A one YEAR and nine months old baby has died on the spot after he was run over by a truck loaded with copper in Shiwangàndu district of Muchinga Province.
ZANIS reports that both Both Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Godwin Phiri and Shiwangàndu District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa confirmed the incident in separate interviews, today.
Mr. Phiri says the incident happened when driver of DAF truck registration number T939CUG with horse registration number T79BBC a Tanzanian Khalfan Chambo aged 25 run over a male juvenile Eustus Sichitalwe while he was playing under the truck when it was parked.
He adds that the child who died on the spot after the accident sustained fatal head injuries while the vehicle had no damages.
The Police Commissioner said that Driver of the said vehicle has since been detained at Shiwangàndu Police Station while the vehicle has been impounded.
And Shiwangàndu District Commissioner Evelyn Kangwa said that the accident happened on Thursday around 08:30hrs at the market square were the mother of the deceased child was selling.
Ms. Kangwa said that the juvenile accident victim has since been buried.

This is senselessly careless on the part of parents and indeed, the local authorities in the area. Just how do you allow heavy trucks laden with such cargo anywhere and near residential areas? As a parent, grand parent myself l am shattered to learn of such demise of an innocent child. It’s simply too much to bear….
The Parent should equally be detained for negligence of a toddler at the market. The driver is really a victim of circumstances. My condolences
It is sad to lose such a young soul..it seems under pf crimes are the order of the day. Only the poor will suffer and face consequence for crimes. As long as you are a pf sympathiser you can get away with murder like kaizer
My condolences, here the mother should take the blame because the truck was packed so the driver of the truck can not know who is under it as he dose not expect anyone under it especially that it was at the market its a trading area.
