The Lusaka Magistrate Court has revoked bond for musician and activist Chama Fumba popularly known as Pilato.

This follows the accused’s failure to appear in court on several occasions in a case in which he is co-accused with Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) President Sean Tembo, Civil Activist Laura Miti and others for disobeying lawful orders in relation to a protest over the controversial procurement of 42 fire tenders.

Pilato’s explanation that his absence was due to threats on his life following the release of a song, which led him to seek refuge in South Africa has not convinced Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile.

This forced his lawyer Keith Mweemba to apply for his client’s bond to be restored, which application has been objected to by the state.

The court will decide whether or not to grant the application on May 21.

Meanwhile, Pilato and his co-accused have all pleaded not guilty to the charge of having disobeyed lawful orders on September 27, last year.

Pilato was intercepted yesterday by plain clothed police officers upon his return from a four month a self-imposed exile in South Africa.

  1. Chiluba started this system of weekend imprisonment.
People never claim compensation for 3 days wrongful imprisonment.

    • contempt of court. I think he needs to be there so that next time will give the court it due respect.

    • He deserves to be locked in. Zambia is not a play ground where the rule of law can be manipulated anyhow. Grow up Pilato and also wake up. They are just using ou to make ends meet. Why should you suffer for the masses that do not even care of your wellbeing or your family?

    • Pilato was deposed and sent to Rome by Lucius Vitellius after harshly suppressing a Samaritan uprising, arriving just after the death of Tiberius which occurred on 16 March in AD 37.In all four gospel accounts, Pilato lobbies for Jesus to be spared his eventual fate of execution, and acquiesces only when the TONGAS refuses to relent. He thus seeks to avoid personal responsibility for the death of Jesus. In the Gospel of Matthew, Pilato washes his hands to show that he is not responsible for the execution of Jesus and reluctantly sends him to his death. The Gospel of Mark, depicting Jesus as innocent of plotting against the Dundumwezi Empire, portrays Pilato as reluctant to execute him. In the Gospel of Luke, Pilato not only agrees that Jesus did not conspire against Dundumwezi, but Herod…

    • CONT’D….
In the Gospel of Luke, Pilato not only agrees that Jesus did not conspire against Dundumwezi, but Herod Hantipas(HH), the tetrarch of Dundumwezi, also finds nothing treasonable in Jesus’ actions. In the Gospel of John, Pilato states “I find no guilt in Him [Jesus],” and he asks the TONGAS if Jesus should be released from custody.

  2. Pilato was living in Dernfaine at GBM residence, he found himself isolated by Zambians living in SA more especially those Zambians living around Randburg, fourways,Northgate, Brystone, Rivonia, Sandton,;Midrand areas. Worse case he realized that Zambians are in SA are very busy with there work. He couldn’t socialise and South Africa couldn’t grant him assylum. No papers

    • Extremely nicely put Skipper!!!! You and I definitely know each other 😀 Not forgetting Sunninghill and the whole “Witkoppen”, “Malibongwe”, William Nicole” and “N14″….

  3. Pilato my namesake please don’t be used by these useless politicians, learn from our friends The now late Chanda chimba the 3rd let’s see if GBM and HH will fight for you. There is no crisis in Zambia my friend not even the UK will deny you asylum.Dont be fooled Zambia is classed as our one of the peaceful nations everywhere I go when I mention Zambia my colleagues here respect me ,we have something to cherish about our country don’t be fooled by the desperation of HH to tarnish the name of our beautiful country,I have recommended to a lot of my friends here to visit and explore our tourist places ,that’s what we should be doing.Lets promote our country be it through music or social media,we are all Zambians and that’s our only country.

  4. Fwakuofwaila. GBM was the sole sponsor of Pilato finacially, but what Pilato and GBM didn’t realise is that the South African goverment do their own independent reasearch on the ground in Zambia thru international relations using the South African embassy in Lusaka. Pilato was on SABC and the project failed back to Zambia and sender

  5. Well done SA Govnt for sending this upnd cadre back home!!he has to dance to his tune here and not hoding in SA!!
Hope Kainde can free him now.for now Pilato azamiziba yesu in cold police cells while HH whom he supports blindly is enjoying Mutinta at his chalala home!!!
No politician can force me to commit crime because if am arrested, its myself to suffer alone!!HOPE PILATO HAS LEARNT A LESSON NOW!!!

    • Comos it’s the high commissioner and not high commissioner. However the high commissioner is the head of the embassy. You can call him/her high commissioner or ambasador – Top diplomat and normally called his/her Excellence

    • High commissioner is thr title of an individual appointed by the President to head the country’s embassy while embassy is the official working place and some other countries compond where the diplomats including thr high commissioner works from and other countries which houses componds where the diplomats live

  6. Lungu is scared of people who practice their freedom of expression because they will uncover his corruption. The best thing is to shut them up using state machinery. The Zambia police are the biggest puppets. They are just robots

    • Freedom of expression doesn’t mean breaking the law, does it??? It was some overzealous PF members who spoke about Pilato after that 1.d.i.o.tic song (and were warned by senior members to retract their statements) but the media team, senior members or the presidency have never commented about that song. Pilato is scared of his own shadow, the asylum stunt has flopped!! Keith Mweemba is cashing in on kainde, defending anything (olo inkoko!!) that makes noise against ECL…

  7. he got tired of smoking Swazi grass and decided to come home for some Malawi gold. BA Pila tulabeba ati Chibolya dobo is the best, don’t go chasing water falls just listen to the rivers and the lakes that you are used to.

  8. I am just wondering why he came back. Could it be the RSA government pid him….no RSA doesn’t extradite people to countries with death penalty. Or maybe the sponsor of his exile didn’t get the attention they hoped for and therefore Pilato is of no use to them? Just wondering.

    • Only if the deportee is facing a death penalty offence. If he stole a car for example they would deport him

    • The South African did there due dilligience and found out that Pilato was lying and assylum ststus refused hence he had no legal papers to stay in South Africa. Pilato in future won’t be allowed entry in SA because he wanted to decieve the South African goverment unless he changes his names bearing in the passport
