Today’s Message: Know When to Turn Away

Share

Today’s Scripture

“It is an honour for a man to cease from strife…”
(Proverbs 20:3, KJV)

When to Turn Away

In life, many of the challenges we face are simply distractions from the enemy to keep us from pursuing our destiny. Maybe someone in the office isn’t as friendly to you as you’d like. Maybe you have a neighbor who always parks in front of your house and blocks your mailbox. Those things may be frustrating, but they have little significance when you look at the big picture of eternity. You can’t allow the little things to cause strife in your life. In Scripture, just before David fought the giant Goliath, his brother Eliab tried to confront him. But David knew that arguing with Eliab wasn’t even worth his time and strength. He knew his real battle was with Goliath, and he didn’t want to be distracted. He simply “turned away” from Eliab and kept his focus on what he was called to do. Let’s follow the example of David and keep our eyes on what’s most important in life. Instead of being led away by frustrations, let’s focus on the big picture. Know when to turn away from strife and receive the mark of honor the Lord has for you!

A Prayer for Today

“Father God, thank You for Your hand of victory in my life. Give me the wisdom and courage I need to walk away from strife so I can focus on the destiny You have prepared for me. I love You and bless You today and always in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

  1. “I have no problem with “prayer” as an act of meditation. In fact, many atheists can tell you the benefit of silent self-reflection. The delusion occurs when you think someone else is hearing your thoughts and acting on them.”

  2. Sage: I cannot argue with you on this one. Exactly my thoughts. I often wonder what the point of prayer is, for example, to mark the beginning of proceedings by the Zambian Parliament. The Speaker starts with a prayer and by the time he says “Amen”, the insults start. The main message in the prayer is already forgotten minutes after the end of the prayer session. This is one useless ritual in my view. One of the many reasons I have no religion any more.

    • Charles Mwelwa: The omnipresent , the all powerful you are talking about was in the ships carrying slaves to the Americas. There was no intervention even as some slaves were jettisoned into the Atlantic to drown in order to save the ships when turbulence struck. The all powerful , the omnipresent couldn’t intervene. Some power, some omnipresence! Tell it to the marines my friend.

  3. Sage and Chanchima: just as there are many other acts which are done jst as a matter of formality, some prayers ar indeed not genuine. Bt zat shouldn’t be the reason u shdnt pray and connect with the omnipresent and the Almighty. Much of our govt system in Zambia today(judiciary, executive leadership, parliamnet) ar in coma bcoz of the hand of 1 person-the egoistic and greedy supreme leader. Therefore don’t cite the govt arms for examples, no. Pipo working in these places complain about the hindrance to exercise their professional objectivity.all bcoz the supreme leader thinks these govt arms ar there to serve him first and not the 16m citizens.

  4. A Good Slave is a Good Christian
“Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.” (Peter 2:18)

Wake up from your docility and study about self!!

    • Jay Jay: That is in fact Eph 6:6 unless things have been changed from the last time I was attending church.

    • Peter 2:18-25 New International Version (NIV)
18 Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

    • Slaves and Masters
5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would show to Christ. 6And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7Serve with good will, as to the Lord and not to men,…
      Ephesians 6:6

    • Chanchima – You are right one thing to note is that both verses are talking slaves and masters…the very bible us blacks worship upon endorses slavery of our people.

    • Jay Jay: It seems our critics have given up! They think we do not read the Bible. We didn’t walk away from what we did not read.

  5. “When to turn away from strive”; what a simple but powerful message that speaks to me. God already has a plan to prosper me and all these challenges are mere noises. When God makes any good person to prosper then many also benefit from the blessing. God my prayer for Zambia today is for you to prosper every believer regardless of the challenges they face so that the nation can benefit from what you have in store for us as a country. God Bless Zambia!
