Government says it has no immediate plans of increasing the price of fuel in the country.

Minister of Energy Matthew Nkhuwa says contrary to stories circulating in some sections of the media that government plans to increase the price of fuel, the price of the commodity will be maintained for now.

Mr. Nkhuwa says although the kwacha has depreciated against the U.S dollar leading to the increase in the price of crude oil, there will be no upward adjustments in the price of fuel.

He says the rumors in circulation are targeted at tarnishing the image of government adding that no oil marketing firm is mandated to the price of fuel without consultations.

Mr. Nkhuwa who was speaking to ZNBC in an interview further says Zambia is the only country with a competitive price of fuel in the SADC region in terms of pricing and urged people Not to be misled.

  1. Very strange indeed from Mr Nkhuwa …. so is he saying that the subsidies are back in effect ? In recent past they have been using the very factors which are on the upswing for the fuel price increase they even told us of some new calculations which will require fortnightly adjustments. Now global oil prices are at the highest they have been in years and the Kwacha is also performing poorly against major convertibles. This is now playing politics…. they shouldn’t have made so much noise on new price adjustment methods if they knew they wont stick to it … no wonder you are called chipante pante even Dora siliya once described ba PF as flip flop politicians

    • Fuel prices tariff cannot be genuinely be kept constant for no cause. You still suck mula out of our pockets from the last hike. Shame one you. It’s just a matter of time. We are waiting for ERB.

  2. “Zambia is the only country with a competitive price of fuel in the SADC region in terms of pricing”
Sole ba minister what does that mean?

  3. Zambia is the only country in the all Africa with most expensive fuel. Many things are not controlled in Zambia. Cement in Zambia is also the most expensive in Africa. I even wonder why people vote Seriously?

  4. Useless minister who has no understanding of simple basic economics. The Kwacha is headed for US$1 = 18 kwacha in the next 24 months and the ***** thinks this will not affect the fuel price

  5. #4 Dj7, you are not alone in wondering why people vote, people also wonder why you don’t vote, Seriously?

    • Because it would jeopardize kickbacks though all that is needed is to cut off some players in the fuel acquisition and supply chain!

  6. Zambia’s we are not serious. Lets just initiate a study in converting urine to fuel!!!.

  7. Ba LT, very poor, incomplete reporting indeed. What are the current prices of fuel? And what is the exchange rate compared to what it was previously?
