Nkana derby slayer Phiri toasts Power’s victory

Sports Nkana derby slayer Phiri toasts Power's victory

Power Dynamos striker Martin Phiri has described the feeling of propelling his side to victory in the big Kitwe derby against Nkana as awesome.

Phiri registered a brace as Power fought back to edge arch rivals Nkana 2-1 in Saturday’s Week 12 match of the FAZ Super Division played at Nkana Stadium.

“It means a lot to score in the derby. I scored two goals against Nkana for the first time in my career and that’s awesome,” Phiri said in a post-match interview.

The ex-Green Eagles forward has now scored three goals in the 12-match old 2017 season.

“Scoring twice yesterday will motivate me to score even more goals this season. The two goals have also sent a message to my critics,” Phiri said.

He added that Power sweated to overcome Nkana away in Wusakile.

“The game was tough but we worked had to come from behind to equalize and win.”

“We fought hard as a team. It was a sweet victory I tell you,” Phiri said.

The win pushed coach Dan Kabwe’s Arthur Davies club to the top of the table with 20 points after 12 matches played.
