President Edgar Lungu has said that government will continue creating more districts to accelerate development across the country depending on the availability of resources.

The President said that he has decided to give Eastern province five districts because people in some parts of the province were not benefiting from government programs.

Speaking when he addressed a rally in the newly created district of Lusangazi, President Lungu thanked the people of Eastern province for appreciating what government is doing for them

He assured the people in the area that all the newly created districts will have schools, district hospitals and other support facilities.

The President is in the district to drum up support for PF Council chairperson candidate William Banda for the upcoming local government by-election.

Speaking at the same occasion, Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu said the declaration of five districts has improved service delivery to the people.

Earlier Msanzala MP Peter Daka said the construction of roads, erection of communication towers and provision of electricity in the area is a sign that President Lungu is willing to improve peoples’ lives.

President Lungu who arrived this morning in the district is on a three day visit to Eastern Province during which he is expected to hold public meetings, meet chiefs and check on development projects.

Meanwhile President Lungu has declared Thursday July 26th a public holiday. The Head of state said that the move has been taken to enable more people to turn up in numbers and vote.

President Lungu said that the declaring is in line with the powers vested in him.

    • How does this tie in with austerity measures or fiscal consolidation announced by the finance minister? Creating more districts amounts to extending the size of the state and this has financial implications, this means the state having to spend more money. Great one, Mr President! But we are on the brink of debt distress. If the exchange rate depreciates significantly, that alone would be enough to send us over the cliff. That is the lot of poor nations that do not have the luxury of denominating their foreign borrowing in their own currency.

    • How do you declare a national public holiday when it is only Mayoral election in Lusaka. The public holiday should have only been for Lusaka voters …..it is nothing new to have regional holidays it is something we can learn from other countries. Meanwhile new district pronouncements and showing seriousness with Austerity measures just don’t Mix bwana presido why do you isolate yourself from the painful things citizens have to face whenever u talk u only either shoot at opposition or talk of niceties…. You so remind of prosperity preachers …when we know life has many tough moments

    • Chanchima – Austerity measures only exist on scrap paper already in the bin…this is why IMF stated: “….on Zambia, discussions on a possible Fund-supported program have been suspended because the authority’s borrowing plans compromised the country’s debt sustainability and, in our view, undermine its macroeconomic stability.”

    • Lungu what about the people of Southern Province? Where do they stand with you? Is that the reason why Kafue/Mazabuka Road remains un attended? The Provinces you are ignoring will do a Dundumwezi the you will cry like RB.
      Si Zambia ya nyoko!

    • Lusaka Times please ban Sharon. He doesn’t offer anything here. He is spamming this site constantly.

    • LAZY Bums LUNGU, every opportunity he gets, he declares a holiday. This LAZY clown is NOT presidential material.

Why should elections in Lusaka affect production in Kasama, Luwingu, Kalabo, L/Stone etc? It defies logic.

Guinea the laziest nation in the world has 3 working days, Tuesday to Thursday. Soon Zambia will beat Guinea.

  1. Run away not it is coming! Sorry, the Hatribes Association of Zambia and HaNegatives Tribal Grouping will soon be here! Run, lady!

  2. Kikikikiki….twapoleka again..!! Twanwa again hehehehehe. Indeed let it be an annual holiday. Kwekwekwekwekwe

  3. Kwena ye! When do Zambians work. So Kaputa and Senangwa will be on holiday because of Lusaka. I think we are over rating Lusaka.

    • Most will not even come in on Friday ….this is what happens when we have an absolutely workshy President who doesn’t understand about productivity and how it affects SMEs!!

  4. “President Lazy said that the declaring is in line with the powers vested in him.”
Just yesterday his drunkard of a Finance Minister was stating that she has already gone over budget; created a supplementary budget part financed by donors and this lazy sausage declares a public holiday for the whole country because of Mayoral elections in the Capital on Thursday. To add add fuel to fire this lazy man is oblivious to the fact we are in this debt spiral because this selfsame pointless creation of districts; what services are you going to deliver when you are broke.
Lazy Lungu …do you know what austerity measures is…no wonder the IMF didn’t believe these reckless clowns with out seeing the numbers!!

    • You are in a long haul insolent lazy bum tribal grouping organiser! Because Childish will never be president in Zambia.

    • Lazy bum insolent tribal hooligan bully and son of a polygamist father gushing out vile but TONGAA’s tribalism and company WILL NOT alter the Government’s developmental agenda.

  5. Firstly elections are only in Lusaka and a few districts. Secondly these are only mayoral or District chairperson elections not even national assembly . Thirdly we have to work harder now to pay off the eurozone and other debts contracted on our behalf by incompetent leaders. Fourthly we are trying to get assistance from the IMF and for that we need to show them how hard working we are yet someone just decides to waste a whole day being totally unproductive just because he can declare a wasteful day. No wonder some bloggers call him lazy Lungú. This is the biggest proof of that.

    • “FOURTHLY, HH will Never be President!” Fifthly, When Charmaine and HH get their first born, HaJJ will be born. When they get a second, HaLarry HaMweetwa will be born. Both will have maladjustment syndromes because Mutinta will not treat ’em well.

    • I suspect HH screwed your mother and never paid her for the services. Just go away from this forum you c@nt!

    • Are you the cartel too? Did you mean your mother or your sister? Please don’t be rude! HH is a leader of a tribal organisation in Zambia that wants to bring lawlessness in the nation.

  6. You are so rude, if your mother or you sister heard about that they will not be happy with you! Anyway, Larry Mweetwa NEVER had a good upbringing. No manners, so they might not get offended too.

  7. It is holiday because we do not want “Panga for Panga!” We also want the Flying Squad to work efficiently. Du

    • Let me advise you for you may not realize it Sharon. I know you don’t know that you are a menta patient. Just see how much of the hat you have been spewing out has not resonated with anyone except with one Senior Citisen who shares your condition. Please, seek treatment; Chainama Hospita provides free treatment. You desperately need help.

  8. SHARON… DESPITE OF ME BEING A PF, I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT YOU ARE FULLY IGNORANT AND DULL ABOUT PROGRESSIVE AND CHALLENGING DEBATE. YOU’RE ALWAYS OUT OF TOPIC AND YOU SOUND VERY GHETTO BRUTO MINDED. SURPRISINGLY, A WOMAN..

LEARN TO DEFEND PF WITH DIRECTIVE AND EDUCATIVE POINTS.

  9. Typical case of a lazy president transmuting lazyness to the masses.
It sims politics are now way above the main economic drivers in our economy.Yes we understand he has those powers vested in him but logic should prevail.

  10. What’s this obsession with “Holidays”? A Mayor does nothing in my opinion. We have bills to pay pliz!

  11. Sharon tame your language 4 heaven s sake. .that way insults directed at u will vanish.
Am not asking for too much?

  12. I LOVE MY PRESIDENT ECL. BUT ON THIS PRONOUNCEMENT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A BIT CAUTIOUS. HE COULD HAVE JUST DIRECTED EMPLOYERS INCLUDING GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS IN DISTRICTS AND WARDS CONCERNED TO ALLOW THEIR WORKERS TO GO AND CAST THEIR VOTES THEN COME BACK FOR WORK IMMEDIATELY. WITH OUR BAD WORKING CULTURE IN ZAMBIA, IT MEANS EVEN FRIDAY WILL ESSENTIALLY BE A HOLIDAY. A FOUR DAYS HOLIDAY.

  13. The President is out of touch with his minister of finance who in the recent past just announced a number of austerity measures. Its seems as though the word austerity is new to PF minions and Margret’s attempts to put thing in order have already hit a brick wall. Could it be that the President got wind of the IMF’s disclosure that discussion for a bail out have dim prospects of being resurrected and has hence decided just to politic and declare even more districts. This is the disorganization and lack of vision that we have been clamorous about. How does declaration of holidays help with austerity measures? That’s the paradox.

    • Thank you my dear Habanjovuu. They gang up on the net from the Hatribes United Football Club (or Monze Swallows) to trying to destroying our peaceful nation because of selfishness like that in HH who became rich through privatization by stealing money but have failed to admit that he is a thief! When Chitalu his co-starring privatization thief appeared they were quick to say, “Chitalu thief!” To fit their narrative of “Bemba: Thief!” Tto’a: Saint!” And now, “Lungu: Thief/Corrupt” “HH/Mwanawasa:Saint” HH is sponsoring them and appointed HaJAYJAY as the ONLINE DISSEMINATOR of Mapatizya Formula.

    • You will be surprised I have very good friends who are T.s. I respect them and they respect me and the nonsense I see on this site, I have never seen it from any of them. You will be surprised my best friend in school was T and still is. Never be cheated that I hate T.s. I hate the behavior of a few people on this site who disrespect the president and want to destroy our country. If these people were not what they are and UPND stopped its destructive agenda and fought and campaigned like any normal opposition party you would NEVER have seen me here! But you will continue to see me because it is “Panga for Panga.”

  14. Would have been better if the elections were on Friday. It doesn’t make sense to declare public holiday on Thursday and then go to work on Friday. It doesn’t make sense to declare public holiday for the whole country when voting is only for mayoral elections in Lusaka and a few Councillors in the outskirts of the country. This does not make economic sense Mr Presido. We know you love us but let make lazy.

  15. WHATEVER THIS ANIMAL CALLED SHARON IS ,SHE IS A WASTE OF CREATION.YOUR HATRED FOR HH AND THE TONGAS WILL CONSUME YOUR DAMN ASS.YOU ARE ALWAYS OFF THE DEBATE.WHO EVER F****KS U IS A MAD SOUL.YOU ARE SO DEMANTED AND LABOURING UNDER THE DEFECT OF REASONING.

    • One who is lazy sits back and provides direction while others do the work. Can do. One who is directionless, awe mwandini…Zambia kuponena mucilindi. Can’t do.

  16. These guys act like kindergarten children and they think they are educated. They have no appreciation of the achievements that our nation has gotten and want to think we are a disaster. No wonder other people don’t respect us as Africans. The behavior of this tribal grouping with its leader is unprecedented! What a shame trying to destroy Zambia one of the greatest nation in Africa.

  17. Mayoral elections do not warrant a holiday for all except for institutions which have been turned into polling stations.
You vote and go back to work!
Voting isn’t a day’s work, especially that some of our polling stations are 20 min walk from home.
    unless the officials are inept!
