Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Deputy National Secretary Antonio Mwanza has charged that it was clear from the beginning that the treason charges against UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema were trumped up and meant to punish and eliminate him from the political scene.

Mwanza stressed that Hichilema did not deserve to undergo the dehumanising treatment and warned that all those behind his incarceration will one day be accountable.

He has urged the PF to stop using state institutions to sort out their political opponents adding that it was immoral, evil, and backward.

Hichilema and five others were brutally arrested in April and charged with a fake charge of treason.

Among the trumped up charges was that on 5th and 8th April 2017, Mr. Hichilema and his co-accused conspired to usurp state power by according the UPND leader a status of the republican President in Western Province after he was received by huge crowds at the Kuomboka ceremony.

In the 2nd overt act, it was alleged that the suspects blocked the motorcade of Republican President in Western province, a move that would have endangered the life of the Head of state.

But during cross examination in a case where the police Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja sued Chilufya Tayali, Kanganja admitted that Hichilema had been cleared by the police to be on the road but Edgar Lungu’s motorcade later followed behind.

  1. PF, you persecuted an innocent man and your foolishness has been laid bare for all to see.

Our Zambia does not belong to you alone. It is a collective enterprise in which we ALL have a stake and should ALL have a voice.

You can muzzle the press, send buju to opposition strongholds, but cannot take away our right to be heard! The fact remains that votes were stolen.

    Forward Chabe!

    • Maybe Mumbi Phiri has delivered on her promise and done Zambia a HUGE FAVOUR!

But on the other hand, she is PF and we all know PF “promises” are just ubufi!

  2. Tramped up charges or not, HH needed to sober up, otherwise he was taking (his follower are still) the country into civil war. I hope his followers will sober up to avoid mayhem should PF cadres declare enough is enough.

  3. HH did not want to be released. The nolle has done a big bow to HH. You see HH now has to face the financiers because time to pay back the millions of US Dollars he borrowed for campaigns lapsed. HH now has to face his supporters who want the convention. You think he is happy? big NO dreaming UPNDonkeys.

  5. @Ken don’t worry about the finances. We supporters are here to pay to see a Zambia with a better justice system and democracy.

We did not need a nolle. Our institutions remain vulnerable and broken by the Con Court. We need to fix these not the opposition.

  6. Mwanza should learn to be mature and as a someone who claims to know God should preach peace. The release of HH came up after the Bishops, Secretary to the Commonwealth and Obasanjo negotiated for a peaceful resolution of the differences between the two leaders, and I believe this is for the good of the nation. This is not the time to start looking at who was wrong or right, but to to strengthen the unity that we all need in the country.

  7. Young Donkey Antonio, you honestly think the treason was trumped up? Anyway, as the English would say, the end justifies the means. Remember that the US dropped a nuke bomb on Hiroshima and that ended the war. Not supporting that dreadful day but it did end an escalating war. In this case the treason case was the nuke bomb, see how far Underfive can continue his previous fights now.

  9. But what he did and those insults were very shameful. If I were him I would not walk with my head high. It must have shocked the internationalcommuity he always runs to.He is not presidential material, am sorry to say.

  10. Ofcourse he (HH) is using a political Language. But the truth is that he now knows where the boundary begins, which lines not to cross and who is the head of state. The knowldge of all these things makes you strong indeed. Knowledge is strength indeed. Welcome home HH we need you as a stronger, mature member of the opposition.
