LACK of patriotism by the UPND leaders who have been all over the world speaking ill about Zambia using international media platforms for their selfish motives is what may be causing Amnesty International’s rantings, political analyst Alex Ng’oma has said.

Amnesty International secretary-general Salil Shetty said Zambia was facing a number of human rights challenges with police constantly using provisions of the Public Order Act to limit the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association.

Speaking during a press conference in Lusaka recently, Mr Shetty said that Zambians have everything to gain and nothing to lose from the country’s history of freedoms that has characterised it since independence despite the country facing a number of human rights challenges.

But Dr Ng’Amnesty Internationaloma, who is a political lecturer at the University of Zambia charged that the unjustified accusations against Government by Amnesty International could be as a result of the UPND leader, Mr Hakainde Hichilema’s lack of patriotism.

In an interview, Dr Ng’oma said it was a wrong ploy by Mr Hichilema and his senior members to play victim and tarnish Zambia’s image abroad for cheap political mileage which he noted has influenced Mr Shetty to accuse the Zambian government of not upholding human rights. “The perceptions that Zambia is facing a number of human rights challenges are not true. The Amnesty International’s remarks unfortunately could have been influenced by the opposition UPND leaders who have been all over the world on international platforms speaking ill about the Zambian government,” he said.

Dr Ng’oma said it was disappointing that Mr Hichilema while in South Africa, used an international platform and allies to pass disparaging remarks on the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature undermining the very country he intend to one day lead.

He said the Patriotic Front led government under President Edgar Lungu respects human rights.

Dr Ng’oma stated further that Amnesty International should refrain from falling prey to the tricks of disgruntled and bitter critics of government who were bent on regime change at any cost.

Recently, the UPND president, who was in the company of South Africa’s Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane and dressed alike, alleged that the Judiciary was controlled by the Executive and also made reference to some of his party members who were acquitted by the same courts of law.

Mr Hichilema was quoted as saying, “In our country today, we have a total breakdown of the rule of law. We have court judgements that are ignored by the Executive. It does not matter what the courts say, those in office will ignore it. We have constitutional breaches that are being committed by those in office.”

  1. Excuses! Excuses! Just do the right thing then nobody will be visiting you to correct you on your record. Amnesty Iternational is an independent body that has brought many countries to account fortbei abuses. Zambia is no exception.

    • Now I understand why UNZA graduates are half baked, how can someone so shallow be a lecturer? Alex Ng’oma does’t know that international media have covered police brutality, selectivity in Public Order Act application, a biased govt media, arrests with warrants, numerous nolle prosequi and a lecturer of all people will blame the UPND leadership!

    • Is this fellow a Doctor indeed? I am asking as such because I expected a real Doctor commenting on political issues such as Amnesty International to know that the Organization is found in most countries including Zambia. The organization gets its first hand information because they are in Zambia. So it means it’s for HH or the UPND leadership to travel and scandalize Zambia anywhere. Dr Shetty just happened to have been in Zambia but he got his data from his colleagues who are within Zambian people. I personally, was almost recruited by Amnesty International some years back. Read that paragraph which you thought was useless Doctor. You will be a better Doctor.

    • The author of this rubbish is his head burried in the Sand.

Why should UPND praise PF when it has stolen votes and violently attacked and killed its supporters?

This author is clearly the embodiment of unpatroitic political parasite.

  2. There are so many illiterates in Zambia that it would be a great investment by any incoming government to setup night schools to fast track these huge numbers in basic literacy classes. The woes of this country will keep on multiplying because of the large numbers of illiterate citizens being appointed to top jobs in order to increase the numbers of ignoramuses working as a collective in making poor decisions at cabinet levels.
There will come a time when such decisions will lead to national disintegration.

  3. Why can’t UPND achieve anything politically meaningful in Zambia?
The UPND have this obsession with the west that puzzles me.
The only pipo Amnesty can accuse are Africans who think very independently.
It’s common and basic knowledge that the US is the worst abuser of human rights.
Take for example Guantanamo prison where many innocent pipo have bn held and tortured without trial.
    Lets serious UPND desperados.

  4. That Alex Ngoma is just doing some “ Umodzi Kumawa”.
Is Alex Ngoma the only full who can’t smell the PF mess? So shallow reasoning and yet he calls himself a Dr!

  5. Is this the caliber of a lecturer teaching political science at UNZA? I would rather be taught by a social studies teacher some civics at Tunduya primary school. No wonder we have some Unza student who cannot analyze the current political climate critically, save for people like Mark Simuwe.

  6. Alex Ngo’nga is just as an empty tin making noise by himself ranting nosense atwale ubupuba bwakwe ukutali.Ati University Political analyst bushe talemona ubupuba bwaba PF…chiwelewele sana

  7. THIS SO-CALLED POLITICAL FIMO-FIMO (DR ALEX NG’OMA) IS FOREVER ON THE ATTACK! HE ALWAYS ATTACKS UPND WHENEVER HE GETS AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO. PLEASE REMEMBER HIM WHEN YOU GET INTO POWER UPND. HE MUST ACCOUNT FOR HIS STATEMENTS.

  8. Oh my dear God, what is the name of this writer, similar names to those I know, muuuuh, is it only me who can smell a rat?Yeeeh when are we going to grow up, please leave my President alone, there is enough Kachasu somewhere for you, go and join your fellow chakolwas, leave our man with a sound vision for this great country. Keep your cataracts intact, they are doing well for you, keeping you blind to the suffering of my brothers and sisters. As for me and my great friends, we will shine light every evil act you and your friends commit against us. The world is so close dear, they will hear about it. Waona manje wayamba kusabaila.

  9. WE ARE NOT IGNORANT OF THE SCHEMES OF THESE MERCENARIES DISGUISED AS HUMAN RIGHTS PROMOTERS. AS MATTER OF FACT, MOST OF THESE BRUTAL BLOOD THIRSTY ORGANISATION HAVE BEEN BEHIND MOST BRUTAL REGIME CHANGES IN AFRICA. THEIR HANDS ARE GUILTY OF MERCILESS MURDER OF ONE OF THE SONS OF AFRICA, MUAMMAR GADAFFI. WHERE HAS THEIR RANTINGS TAKEN LIBYA AFTER GADAFFI. THAT COUNTRY WILL NEVER SEE PEACE AGAIN. ITS NOW ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACES IN AFRICA.
WE SHOULD WATCH THEIR COME TO ZAMBIA WITH BOTH EYES OPEN..THEY OFTEN COME WITH A DOUBLE EDGED SWORD..WATCH CLOSELY THE MOVEMENTS OF HH THE SELLER-OUT TOO…HE IS KNOW FOR SELLING AND BENEFITING FROM OUR NATIONAL ASSETS..A LEOPARD NEVER CHANGES ITS COLOURS..!!

WE HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE GOOD FOR NOTHING ORGANISATION, AND WE…

  10. A Ngoma, are you a Doctor of Philosophy or Ng’anga yaku mawa? You sound like a retired Ng’anga who is seeking for a piece of work from PF. You bootlickers please give us a break.

  11. Gaddafi’s case was just like a one party state but ours is a multi party system so all those threatening us with war, won’t succeed. When Sata started, a lot of such prophets used to scare us that ALALETA INKONDO, where the war he brought? We are not going to sit aside while our rights are being trampled upon in the name of peace.

  12. PF reign is almost coming to an end but its unfortunate that there is no alternative as at now. HH has killed UPND and the rest of the capable leaders in that party are looking like Zombies because they can’t do anything as long as the life president Mr HH is there. How can one manage 5 loses alone and has the audacity to shield others from contesting for presidency? It pains me. The big brains of our country should come together and form a formidable party that will allow people to participate freely. Leave PF to ECL and UPND to HH. We are tired of these two.

  13. Cont…
MMD to N.Mumba and FDD to Nawakwi. These people are so selfish that they don’t want to hear anyone talking about succeeding them. This is evil. I even wonder why some people are still supporting them. Also recycled politicians are making it worse because for them its all about money. No interest for a common Zambian.

  14. Very stupid political so called analyst, it’s Lungu who has tarnished the image of the country through his tyranny as exemplified by his inhumane imprisonment of HH.

    • Sad that an educated person can carry so much hatred for another human being.Lòoks like this doctor has a persoñal ndaba with the most popular politician in the country. Why are so many of you talking on his behalf.I would have loved to call ÀI in the first year of PF rule if it were possible .If HH has managed to bring them now then he is a great guy.Only criminals get scared when they see zambwino Palibe ZP.
