Chambeshi laments Chipolopolo’s poor finishing

Beston Chambeshi has admitted that his side needs to be more clinical and ruthless in front of goal after failing to demolish Madagascar in Wednesday’s 2018 COSAFA Cup semifinal victory at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Chipolopolo were guilty of spectacular misses on June 6 in their 1-0 win over Madagascar in an improved display after earlier beating Namibia 4-3 on post -match-penalties following a dull 0-0 quarterfinal draw on June 2 at the same venue.

“It was tough game, Madagascar gave us a good run but we planned for this game and I am happy with the way the boys played especially in the second half,” Chambeshi said.

“We came in strong; we created a lot of chances. We were supposed to kill off this game by five or six goals unfortunately the boys were not accurate with their finish but I am happy with this victory at least we are in the finals.”

Cletus Chama alone was guilty of three misses while Ronald Kampamba squandered two close-range attempts that all came after 60 minutes of action.

But the most dramatic miss came in stoppage time when John Chinangadu’s decision to go for glory, despite Lazarus Kambole and Chama free on both his flanks, was quelled by Madagascar goalkeeper Jean Randrianasolo who intercept his attempt to chip the ball over him.

Meanwhile, Zambia now face defending champions Zimbabwe on June 9 at Peter Mokaba in the repeat of last year’s final that Chipolopolo lost 3-1 in Rustenburg.

  1. Garbage in garbage out. The local league speaks volumes in terms of performance. So ba Kiambeshi what you picked is the cream and your job is to make them clinical at goal. That is why we pay you, remember? We do not want stupid excuses here. You picked what you saw to be the best like fote fote who even misses the goal when the goalkeeper is not in the goal mouth.

  2. The strikers are just dull as if they don’t watch European football…..they are a bunch of dull strikers period. That game they would have won by 7 -0 . Please teach them Physics and Mathamatics so that they start thinking.

  3. We are creating chances, what we need now is to start taking them!

Zimbabwe are a much more polished opponent, as we learnt in last year’s final, and are sure to create chance of their own, we need to be “cold blooded” in front of goal tomorrow, giant keeper or not!…

  4. Let’s face facts, the assembled cosafa team is below par with unexception of the goalkeeper. The game against Madagascar was what I can say JuJu at work if ever there’s such a thing as there was nothing to show, Madagascar played better than Zambia in all departments if they play like that with Zimbabwe expect a good beating at least 3-0(1)

  5. Zambian league has no natural scorers. What do you expect coach to do. Teach these boys to score in 3 weeks? Recently golden boot award has been scooped by foreigners – Jesse , idriss, sabwa Walter Binene herritier Bwalya. Don’t force coach to bring in Fackson or parson not for such tournaments

  6. Unlike Zambia who have taken a second string side to COSAFA Zimbabwe have their top team so you have to be at your best. Ba Chambeshi just polish your strikers
