United Party for National Development (UPND)President Hakainde Hichilema says he would have loved to celebrate his birthday with family and thanking God.
Mr. Hichilema says he could not celebrate his 55th birthday owing to human circumstances that prevented his joyous day.
He says regardless of the bad situation, he has found strength in being among other citizens currently in the very difficult situation that exists in prisons and detention facilities.
Mr Hichilema noted that the circumstances are trying for individuals detained for purely political reasons in Chimbokaila and in other prisons around the country.
“Some do not have the privilege I enjoy of having so many citizens remembering me, but remember them constantly too. This birthday is dedicated to them,” said Hichilema.
“Ours is a fight for a just society and systems where all our citizens will be able to freely express themselves and participate in the politics and economy of our beloved country without facing reprisals from the state”.
He said he will emerge with more vigour to lead and unite our deeply divided and hurting nation and restore our pride as a country” he said.
And Mr. Hichilema encouraged his wife Mutinta Hichilema to be strong in this trying moment.
“To my dear wife, Mutinta, and family, I say stay strong and thank you for your continued support.Heartfelt thanks to the wider UPND family and the nation at large too,”said Hichilema
