Zambian President Edgar Lungu hosted a high-level Breakfast meeting on the implementation of the Common African Position (CAP) on ending child marriage in Africa in collaboration with the African Union (AU) Commission.
The event was on the side-lines of the 28th AU summit in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa in line with the 2017 AU theme “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth.
Child marriage is a violation of human rights, but is all too common.
Marriage before the age of 18 is a fundamental violation of human rights. Many factors interact to place a girl at risk of marriage, including poverty, the perception that marriage will provide ‘protection’, family honour, social norms, customary or religious laws that condone the practice, an inadequate legislative framework and the state of a country’s civil registration system.
Child marriage often compromises a girl’s development by resulting in early pregnancy and social isolation, interrupting her schooling, limiting her opportunities for career and vocational advancement and placing her at increased risk of domestic violence. Child marriage also affects boys, but to a lesser degree than girls.

Child marriage, child labor are all issues in Zambia. What needs to happen is impose 2 child rule per person.
So what if they discuss this how is it addressing the issue in Chiwempala, in Shangombo in Nakonde …. tell me how ? where is the operationalization of these solutions ???? Kukamba kamba chabe and the magnitude of the problem meanwhile keeps growing

It would be more effective if victims of child marriage were invited to the BREAKFAST. This world is crazy. People eat and get fat meeting in plush hotels to end the suffering of people who have never seen caviar! They drive $150,000 cars but will not pay for free education of 10,000 children in their countries. They fly first class from one city to another, spending millions of dollars, but will not spend a cent to provide clean drinking water for their people in the villages. Ba mampara!

Everywhere now its about girl child and the way its going women should now start proposing men for the sake of equal rights and if not then what God says about a woman will never be hijacked by human thinking. However, with issues of early marriages unless the marriage is by force but if all parties including parents from both sides consents and agree I dont think there is a problem. After all there is a command to fill the earth.

What Human Rights does illegitimate Lungu know and understand? Under Lungu’s watch Media Houses have been closed, the Right to belong to a Party of one’s choice has been violated, the Right to Petition in Court has been blocked by Lungu, the Right to be heard has been violated etc. Illegitimate Lungu has illegally and unconstitutionally inaugurated. Lungu knows nothing about children’s rights. Ecowas must teach Lungu about Constitutionalism and Transfer of Power. Until the Petition is heard and disposed off Lungu will remain illegitimate and isolated from the International Community.
There’s no such thing as chil marriage. Look what used to happen in the Bible and how God views a child. When a girl is born, she is a child until she starts having her period. When that happens, she is not a child but a virgin. That’s why the mother of Jesus is referred to as a virgin, and not a child although she was only 12 years old. So marrying a 13 year old who has started having period is not marrying a child but a virgin.
They should enact a law that will stop marriages before the age of 18.That’s the only solution or else…..people will continue speaking at high-level international meetings like these for which they are paid a lot of money while on the other side teenagers are falling pregnant out there.
