The Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) says improving the effectiveness of the Public Financial Management system in the country can generate socio-economic benefits for Zambians.

PMRC Executive Director Bernadette Deka said Public Financial Management can help bring accountability and transparency in the utilization of resources for socio-economic development.

In a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Ms Deka noted that the Public Finance Management Act and other supporting regulations are contentious matters affecting the country.

Ms. Deka said promoting responsible allocation, spending and audit of funds under the Public Financial Management can help reduce poverty and spur economic growth.

She said Zambia can benefit greatly from an effective PFM system as it is a necessary condition for most development outcomes.
