A Kwacha constituency resident  has bemoaned the lack of clean drinking water in Ipusukilo ward as most of the shallow wells are dug closer to pit latrines.

The constituency comprises of Kwacha, Bulangililo, Ipusukilo, Chantete, Riverside and Lubwa wards with a number of unplanned settlements dotted in the area.

In an interview with Pan African Radio news during the Non-Governmental Organizations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC)’s Monitoring and evaluation tour of the Copperbelt Province recently, Ms. Daka revealed that people in the area have no piped water, affirming that the people especially in Ipusukilo ward drink water from the shallow wells which are dug closer to pit latrines.

Ms. Daka says when the Kafue River is flooded its contaminated water go into the shallow wells and subsequently people drink the same water.

Ms. Daka has since appealed to Nkana water and sewerage Company to quickly provide piped water in the area.

She says people of Ipusukilo ward risky contracting water bone diseases such as typhoid and cholera.

“We drink water from the shallow wells which are dug closer to pit latrines” Ms. Daka said

  1. It’s Ipusukilo popularly known as Kapoto. Again we’re caught with our carelessness. We allow settlements everywhere even though we very well know how limited our capacities are.

  2. Where is the Minister of the Province? This is what he should be occupying himself with. Not chasing people and acting like a hooligan politicizing everything. Meekness is what makes a leader. Being in touch with your people in every district and making yourself aware of their concerns.

  3. boza NWS, has provided WATER pipes and its up to people to apply for water supply at your resident. maybe you can talk of sewer line and not water pipe I oppose it . which side are you referring which has no water pipe? maybe across the Kafue river.

  4. MP Malanji what is he doing. The report is there my brother. Look at the roads in kwacha Constituency. The rains are around the corner, what are you going to tell the Ipusukilo pipo again or they should wait for Year 2021

    • You’ve to know the Genesis of this township to appreciate what all previous MPS have tried to do to improve the situation . All of them including the Catholic Church at St Peters Parish have done their best.

  5. This is a situation everywhere, here in Mutendere east we now used or become immune to feacal matter. We have the Elevo company doing the sewer and water reticulation. Its now been months without clean water who knows when this project will end? May be when cholera wipes all of us out, because Lusaka water and sewerage company is quiet and is still sending us bills strange indeed

  6. what is the safest distance from a pit latrine ? Furthermore, a pit latrine is shallow while a borhole is deep can we have someone shade light on both height difference and horizontal difference

    • 50 metrs and beyond is the safest, but i have seen boreholes dug in plush chalala by so called educated Zambians even less than 10 metres from septic tanks, looks like exponential ignorance since independence , the way people behaved in the sixties was more smarter than their children.

    • The problem in Ipusukilo and such compounds is that you’ll get as many as three houses in a yard of 30m x 20m. It’s agony when you’ve a funeral there because apart from overcrowding you can not drive your car to the funeral house.

    • And what will it profit you to use a car in unplanned settlement like kapoto, use a bicycle dude you won’t lose your dignity.

  7. This is off topic but it is IMPORTANT. Pneumonic PLAGUE has been detected in MADAGASCAR with warnings for Mozambique, South Africa, Kenya,Tanzania
Thus plague is an absolute KILLER it is transmitted by coughing touching etc.
THIS IS NOT ALARMIST IT IS IN AUSTRALIAN NEWS IS ZAMBIAN HEALTH DEPARTMENT AWARE

    • Thanks but after testing samples the WHO have confirmed that it’s not the plague. All the same we should stay alert. Just like cholera which has beset Yemen has also hit Zambia, this plague can reach us.

    • Yemen is a war zone, it’s the Somalia of the middle east, very ungovernable and this pf Cadre ndanje wants us to be the same league with this God forsaken country. Lord have mess on these ignorant your children.

    • That’s the eedicy of Upnd. How do you bring in politics in the issue? The contributor simply alerted us that there’s an outbreak just off the eastern African coast and I also talked about another epidemic nearby and there you go farting like your fat albert. You mean you can’t do anything without politics.

  8. @Divide and Rule, please note that supporting some organization doesn’t necessarily mean one is a member of such. I support the government and hate HH because latter is a tribalist.

    • Which school gives out certificates in tribalism? And can ndanje post one authentic certificate from such a school? Ngati it’s just one of those nkani yamu kachasu, pliz give us a break.

    • Off target again. HH is tribal period. I wouldn’t make a mistake of voting for a Tonga for president. We saw what Mwanawasa a bantubotatwe did to the people of Luapula. ..
Katele, Machungwa and others. Who talked about certificates issued on tribal lines? It’s you. HH has never distanced himself from tribal remarks by his supporters.
