The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has adopted Maria Langa as a candidate for the forthcoming Chilanga Parliamentary by election slated for June 5th, 2018.

PF Secretary General Davies Mwila made the announcement during a press briefing in Lusaka that just like the party outshined the opposition during last week’s local government by-elections, it will do the same for the Chilanga seat.

Mr. Mwila has also disclosed that Mandemvu Member of Parliament Jean Kapata, who is also Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, has been appointed as the Campaign manager while Copperbelt Minister Japhen Mwakalombe, who is also Chongwe Member of Parliament, will be deputy.

He says Chongwe Mayor Geoffrey Chumbwe, has also been appointed to be deputy campaign manager as he will join forces with Mr. Mwakalombe.

And the PF Chief Executive Officer says the party expects violence free campaigns in Chilanga saying the ruling party will not tolerate any form of violence.

He says the campaigns should be free of victimization as the party expects free and fair election.

And Ms Langa has told journalist that she is humbled that the party settled for her after receiving over ten applications for the Chilanga seat.

Ms Langa is confident that she will win the election as she is on the ground and people have confidence in her.

    • I don’t understand PF morality …you discipline someone for drunkenness like Mumbi Phiri but you still continue to show her on the high table.

    • Langa is a Malawian name. There is a village just near the boarder of Mwami/Mchinji calle Langa. Kwa Langa ni ku Malawi!!

    • Does this even really matter? Kaili in Zambia you just vote and start asking questions later after dancing, eating and getting materials …. No need for resume otherwise if it was no issues should be coming up after

  3. I EXPECT IT TO BE A TIGHT CONTEST AS THE UPND WILL NOT WANT TO GO DOWN QUIETLY. I THINK UPND ARE MOST FAVOURED TO WIN. THIS ONE MAY BE THE REAL TEST FOR UPND. BUT MAY THE BEST CANDIDATE WIN.

  5. @Shebele Manda & @Mpundu Mwaume: WHY ARE YOU BOTHERED ABOUT WHO SHE IS, HER TRIBE ETC? THE PEOPLE OF CHILANGA KNOW HER AND THAT IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HER, THE ONUS IS ON YOU.

  6. @Chisenga. Take it easy. Hold your fire. You probably (mis)understood my comment. There is a reason PF thinks she is the best candidate (And it is not tribe!) which has a lot to do with who she is. Maybe she has lived or worked in Chilanga before or held political office. It is simple details like that I was hoping to learn. I am interested in her because she is seeking public office.

    • @Mpundu Mwaume: I UNDERSTAND YOU. IT IS PROBABLY POOR JOURNALISM BY LT. THE PF COULD HAVE USED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELL THE CANDIDATE ALSO.

    • Mpundu: and she will making directions for our future when she seats in parliament. It’s pretty necessary I knew her back ground. We do not want another issue of Mulongoti later on when she becomes president. People are hateful when you reach such levels so the earlier such issues are dealt with the better. There is completely nothing wrong.

    • DJ7: Please check out the details of the Ghanaian professor Abraham Badu-Tawiah at Ohio State University. I’m not through with you till you begin to think the right thoughts. On Maria Langa, I know KK’s legacy is what makes you say what you say about her. To you there were no people in the Lusaka area before it became Zambia’s capital city. That is how Zambia’s comedians behave, the Catholic Church and just about everyone else. So much for one Zambia one nation.

  9. We real Zambians we need to be very careful with foreigners. Zambian politics belong to real Zambian only but Zambia has a country belong to all Zambians and all those who live in it.

  10. The only place in Zambia where people ignore the many bad attributes of h.h is southern, even western showed their displeasure during this week’s Lealui ward elections. I think that h.h has done much damage to his party through tribal speech, hate speech, inconsistency, unpatriotic etc. And voters have been looking, now watch.

  11. Here is the little information I could gather about her. She contested for council chair person in 2016. She lost with a thin margin to UPND candidate. She is well known in Chilanga in political arena and does not need introduction for Chilanga residents.

  12. UPND is the favourite to retain Chilanga seat.but if UPND adopt a weak candidate and dont match PF’s resources, campaign messages, manpower, etc,UPND shall lose this seat to PF!!moreover if many opposition parties decide to contest here, they will split votes among themselves-giving PF an advantage!!looking at the names PF has chosen as campaign managers (Hon.Jean Kapata,Hon.Mwakalombe and Mr Chuumbwe),it is very clear that PF means business in Chilanga!!Should HH sleep and go with same poor UPND strategies, this seat will be scooped by PF!!
Expect ministers and several senior PF officials to camp in Chilanga.in 2016,Keith Mukata of UPND won this seat with few votes. The race was tight between UPND and PF in 2016!!
At ward level,PF will win all 6 wards on 5th June,2018!!on paper its 55% for…

  13. Continue….
On paper, its 55% for UPND,40% for PF and 5% for other political parties in Chilanga.
But with proper planning, very serious and well funded campaigns, more manpower(senior PF officials),etc PF will grab this seat from UPND because HH has nothing new to tell Chilanga residents!!Kainde will go there with same hopeless message;e.g; about 2016 petition, impeachment, corruption,ECL’s nationality, how he suffered at mukobeko, etc!!!WHO CAN BE IMPRESSED WITH THAT NONSENSE FROM KAINDE?NOBODY BADAALA!!

    • For the first time you have debated without malice. That is the way it should be. Your points on UPND in general and HH in particular are rock solid. The problem HH has is that he thinks he is very educated to get advise from any one. He is egocentric and that is the main reason he has not excelled politically. He also lacks the charisma and the tactic to manoeuver in the political arena. He should just go back to his practice of Accountancy.

  14. I think chilanga constituency is a upnd platform. However, if upnd publishes a selfpity sentiment, they will loose points. People r not interested in crying babies. If one has to cry, they better cry to their mother. And should pf capitalize on fulfilling their campaign promises which they have so far touched, they may give upnd a tough time.
Remember, in this forthcoming election, PF has little to loose and UPND has indeed much to loose.
    Nice reading fellas!!!
