Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo has stepped down as the UPND’s Chief Whip in Parliament.
The UPND has since replaced Mr Nkombo with Liuwa Member of Parliament Hon Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane.
This was confirmed by UPND Secretary General Steven Katuka during a news briefing.
Mr Katuka said and Nkombo has voluntarily retired as Party Whip.
He said Kabompo Member of Parliament Hon Ambrose Lufuma has been re-appointed as Deputy Party Whip while Nalikwanda Member of Parliament Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa continues as UPND Parliamentary Liason Committee Chairman.
“The Party wishes to thank and commend Hon Nkombo for serving as Whip with honour, diligence and efficiency. The Party would also like to thank Dr Musokotwane for accepting to serve as Whip. We are confident that Dr Musokotwane will serve the party with honour and dignity,” Mr Katuka said.
I met my brother gary few weeks ago where we discussed his future aims and plans. Gary would like to spend more time concentrating on other personal things. He will remain upnd member and continue to play a role in our party. Gary has also done this in the spirit of giving younger generations a crack at the whip too. We thank you.

Please note that there is a difference between someones age and someones political age or thereof political experience. Gary might be younger by birth but that does not mean that situmbeko has had the opportunity to be in such a position under upnd as long as gary. We do not discriminate based on age in upnd. When i say younger generation i mean younger in terms of experience in our party. Everyone deserves a chance to lead. Those positions are not person to holder. A party on the decline. Everyone has lost steam. Losing elections 6 times is not a joke when they can see the 7th time is around the corner. The signs of the end are clear. They can all see that it was a meaningless & directionless run.
