Incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa has won the Zimbabwean presidential election, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced early on Friday morning.

ZEC chairperson Priscilla Chigumba said Mnangagwa had received 2,460,463 votes (50.8%) followed by the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance’s Nelson Chamisa with 2,147,436 votes (44.3%).

“I do hereby declare that the votes by the winner are more than half the number cast in the presidential election. Mnangagwa is, therefore, duly declared as elected president of the Republic of Zimbabwe with effect from August 3, 2018,” Chigumba said.

The number of votes received by Mnangagwa and Chamisa, per province, were:

  1. Harare Metropolitan (Urban): Mnangagwa 204,710 ; Chamisa 548,880
  2. Masvingo (Rural): Mnangagwa 319,073; Chamisa 171,196
  3. Mashonaland East (Rural): Mnangagwa 334,617 ; Chamisa 189,024
  4. Matabeleland South (Rural): Mnangagwa 107,008 ; Chamisa 90,292
  5. Bulawayo Metropolitan (Urban): Mnangagwa 60,168 ; Chamisa 144,107
  6. Matabeleland North (Rural): Mnangagwa 111,453 ; Chamisa 137,611
  7. Mashonaland Central (Rural): Mnangagwa 366,785 ; Chamisa 97,097
  8. Midlands (Rural): Mnangagwa 350,754 ; Chamisa 255,059
  9. Manicaland (Rural): Mnangagwa 292,938 ; Chamisa 296,429
  10. Mashonaland West (Rural): Mnangagwa 312,958 ; Chamisa 217,732

The MDC Alliance had rejected the presidential results before the official announcement. the Party said that their agents were denied an opportunity to verify the results, and therefore the party rejected them.

The alliance’s chairman Morgan Komichi said the figures obtained by the party agents need to be checked against those that were announced.

Before the final announcement, Mr Komichi said the results were “fake”, claiming that chief elections had not yet verified the results. Security then escorted him from the stage.

In parliamentary Elections, Zanu-PF won by a landslide, gaining  144 seats, while the MDC Alliance, which is made up of seven parties, 64 seats, and the National Patriotic Front, formed by Mugabe loyalists after he was ousted, 1 seat. Only one candidate won an independent seat

More than five million people were registered to vote in Monday’s poll, and there was a turnout of 70%

Meanwhile, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa yestrday met heads of international election observer missions to Zimbabwe’s July 30 harmonised polls, who reportedly expressed general satisfaction with the conduct of the elections.

They, however, expressed strong disappointment over violent opposition demonstrations that occurred on Wednesday, in protest against poll results, in which three people died.

Heads from the African Union, SADC, COMESA, European Union, the Commonwealth, Carter Foundation and National Democratic Institute told President Mnangagwa , the political environment in the country was totally different, when compared with the past.

They all agreed that the process of election over the campaign period was very peaceful and they congratulate the people of Zimbabwe for that maturity.

They also congratulate the Zimbabwean voters for the relatively peaceful elections saying it is a huge break from the past.

However, the observers were disappointed by the events which saw the loss of three lives following an election violence in Harare.

Hundreds of MDC Alliance supporters turned the capital into a war zone, throwing stones and other missiles at the police, who responded with canon water and tear gas.

The rowdy supporters, who were accusing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ( ZEC ) of doctoring the election results to rob their party and leader Nelson Chamisa of victory and consequently looted shops and destroyed property including buildings and vehicles.

Zimbabwe Police sought the assistance of the army to quell the violent demonstrations which resulted in the death of three people and injury to scores of others.

President Mnangagwa said the international observers had expressed hope that Zimbabweans would find each other following the clashes.

  1. The moment I heard the Opposition storming the electoral commission office and claiming they had won, I knew they had lost. When Sata won , he never stormed ECZ. he was calm. Losers panic.

Anyway, Seen this movie in Zambia, an opposition leader with minority seats in Parliament claiming his votes were stolen and he should be president, since he lost by less than 2 %. The sad party is this movie can play out for a long long time.

Good luck comrades, at least you can take relief that, unlike us, your man was propped up by an urban vote and not a tribal vote.

    • Ba PF problem you think your influence goes beyond boarders what joy does a munangagwa give the people of zambia kindly check the mood in zimbabwe ichalo nachilwala.

    • The normad is itching his fingers by now to jump on the plane and go to Zimbabwe at the expense of Tax payers money insteaad of using the money for development projects . What a crewless government we have !

    • Shame Shame Shame…ZANU PF clearly lost these elections. No Democracy in Africa why waste time voting. Mnangagwa is a very evil man…worse than Mugabe

    • Who cares

      My name is Mushota Chimfwembe

      I have a PhD and I am 27

I live in Scotland where 90% of population are white people.

      This is life

      Thanks

      BB2014,2016

    • I agree with Mushota, I don’t care about Zimbabwe.
My president is Trump. Do you people know him, Trump?

    • Mushota chimfwembe doesn’t sound Scottish, am looking forward for those names to evolve into scottish one day,, I can feel your confusion

    • At least something for Lazy Lungu the loafer to do fly for the inauguration ceremony and stay there for two working days…The pilots are already warming the engines of the Challenger.

    • Need I state more, PF Cadre…

As a people of Zambia I think we have voted more than any other
country in the region at that level. We have been there.
Our colleagues ZIM’s, am afraid are just beginning to learn the ropes.

The opposition there still has ‘wet ears’ politically.

    • This will backfire on Uncle Bob and Grace who showed their cards late on…they would have done better showing their cards early as people would have seen that Bob himself can not vote for Zanu-PF after just a few months out how do they vote for them after 40 years.

    • When you hear results are taking 4 – 5 days to announce, just know that results are being cooked, doctored.
2015 Zambian general elections were announced the following day. Come 2016, it took 4 – 5 days to rig in order to reach 50+1 mark.

African ruling parties have mastered the art of rigging with the right dosage of:-
      – youth & police/military violence
      – splitting voters on tribal lines
      – intimidation of opposition leaders
      – biased state media, clamping down on independent media,
      – crooked vote compilation & vote tabulation
      – bribing of rotten judiciary in case there’s a petition

It’ll be apathy during elections for next few years. After that it’ll be violent coups. Then again true democracy will prevail.

    • @Nostradamus, I like you arrogance my guy. “do you know him, Trump?” kikikikiki! You made my day ba guy.
I have to know you. You must be my twin!

  2. The presidential results percentage figure is similar to what Edgar lungu got in 2016 very strange we are having what we call a sadc election doctoring machine.
    Good luck ma zimbo.

    • A review of the announcement, shows that it was well calculated. Like a rate chewing your toes, it chews then blows to give you force comfort. ZEC started with MDC wins, then “slammed” them hard at the end. The whole exercise was a physiological warfare and the timing – night so that by morning everything will have sunk in the heads of the opposition. Another shame for Africa.

    • no there is not. zanu once again rigged elections and the same thieves are still in power. the same as what happens here. country’s run by hungry thieves who are there to fill their pockets……this is a very sad day for Zimbabwe. People’s hopes and dreams of a brighter future crushed.

  3. Who needs voters when you’ve got the whole army and the ECZ to support you ? Well ,at least Chamisa won 3 provinces unlike the fuzzy numbers we got in Zambia elections.

    • This is why they is voter apathy in Africa when there is high voter turnout people are let down..how can it take that long to count ballot papers…It seems the rural areas again voted for the incumbent and his party even after the economy has been run down: I see Zimbabwe heading to the Egyptian style were you have retired Generals holding govt positions and consolidating the grip on to power forever. Chamisa better watch his back or else he will end up like Morgan.

  4. Another edgar lungu has been installed in zimbabwe. Stealing the peoples vote in broad daylight. Some people claiming that zambia does not experience deaths during elections. Have we forgotten the upnd supporters that have been killed by pf police during campaigns. I wish only death on pf

    • It is always the case when you lose you point that notorious accusing finger. Infact you are an educated fool. You will die leaving PF. Sonta apo wabomba. accept what Netor has pumped sense in you.

    • Repent you evil one. Stand up and face up to God and ask why that Tonga will never rule this country. His silliness has been exposed thats what time does.

    • What is there to repent of ba holier than thou? Can some one tell us which church the president was baptized into. Dont use the name of God in vain over your silly matters. Who cares even if he does not rule, the simple truth is that there are other candidates to vote for not this mediocrity we have been subjected into by PF.

    • Another way of stealing tax payers money, the cost of living is high. People are suffering to put food on table, zra are busy going home to home for Money, yet people in power are busy mis using funds. What a world we live in to day!

    • Do not show your dullness on this fora, what budgeting are you talking about? That’s why there is supplementary budget …….take your dullness elsewhere please! Obviously kumwenu mulala fye insala…kkkkk

    • JUST LOOKING

“.Do not show your dullness on this fora, what budgeting are you talking about? That’s why there is supplementary budget..”

You mean supplementary budget over run ? The one lungu needs donating partners to give money for ?

  5. ZAF challenger jet headed for Harare soon for Edgar Lungu’s favourite sports -airport ceremonies and foreign inaugurations.

    • He can’t wait Lazy is busy packing as I type …he will stay there for two days no wonder he was quiet, any neighbour would have raised concern immediately.

  6. These election results in Zimbabwe remind me of our own results here in Zambia in 2006 where Sata won in urban areas.Chimasa has won in urban areas. So it depends on what Mnangagwa will do for Zimbabweans between now and the next elections for him to continue in power.Chimasa is still young. His time will definitely come

    • Won Urban but the seats are in rural areas …he has 60+ to 170 of Zanu-PF…he will check be barking in the background.

  7. Congratulations to presisent elect Mnangagwa and well done Nelson Chamisa!!!The future for Chamisa is very bright because he (Chamisa) has become Zimbabwe’s Michael Sata!!Chamisa won urban votes which Kalusa (HH) has failed to achieve since 2006!!!Many Zimbabwean voters in urban areas are tired of 38 years rule of Zanu-PF,so soon this party will be history there. But UPND should never compare their HH to Chamisa because Kainde has never won elections in urban (Lsk and CB) since 2006 and HH wont achieve that in 2021!!!But maturity is needed from MDC leaders.Declaring themselves winners before people vote or before ZEC announces official results is what has destroyed Kainde’s political career in Zambia.Plus that behaviour is a source of protests,it must be avoided or else Chamisa will soon…

    • No matter what you think of HH , there is one thing that never ceases to amaze , the total fixation of HH by the PF kaponya rats….they sleep HH wakeup HH , iam sure even their wife’s will say they mention HH when intimate …….the PF kaponya women rats even worse…..now the name HH is synonymous with sexual frustrations for the likes of one Sharon…

  8. Politics it’s game of men like maradonas you can use any method to win the cup.you think ruling party can just watch at you getting the power?mwaomba ilyauma.use tactics and stop complaining every day

  9. It’s Deja vu…..I warned here that those celebrations were too premature. At least Mugabe was “honest” about the elections in that he never hid the fact that only him will be president regardless of the results. ..
….Remember Mugabe lost to Tsivangarai but refused to concede

  10. Darkness,Poverty,Diseases, underdevelopment,corruption,incomptence,efficenecy,ignorance has trumphed.
Any way, who cares. This is Africa.

  11. 144 parliamentary seats to 64 is serious walloping. Even if Chamisa won presidential vote, he would have been a lame duck in government. No influence whatsover. The beauty about the Zimbabwean constitution is that there are no bye-elections. So MPs can not be bought to defect so as to cause a bye-election.
Secondly, the alliance chairman Morgan Komichi is just fake. First, earlier in the day, we saw tweets from MDC officials at the Results Centre earlier in day showing their officials at the Centre conducting a verification. So, it is not true to say they were denied entry into the Results Centre. Second, if there was disagreement on totalling or tallying of results from constituencies, then Komichi should have made photocopies of their record and distribute to the press to prove MDC…

  12. ……continued!!!!. It is not an offence to announce declared results. So, it is merely sour grapes. Afterall, MDC said even before elections that they will not accept the results. Komichi’s display is therefore not surprising. It adds no value. Bravo Mnangagwa.

  14. Bunch of thieves from pfoooooool are preparing themselves for the ceremony at the expense of poor Zambians….lol

  15. GOOD ARTICLE LT with some figures to give us a good idea of how things went. Those with a good idea of Zim’s history can see how and why the results are as they are but would also observe that MDC has done reasonably well in rural areas, ZANU-PF’s strongholds. Zimbabweans including MDC should scrutinize these results and understand that they have turned a corner towards better elections! Having a huge margin in a major urban area (Harare) does not conclude the election results. The opposition divided the votes and should work towards consolidating themselves and ensure they preserve and improve on their gains. As @10 Democrat and @11 Njimbu have said what has happened to MDC happened to PF in 2006,they worked hard to win 5 years later!

  16. Lazy Jay Jay with some lazy unresearched comments again. Please tell us about directionless h.h, is he still crying after the recent by elections? Where is he? Watching his party melt into oblivion like butter, starting with his cadres abandoning him!!

  17. Congratulations ED!!!! I see that you have another underfive h.h on your hands. Difference is that yours, Chamisa, is not propped up by tribe. Which means that he will not try to block the presidential motorcade!!!!

Lazy jj, you want to hitch a ride to Harare on the Challenger? That will pacify you lazy ??

  18. A very sad result for the suffering simple people in Zimbabwe. After decades of apparent mismanagement under Zanu PF, decay and decadence will continue. Once again, the political West was naive in believing another outcome of this election was possible, and with a blind eye it will continue to support the new and old elite! Mnangagwa was a reckless representative of the Mugabe regime, and he was also ruthless in pushing aside the older monster. However grateful it may be for the political demise of Mugabe, Zimbabwe will continue to live with the same old, festering wound of incompetence, corruption and shameless abuse of the rights of ordinary citizens. It is often said in this context about the legacy of colonialism. Today, after many years of independency wasted, this is pure nonsense…

    • Additionally he will crush MDC by frustrating them…in 5 years time Chamisa will be worn out. The likes of Mnangagwa can not just give up power as they feel the people owe them for ridding off “oppressor” Bob. Let the money start coming in and the Army top brass is well fed.

    • Jay Jay, stop being naive naiwe. Who do you think has been stealing diamonds in Zimbabwe and Congo DRC in conjunction with Chinese?

  19. …For the lust for power from the blow of a Mnangagwa is the factor that keeps Zimbabwe in the current situation. Especially sad for Africa, which has to continue to deal with another macho model of personalized ruler. Mnangagwa would never give up power after this election. The future for Zimbabwe remains open, subject to a democratic change until further notice.

    • People in rural areas in Africa are just not quick to embrace change even in 1991 in Zambia when MMD won people in rural areas were voting for UNIP…technology might be the game changer for rural areas.

  20. The boy Nelson Chamisa is immature and does not mean well for the people of Zimbabwe. How does he incite people to be violent? SIMPLE! His interest is power and NOT the interest of Zimbabweans.
Congratulations Comrade Mnangagwa! Its true there’s major shift in election atmosphere compared to the period of Uncle Bob.

  21. The elections in Zimbabwe were just formality – to legitimise the military coup that took place last year; so that they can have acceptance from the international community. Zimbabweans leaders have set a very bad precedent; there was no way the army could have let the opposition test the reigns of power, which they have been enjoying with ZANU-PF since the time of Mr Mugabe. Imagine just a few months ago, the soldiers were dancing with civilians on the streets of Harare and now they have turned against the same people because they have something to protect – power (the coup leader is now the VP and I’m sure many more have been given good positions). Only God will come to the rescue of the many suffering Zimbabweans. God bless Zimbabwe! Isaiah 49:24 – 26

  22. ANY assistance UPND shall give to MDC ALLIANCE? I propose a UPND ALLIANCE BE MADE NOW IN zAMBIA AS WE FACE kasenengwa

  23. ED Munangagwa is the right President for Zimbabwe. Imagine president underfive guiding Zimbabwe out of its monumental challenges!! The boy Chamisa does not give me confidence at all, I bet he was already counting how much loot was heading his way once elected President. The script is not different from Zambia, believe me, except for the fundamental difference of the tribal element in Zambia. And that the Zimbabwean underfive has to wait seven years before the next shot at president, instead of five years in Zambia. In fact the Zambian underfive was very lucky, he had five shots at the post within a space of 12 years, i.e. average of of 2.4 years per shot. But very dull tribal strategies, like fighting corruption with a very corrupt running mate in an effort to hoodwink the bembas who are…

  24. ….
But very dull tribal strategies, like fighting corruption with a very corrupt running mate in an effort to hoodwink the bembas who are too shrewd for underfive’s kind of politics.
    Ask Lazy jj…

  25. ZANU PF has done what it does best. Elections were clearly rigged, this makes me wonder what the hell Africans discus when they convene at the AU in Addis Ababa. I personally think they teach other how to rig n maintain authoritarian regimes. They are so determined to remain in power because of their past deeds knowing that the next coming leader will prosecute them.
So many inauguration s this year for the da gamas of this world….Zim, Mali n Congo coming up
