Opposition UPND Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba along with his wife Chama and Chief Mukuni and Chief Hamusonde were on Saturday afternoon barred from visiting Hakainde Hichilema at Kabwe’s Mukobeko Maximum Prison.
Mr Mwamba confirmed that prison authorities refused them entry into the main prison building even after having been cleared.
“Colleagues this afternoon the Royal Hignesses Chief Mukuni and his wife, Chief Hamusonde, my wife Chama and myself have been to Mukobeko Maximum prison in Kabwe to visit our brother and President HH and his co accused. As expected we were not allowed to go beyond the main gate despite having been cleared,” Mr Bwalya said.
He said this happened after some instruction from somewhere.
“The Commissioner of Police, Central province was seen entering the facility at high speed to deliver the instruction. Purely this shows that the show is being run by state house and police and not Correctional Services,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Hichilema’s wife Mutinta visited her husband yesterday at Mukobeko Prison.
Mrs Hichilema managed to take food to her husband who has disclosed that he was brutally beaten and airlifted like a bandit by heavily armed state police from Chimbokaila prison in Lusaka.
Mr Hichilema remains at Mukobeko maximum prison awaiting trial for treason.
All the great leaders in the world were once arrested. KK, Mandela, etc., it’s part of politics. If M. C. SATA was alive, maybe Rupiah Banda could have been in prison for corruption, who knows? Similarly, ECL can be a leader today, but his immunity can be removed and be arrested. Leaders can be arrested before or after they vacate the office. So although I’m not a member of any Party, my advice to UPND is that, HH is going through a process. Growing to be a great Leader is not a small matter. One day he’ll be a Leader of the country and he’ll look back to this time and be grateful for the experience.
He deserves no visitors.
What is the point of visiting a person that is unlikely to ever come out if my reliable sources are anything to to go by ?

You don’t just go to mukobeko to visit an inmate on any day you feel like. There are specific days for visitations. For convicts it’s Sundays only while remandees like Hakainde it’s Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This has been the practice and upnd members should just take note of those days, simple. Only his lawyers and the wife will be free to visit him on any day
