The local football fraternity is mourning ex-Zambia Under-20 promising midfielder Changwe Kalale.

Kalale, who was left paralysed by a road accident in 2014, died on Sunday morning at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.

“Changwe died on Sunday morning around 09:00 hours. Funeral is at our home in Chambishi on the Copperbelt,” his father Ben Kalale confirmed on Sunday.

Kalale was on the road to join the Chipolopolo camp in December 2014 when he was involved in the accident together with ex-Zambia defender Nyambe Mulenga and keeper Satchmo Chakawa.

The accident involving two vehicles claimed four people on the spot.

Meanwhile, FAZ president Andrew Kamanga has paid tribute to Kalale.

“It is with a heavy heart that we receive the passing on of a gifted player whose career was cut short through a terrible accident that confined him to a wheelchair,” Kamanga said in a statement.

Kalale was in and out of hospital prior to his death.
