulnerable homes. We are happy they successfully completed their studies,” Mr Hichilema said.

“We congratulated them for this achievement. As at the same time sympathise with them on the difficulty prospects and journey they now face of finding jobs in the country. We however encouraged them to consider going into private sector as entrepreneurs themselves as opposed to being employees. This way they will create jobs for others as long as the environment permits.”

He said the policies are very clear on encouraging young people to immediately consider starting their own companies where they can be employers themselves as opposed to looking for jobs.

“This is why our education policy is a two track system and have been advocating for curriculum overhaul to graduate students that are made for the current global economic system. This is captured in our manifesto and the ten-point plan therein,” Mr Hichilema said.

“We would also have encouraged them to set up small cooperatives and business entities which we could then finance and guarantee them markets in both government and parastatal organisations as well as negotiating good terms for them in private companies. This is how you absorb these energetic young men and women into the main economy.”

He added, “We as a family will now embark on a mentorship programme for some of these graduates and we call upon others to do the same so that we can help these fresh graduates to quickly find their feet and start contributing to Zambia’s development. And we would also like to call upon those with some resources to make them available to students that have been denied bursaries by a none functioning bursary system which clearly needs reform as it is saving the wrong group.”

    • I said HH is my nigga despite his shortcomings.

There more positive things to learn from this man than from my tribesmate.

Do ask me who my tribesmate is because you know him. He is our humble leader.

    • Thats my president right there!

HH is investing in people while chakolwa Lungu is busy stealing from them. Is that not a big shame on the illegal president.

  1. This is very good HH. I commend you for helping out vulnerable children and helping to get into entrepreneurship. Please continue on this path.

  2. That’s That’s the wise legal president of Zambia. Ah this man is amazing. Wise man

    • You will just throw this wise gesture by HH into ridicule if you start that NEZ. What Legal President. Look at my comment below.

    • NEZ do not spoil the good deeds with useless words. I have never supported HH but I thinks he makes a point here and he must be supported not as a politician but a Zambian who is trying to make a change. Please NEZ keep your cheap politicking away for a while. Yes if this gesture by HH, will win him political mileage let it grow organically. Well done bwana HH.

  3. we are also mentoring some to go into politics as a way to provide future leadership for the party and ensure that despite losing six times we can draw up a lessons learned strategy which can be used as a master plan for bringing businessmen like Trump or Barrow into state house.

    • You pf cader do you know what we call that in the business world, mentorship.

      That the legit presidente.

Mentor those boys and girls into powerful business moguls, unlike that one who has mentored max chongo into a gun-toting Pizarro.

  4. it is not how many times you fail but how many times you rise each time you fail…… I praise GOD because of what He has done to my life. I have failed so many times that God has helped me show my fallible nature. I need HIM.
Today , i dont laugh at anyone who fails several times.Equally, Jesus does not laugh at us each time we fail HIM by sinning.
In life never demean others or glory over their failures.
We all need each others as Zambians, and christians. Tell me of a christain who hate or hurt others? None …

  5. Zikomo aMwale! If there is any one person who personified China’s s rise (again) to the pinnacle of world economic activity it is the late great Deng Xiao Ping, a man who was persecuted repeatedly over more than 20 years before finally coming thru soon after chairman Mao’s death to lead China on a new path of development!
While the rest of course is history, the morale of the story is that HH or whosoever else feels that they can add value to Zed have the right to try over & over again, if that’s what it takes to help Zambia out of this pit of poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance & despair! Its his time to give…

  6. Wise words but where to start from??Even lawyers before they set up their own private firms require at least 5 years experience in industry.

  7. the bible says ” let the left hand not know what the right hand gives …… , give in secrecy as the rewards come from He who sees yo inner most”. giving is very good but it should not appear as an embarrassment on the students and their parents that failed to sponsor them. for me, the article should have been weighing more if it read ” Be Enterpreneurs ” – HH advised us, Sponsored Students.

    • @ Honest the rewards are in that the country now has graduates who for various background issues may not have gained an education! Personally and I think many others too did not know of this assistance given until this reported final courtesy paid by the graduates on HH. It is obvious and obligatory that HH whether he liked to or not had to say something in honor of the visit. The graduates had to thank HH for facilitating education and in turn HH had to thank them for utilizing the opportunity availed by working hard and graduating. His advice is part of releasing them to pursue their dreams now that they are armed with an education. I find the titling of the article apt and in no way embarrassing. However the report falls short on not sharing what the graduates addressed with HH. It…

  8. Zambia is very lucky to have HH as one of its Sons. HH has excellent Leadership skills and unfortunately the dunderheads are preventing him to serve at the highest level. Zambia is losing out by margilising HH politically. The Visionless and the Chipante Pante Family is busy destroying this country while HH is contributing towards capacity building at a personal level. HH understands what Corporate Social Responsibility is all about. Well done HH and may God Bless You. To give is to receive. Stay blessed HH and good luck in the High Court tumoro.

  9. Those who genuinely help other people do not show off. Not many of us knew HH was sponsoring vulnerable students at UNZA let alone he has built schools and clinics using his own resources. We haven’t seen this in Chawama where someone came from. It is because of this humbleness that most people ignorantly demanded to ‘sonta apo wabomba’ not knowing someone was working silently. They were busy pointing at things done using govt resources which was not fair. It would have been fair if someone was asked to sonta apo abomba using his own resources not govt resources.

  10. I don’t know why Zambians don’t utilize H.H.. This can develop the country. See the wisdom he has. If he is successful on his own what can stop him to develop the nation? As the spokesman for the chief, I want to deliver what the chief has advised the people of this country. He said that all Zambians must support H.H. not lungu who has no vision he was a poor man how can he develop the country? He has no plans he is busy stealing. Matako yako president!

  11. This once, kudos to HH. For once, he has been positive in encouraging young people to go into self employment. For once he has demonstrated leadership. I hope he continues on this path; no point being negative in life. Being successful in some areas doesn’t mean being successful in every area – there is no single human being who claim such blessings. I wish he could give up politics because it continues to paint him black because of the attitude he has potrayed.

  12. You’re only a show off
    with painted face
    but underneath that face
    you’re just a disgrace
You’re just a brand new second hand
    Take man fe *****…
    Brand new second hand
    You’re wicked…

  13. This country is wasting opportunity. We have a president in the name of H.H. but we are wasting time voting for people who have no muscle and stance like the current head of state, can you call Lungu a president? Ahhh this is the worst president in the history of this nation. We don’t want him as Ngonis and the paramount chief has vowed never to support this useless president.
