THE United Nations Population Fund Country Representative Mary Otieno has noted that Zambia had recorded 46 000 new HIV infections in 2016 and that ranked the country among the 10 countries with the highest number of people living with HIV.

Speaking when Dr Otieno handed over 250 condom dispensers to the National Aid Council for the distribution in provinces with the high HIV prevalence rate,
Dr Otieno hoped that the condoms can be used to mitigate sexually active people from HIV, STIs and pregnancy.

She said the organisation was concerned with the high prevalence rate and hoped the condoms and condom dispensers valued at
US$ 64,650 can address barriers hindering condom
access.

And speaking at the same event, National Aids Council Acting Director, John Mwale said that NAC is proposing a Total Market Approach to help distribute the subsidized, socially marketed and commercial condoms to ensure that they are readily available where the commodity is needed.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Health Representative, Dr. Wezi Kaonga said that in order to have a healthy nation, there is need to take health to a household level by empowering communities to take health as their own responsibility.

    • There’s nothing wrong with having good sex. Zambians just have to learn to have responsible sex. High poverty and alcolism levels have also been factors in the high rates of infections. Govt must also look to acquiring HIV prevention meds that are now on the market. Prevention is better than cure.

    • Top 10, you must be proud mwee. There should have been Ministry of Sex Affairs, instead of Ministry of Religious Affairs. How many Bibles can you dispense from $64,000?
I don’t even want to recall those daily sex with Zambian ladies, these days I even pray before I start what now I understand as making-love.

    • You are lazy Paul, not Zambians. This entire issue is above your low thinking. With such a mind set, there is nothing for you to understand but just yapping.

    • You are an *****. Can you compare us to the other fools… Look the others just sit and ride on our resources… They did this to our forefathers. All technology from Egypt to America is ours. We are very hard working but have been enslaved. the bible says it. We also don’t sleep with dogs like they do etc. You stupid man don’t even use the Paul Ngozi tag *****, STUPID MORONIC *****. You have a rotten skunk in your brains WECHUNGWAWE.

  1. Until politicians get actively involved in this fight, the HIV battle will never be won.. Most politicians are living with HIV and as such should understand it and be in a better position to fight it..

  2. Ba Zambia mulanyengwa sana without protection. Explains why stress and depressions are unheard of in the country. Xex is a good dis stressor.

  3. WE HAVE PEOPLE IN SENIOR GOVERNMENT POSITIONS INFECTING YOUNGER LADIES. AN EXAMPLE IS SOMEONE IN CHARGE OF SOCIAL SERVICES IN CHOMA AND HE IS INFECTING A LOT OF YOUNGER LADIES. HE MUST BE CAGED.

  4. Mushota, sex is God given and if done in a proper relationship it is a wonderful and lovely experience.

Your apprehension towards sex could be as a result of something that happened to you in the past. You need to seek for help.

Sex is good for your health too.

  5. And some pf cadres want to have us believe that zambia is now heaven on earth you silly nicompoops.mushota stop claiming you hate sex when you have no option to have it. Kikiki ububi

    • If a study was conducted on HIV stats in Parliament and the results released it would show 90 percent of UPND MPs as infected and 100 percent of the Southern UPND MPS as infected why? Because those chaps think with their pricks and not their brains. But don’t worry guys HIV is no longer the main cause of death its the BP and diabetes which abena Nez suffer from as a result of execssive depression and living in their own delusional dunderhead world. Sad but true.

    • Kiki and what disease does that useless drunk president of yours have when he faints with kunyu and has fits. Have you ever seen any upnd leader faint. Ukose because lungu is not making it to 2021 and cadre like you will have no source of income

    • Ba guyi Nez just worry about the clearly evident Kaposi Sarcoma on your uncle HH’s face don’t start dreaming about ECL’s good health.

  6. VJ: My President, What has gone wrong with our beloved country?
    RB: Nityani Mukwesu.
VJ: We seem to be in the news for just bad reasons.
RB: It all started with our generation.

  7. @ Matokwani – You say ‘someone from social services (how ironic) is infecting a lot of younger ladies. He must be caged’. Without devaluing the issue of social vulnerability, I should ask; Don’t these ladies have a sense of shared responsibility? Do they lie there innocently as sheep to the slaughter? This is in a working place, not to do with vulnerable girls in a high school. For most adults in sane responsible positions, ‘it takes two to tangle’.

  8. Zambians will believe anything a foreigner tells them especially if it’s Bazungu. You’re very brainwashed stupid people.

  9. Do not believe that prevalence rate statistic! Zambia is nowhere in the top ten! You will be shocked to know the disease prevalence rate in some of these so called developed country! They never release infection rates for their respective countries and if they do, the data is always watered down!

  10. Comment: timely statistics but I feel it is biased n not helping us as Zambians.does that mean all efforts done upto date are all in vain?. wat we need to know is were are we on terms of fight against HIV. wat is the latest ratio of infected to non infected persons in the country. Have we attained our goals to reduce infection rate? if not how far are we from that? How far with the experiments on the sondashi formula? could it be the alternative? is it something we can bank our hopes on?

  11. We are always in denial. We deny everything, poverty, unemployment, abuse of human rights, poor leadership, vote rigging, everything. What more with HIV and sexual immorality. Women had PF printed on their buttocks and dancing dununa promoting sexual imorality in the name of campaign. something is wrong. Young girls are forced to sleep around due to poverty and ignorance.
