ZICTA calls for more players in IT

Share

Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) is inviting more business players to explore the mobile service market so as to enhance quality of services.

ZICTA Corporate Communications Manager Ngabo Nankonde says more business players mean more competition and hence service providers will be compelled to deliver good services.

ZANIS reports Ms. Nankonde saying in an interview today that increased participation by the players will in turn be advantageous to consumers.

She however, said the regulator is being cautious to ensure only business players who are up to the task are allowed on the market.

“We don’t want a situation where we open the market to business players who will shut down their companies after three months of operation. We won’t allow anyone to come on the market anyhow,” she stated.

And Ms. Nankonde said ZICTA is doing inspections to check the quality performance of service providers, compliance to the set regulations among others.

She also urged consumers to demand for good services from service providers.

“We urge consumers to dial the ZICTA Consumer Protection Line;7070 (on all networks) for complaints. However, you have to start with the service provider so that they give you a reference number which you present to us,” she said.

She added that the regulator only deals with issues service providers take long to respond to.

  1. We are a country that talks too much without will and character of transforming the motherland. We frustrate serious initiatives that come without inducements. How many initiatives from world industrial Giants directly or indirectly through their front vehicles have come knocking to deliver some leapforward investments only to be frustrated? They end up appetite and investing in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon and South Africa.

    • The Zambian syndrome of Foreign being best should stop. These are institutions that block native Zambians and give such projects / initiatives to Indians because of corruption. If you are inviting more players, make I clear that Zambians will be given first preference because all including ZDA, just talk but block Zambians. It’s shameful and very disappointing because a foreigner will never have the interest to develop our country. It’s we Zambians to do it.

  2. U ARE THE ONE WHO TALKS TOO MUCH NO WONDER YOUR BOSS WAS ARRESTED BRIEFLY AND RELEASED AFTER COMING FROM PRISON HE IS VERY QUIET , WAS HE INJECTED SOMETHING TO KEEP HIM QUIET, CHECK HIS VICE TOO IS JUST A HEAP OF RUBBISH. THEY NEED TO TALK TOO MUCH FOR US TO GIBE THEM 2021 PLEASE ADVISE UR BOSS ..UKUTUMPA

  3. Zicta must look at making conditions favourable for Zambians to participate in service provision instead of Zambians being at the end of the value chain and continue being exploited by foreign dominated service providers. Is there a programme of weaning our citizens from foreign dominated service providers?

  4. Am sure there will be an announcement soon trumpeting the entry of a new player in the market… think it will be chinese..watch this space
