Two expectant mothers die with their unborn babies in Kembe constituency

Chaloshi Ward Councilor, Christabel Kalasa in Kembe Constituency in Chibombo District in Central Province has called on government to provide the health center in her ward an ambulance to ease Health service delivery.

Ms Kalasa says there is need for government to provide an ambulance to the area so as to avoid casualties such as the recorded two maternal deaths which occurred last month.

ZANIS records that the area Councilor, said had there been an ambulance at Twalumba Health post to Liteta Hospital the untimely deaths of the expectant mothers and their unborn babies would have been avoided.

Ms. kalasa said in a telephone interview today that pregnant women also delay to go for antenatal services.

The civic leader has also bemoaned the lack of medical facilities at the health post.

She however, expressed happiness that donors from Belgium she did not name have come on board tand have started constructing a new maternity ward which she said is nearing completion with only ten percent of the works remaining.

Meanwhile, Ms Kalasa has disclosed that the community will soon hold a fundraising dinner next month on 11 March to raise money towards the completion the maternity ward.

The civic leader has since called on stakeholders in Chibombo district in particular and country at large to come on board in the provision of quality health services to the people.

She said improving the health sector cannot be left to government alone but from all concerned stakeholders.

  1. So sad to lose these two mothers. Let the authorities in charge study the situation and act accordingly to prevent further loss of life. To the Beligian Doctors trying to help, you are the real friends of Zambians and may God bless you.

  2. And just to add more on this issue as much as I am pro PF, I have always spoken against misallocation of govt funds the major culprit being the use of utterly useless and wasteful Luxury SUVs which only boost the vanity of govt officials! Had the funds going into over K1million for only 2 of those latest Hilux or Landcruiser vehicles my govt spends instead been used to construct a maternity ward we could prevent such cases. Let lessons be learnt let’s use the funds wisely- remove govt officers that are non perfomers and cut on expenditure of useless things, we need to work!

  3. Very sad day. Imwe sure in 2017 we are losing pregnant mothers due to lack of provision of basic medical facilities. I yell you pf have blood on their hands. Pf has failed you people while they continue to fly around and own over 250 flats. Wake up Zambians abs demand for what is right. Lungu is a preek

  4. the resources Lungu is using to gallivant around the world could have been used to provide for these poor people. Rise up people Rise and demand justice

  5. Very sad news to lose two pregnant mothers and not just two but four lives have being lost. My condolences to families, do something quick about this please please.
