Transport Minister Brian Mushimba
Communications and Transport Minister Brian Mushimba says the ministry has concluded consultations on the establishment of a National Airline.

Mr. Mushimba says the ministry will soon share the outcome with the Ministry of Finance and table it to cabinet.

The Minister says the program to establish an airline has taken long because government wants to come with the best airline.

Mr. Mushimba was speaking in an interview with Tv2 News in Lusaka.

Mr. Mushimba says government has invested heavily in all forms of Transport as it is critical in the diversification of the economy.

He has further urged Zambians to be proud of the various investments that government has undertaken.

    • Everytime PF yaps, the opposite is true!

This Mushimba is in PF slumber party~as usual stuff, its the PF short legged lies just like the way Mukanga yapped about this so called~PFation PFirline.

Since when did PF start consulting stakeholders apart from removing Zambia out of ICC membership? What PF banditry “outcome” can they share with ministry of finance for cabinets approval?

From which budget is Mushimba yapping about when this was Mukanga’s song? This is dununa reverse order.
Where is the K30 mealie meal of 25kg, K5/ltr Saudi fuel, Jonathan’s 1million jobs & 13,000 jobs on Kavindele’s north east railway project that never started in January 2017?

Whats for the 4,700 miners who have just been fired yesterday from Mopani?

Believe PF’s yapping about tick tock at…

    • No this is a bd move! That money could better be spent on improving Prison conditions and building more schools! Even our national broadcaster ZNBC continues to be an embarrassment! The main news is supposed to start at 19hrs not 19.02 or 19.03 what is wrong with people kanshi? if that is a reflection of how we work in the government then we are facing doom as it shows lack of coordination and lack of commitment! National airlines in economies much stronger than ours are facing problems- Hong Kong with Cathy Pacific and South Africa with SAA why should we create more problems? It can only work by selling the remaining tangible and intangible assets of Zambia Airways to a private entity so that the state retains a share as is the case with ZCCM IH!

    • I believe him.

Why not – we are a better country than Kenya who have the best African airline.

He believes it and any sane person does.

      Thanks

    • ….iwe ka Mushimba, so you ordered those planes from Russia before you’re done with consultations? If the ministry of finance says it’s a bad idea, what becomes of the planes you’ve ordered from Russia?

    • Young Mushimba has failed Zambians and President Lungu. As a Diaspora product, he should have been the long missing link for the country to tap into the much needed highly skilled expertise to help arrest the hemorrhage in the country across domains. Alas, the sooner he got a job all he has come to know is cutting deals with Chinese at the expense of Zambians. He has fallen in the same trap of Lucky Mulusa. He remember Diaspora after being useless to the administration in due course. Watch this space since he not even an active politicians.

    • Do they drink or take it intravenously? Repeating the same mistake. UNIP started Zambia Airways without spending a penny. It just grabbed the airline that was already there and made a mess of it. Where are British Caledonian, Panamerican, British Rail, UBZ etc? Leave the transport sector to private hands.
Stop smoking before you make pronouncements which you later retract.

    • He has actually just learnt that the deal with the Russians was already Sealed and now has to quickly formalize the process after he had initially indicated ignorance on the issue. So the trick is to order the Russian planes that will be mixed up with the Mahogany Airline orders, in which Humbly Dumbly has shares, and they will come in Tax Free under the pretext that they are government planes. Bakali ama guys aba!

    • We are waiting to See Brian, How the hell you invest on Russian planes just because you guys got a cut out of it? Ministers ordering aircrafts and airline equipment?? What will the CEO of the Airline do then? It’s a shame that they are repeating the same mistakes.

    • They just want commission$$$ got from buying the aeroplanes. They know very well that when UPND forms government, it will end up selling the aeroplanes bought using kaloba in order to stop spending millions of dollars bailing the company off every two to five years like South Africa. Meanwhile, they have made their money already and are using British Airways to go for holiday, thanks to the deal of buying planes.

    • ZAMBIA CAN AND WILL TRULY HAVE THE BEST AIRLINE IN THE REGION AND ONE OF THE BEST AIRLINES IN THE WORLD. THIS IS TRUE BECAUSE ZAMBIA AIRWAYS WAS BY THEN THE BEST AIRLINE IN THE REGION INCLUDING SOUTH AFRICA AND THIS CAN BE REPEATED AND EVEN BE BETTER MANY FOLDS. SINCE QZ FOLDED UP,TECHNOLOGY HAS IMPROVED SO MUCH AND THE TECHNOLOGICAL IMPROVEMENT WILL BY AND LARGE IMPROVE THE OVERALL AIRLINE MAINTENANCE, SERVICE AND LOGISTICS. HOWEVER, THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTION TO BEING THE BEST AIRLINE WILL COME FROM THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE STATE-OF-THE-ART REGIONAL AIRCRAFT MAINTENCE HUB AT THE GREEN FIELD NEW COPPERBELT AIRPORT OR ALTERNATIVELY AT KK INT’L AIRPORT. THE SECOND FACTOR TO ACHIEVING BEST AIRLINE IS THE CHOICE OF NEW ROUES IN THE CONTEXT OF TOURISM, INDUSTRIALISATION, AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE…

    • THE SECOND FACTOR TO ACHIEVING BEST AIRLINE IS THE CHOICE OF NEW ROUES IN THE CONTEXT OF TOURISM, INDUSTRIALISATION, AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE AND FOOD PROCESSING AND THEIR EXPORTS TO OTHER COUNTRIES, THE PACKAGING OF TOURISM PRODUCTS AND THE REALISATION OF EFFECTIVELY EFFICIENT ROAD, AIR AND WATER TRANSPORT. THE ABOVE MENTIONED THINGS AND OTHER I HAVEN’T DUE TO TIME AND SPACE WILL MAKE QZ ONE OF THE BEST AIRLINES NOT ONLY IN AFRICA BUT IN THE WORLD.

IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT YOU ARE JUST ONE WHO LACKS SELF PRIDE AND JUST A PROPHET OF DOOM. COME ON PF GOVERNMENT- BRING THE NATIONAL FLAG CARRIER ON. MOST OF US ARE IN FULL SUPPORT OF THIS REALITY.

  1. This is really not a good idea. Government can not run businesses because of political influence. Look at the ZAMTEL, Zambia Railways see we are running them & don’t forget TAZARA. I have no problem having a Zambian airline but we need this in private hands. Also reduce fees and licence for local air businesses so that them too can pass the savings to customers. We need to encourage competition in this sector so that many Zambians can fly within Zambia. So many accidents on Zambian roads we can have air transport as an alternative.
Please don’t go for the idea. Besides look at South African airway it is struggling.

    • My sentiments exactly. Better yet we have enough debt already. Government has invested, but the current transport network needs fixing.

    • We will leave this airline for PF cadres and civil servants only, as it will be manned exclusively by Bembas and Wakos.

    • Don’t worry, these PF are just jokers, this Airline thing will never take off. If it does, all the employees will be PF Cadres and sooner than later the whole thing will just crumple to a halt.

    • Compare number number of Russian planes that have crashed to those that are made in the USA/Europe.But you fly on Brazilian made planes

    • You do not hear of Russian plane crashes because they are never investigated. A Russian plane killed the Polish President. Another Russian plane crashed into a Kinshasa market a few years ago. Another one killed a whole Russian military band going to Syria this year. But because they are never investigated and reported on, we will never know the causes.

  2. Does Zambia have the best regional supermarket chain? How about best mobile phone network? Best ICT hub? If we’ve failed all the above Mr Mushimba then i’d like to know what beer you’re taking.

  3. Bwana minisrer. If you tell me that its more expensive to fly around Government officials and ministers than owning an airline then you analysis makes sense otherwise this is a disaster of a century. South African airways is struggling and many more airlines. Why not just leave it to the experts with big cash to invest.

    • Always PF best this and that on tv and radio on ground only starvation mealie meal was k37 when you took over a fairly functional economy it’s nowk80 average do you chaps have feelings for the suffering majority. You are a shame to our country.

  4. If Africa’s number one economy, South Africa’s national air carrier is struggling what about us with such a…….I don’t even know the appropriate word to use. The questions we should be asking ourselves are: Are we able to sustain this national airline? Do we have the capacity to run it on our own? We certainly need an international partner to run this airline

  5. since this issue seems irreversible, i would urge the people who will be in charge not to tolerate purchasing its products on credit. Deal on cash basis and make the fares affordable to the locals so that you have high loads on all routes you will introduce. Domestic routes will be idea for a start.

  6. Mushimba has no idea what he is talking about. They have failed to revive and improve the rail system and what makes him think they can run an airline. To reduce fatalities on the roads, we ought to improve the design of our roads. The airline is being created for the few priviledged, while the many that cannot afford to fly will still stand by the roadside waiting to hitch a ride. Another bad government decision…

  7. Imagine they have bought the russian planes and THEN formulate a plab to have a national airline in a matter of months. Great Zambian brains at work.

  8. It’s disheartening to see people vehemently object to development. Everything is bad. Conversion of Lusaka into smart city is bad; building hospitals & schools is bad; building roads & new infrastructure is bad; establishing national airline is bad; etc. What kind of ungrateful people have we become? A landlocked country like Zambia needs an airline. There are currently about 3000 tourists arriving in Zambia everyday. This compares to about 6000 in Zimbabwe, Botswana & Tanzania with own national air lines. The benefits in USD receipts from new infrastructure far outstrip option of doing nothing & hoping things will improve. God Bless Zambia

    • Walanda.Fyonse kutalika.
In fact Zambia Airways had more assets when it was liquidated! The decision was political!(SAP)

    • chosen one; the ideas are good but the running of these things is always poor. during the UNIP era Zambia airways failed because the planes were always full of minister s children; wives and relatives and friends going to London for free for shopping. look at the railways look at the roads by now there should be a dual carriageway from Chililabombwe to Livingstone. bad track records.

    • The chosen one

3000 tourists per day arriving in Zambia ???

That is about 18 jumbo jets landing per day ??

Are you on drugs ? Can you tell us how you arrived st this number ??

    • Less than 600 pax arrive by plane daily. SA arrivals by plane according to SA tourism is 3500 pax day so Zambia is just behind them don’t think so

    • All, this is simple arithmetic calculation. Go to any website that reports international arrivals & you will see that by 2015 Zambia is averaging about 1m tourist arrivals per year. Divide this # by 12 & it gives you about 83,333 as a monthly #. To get a daily # divide 83,333 by 30 to give you about 2,778 per day. Numbers don’t lie & we can do better if we had direct flights to our country from major hubs with a properly run airline. God Bless Zambia

  9. Minister of transport , can you update us on the state of the railways, cargo and passenger numbers and timetables and renenue flows before you start this airline pleas. ..??

  10. Zambia will have rhe best airline,,how many dreamliners are we buying.. gee we will be able to show emirates, etihad, qatar, qantas, cathay pacific malaysia singapore how to improve their finances. Minister you are treating pipo wth contempt

  11. Easier said than done. There is only one national airline in Africa that can be said to be the pride of its nation – Ethiopian Airlines. And there is a good reason for that. Ethiopian Airlines operates almost wholly independent of government interference. They raise their own money, buy planes and manage the airline’s operations as though privately owned. For that reason, Ethiopian Airlines is both competitive and profitable. The former Zambia Airways dropped out of the sky because it had unofficially become the Zambian government’s Air Force One – free flights and free shopping sprees by those in power and their families. It is the Zambian story. That is our story.

  12. We wait and see. You have the mandate but you’re still accountable. The decision has already been made and the planes ordered, there is no going back. What we can do is to hold these guys accountable to the last ngwee. There is aviation industry is profitable on the whole. Geneva – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that it expects the global airline industry to make a net profit in 2017 of $29.8 billion. Source: IATA. If we play our cards RIGHT WE MIGHT JUST PULL IT OFF. Failure is not an option in this venture as the capital investment is not a drop in the ocean. If not well planned it will drain our already meager coffers. The best the govt can do is to incorporate a company that will be run by professionals independent of govt interference. The initial…

  13. Ethiopia has the best air lines in Africa , Zambia can do the same.
No one ever dreamed that man fly in the air.
Any one who doesn’t dream will do nothing for his life .
Zambia has great potential to do the best in airline business, since it is the hub of southern Africa; with the past experience of failure Will help us put into place measures to operate more efficiently .
    Zambia go go

    • Zambia has the potential of becoming an electricity exporter in Africa even though ZESCO is not managing well because of interference by the government. First, Zambia should build power energy for export and local use before jumping to buy air lines. Now, it would be useful for Zambia to build an oil pipe line from Cabinda Angola to Ndola than buy air liners. By doing that Zambia would serves lots and lost of money and can become oil refined and by products exporter in the region. Nigeria is the 6th producer of oil in the world, but has no oil refinery.

  14. Nothing wrong to set your goals high! Don’t listen to vision-killers! Their Under Five Card has never been a councilor, a ward chairman, an MP, a minister or served the people but the delusional supporters think he is a great leader! Yes, a great leader in Namwala and privatization funds thief!

    • Sharon, ignorance is as dangerous as HIV Aids. HH never privatized any company. The Company he worked for – Coopers and Lybrand or Grant Thornton were the Consultants. He was only the Managing Partner of these companies but not the owner.

  15. it’s good development if well structured…
lets help & support ths tyme around… optimism is good for progress..& constructive ideas…welcome

  16. People am worried about National debt, the Arabs, Emiratis, the Qatar group, have financed their airlines from tones and tones of money that they amassed in the times oil was booming. Remember they only have oil, and that wealth they have used to diversify their dependence into tourism and the rest you can spot them in Europe spending on sports and consumer entertainment.
Why don’t we invest in Agriculture, Tourism and diversify our economy? If an airline is a means to that goal for tourism, then its fine but remember, unless we make Zambia as a flight hub, good roads to tourists resorts and the like then we will not reap the benefits of a national airline.

  17. Not under PF thugs, this will not go anywhere?? It is even laughable from the word go, because there is confusion on procurement already. This airline will be a danger to public safety.

  18. Its a waste of time & resources to have a National Airline if we cannot maintain and run profitably Zambia Railways, ZAMTEL, ZESCO, TAZARA & the hopeless Zambia Postal Services. It takes between 3 months to 1 year and 2 months to receive a post card or express parcel sent from outside Zambia. In some cases parcels get lost. This is not funny, it is true. It has happened to me more than 5 times. last year in September I sent a bunch of birth day cards, smart phone, charger and some other small electronic goods, the parcel has not been received up date. Instead of buying Airline, the money should be used on improving how to run state corporations and tourism effectively and profitably. It is unbelievable that the Ndola-Luanshya rail line has been stolen.

  19. My dear Minister,
Lets take one thing for granted. We all Zambians are thieves. I have seen so many airlines in Zambia being stolen. And moreover, Airlines business is 90% safety and 10% business. How do you think you aregoing to handle safety aspect with Zambians who are most of the times drunk and womanising? Who will ride that airline? Not me…..

  20. I travelled on Aeroflot (Russian Airlines) once from London to Moscow…. never again !!! Safety issues …Good luck Zambia !! Dream on !!

  21. Throughout the awesome design of things you actually secure a B- with regard to effort. Exactly where you actually lost us ended up being on all the specifics. As people say, the devil is in the details… And that couldn’t be much more correct right here. Having said that, allow me say to you exactly what did deliver the results. Your authoring is actually incredibly convincing which is probably the reason why I am making an effort to opine. I do not make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, despite the fact that I can see the jumps in logic you make, I am not necessarily sure of exactly how you seem to connect the ideas which produce the actual final result. For right now I will, no doubt subscribe to your point however hope in the near future you connect your dots much better…
