Spouse to People’s Party President Mike Mulongoti Betty Mulongoti has expressed profound gratitude to President Edgar Lungu for evacuating her husband to receive specialized medical treatment.
Mrs. Mulongoti said the quick action by President Lungu to evacuate her husband to South Africa will save his life.
She said that Mr. Mulongoti was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital for two weeks and his condition was deteriorating as special medical tests that were being done were being sent to South Africa for analysis.
Mrs. Mulongoti said doctors in South Africs had assured her that they have began the process of tests and treatment.
And Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba said tremendous efforts have been made to invest in the health sector in Zambia.
Mr. Mwamba said the Ministry of Health has continued to invest in laboratory, diagnosis and specialized medical equipment, factors that usually cause foreign medical evacuations.
He said Zambia has qualified medical personel running hospitals all over the world hence the decision to invest in gaps that caused foreign access to treatment.
Mr. Mwamba said in the long term, Zambia would achieve regional and world class standards at the pace of investment being done to the Health Sector.
He said this when he visited Mr. Mulongoti at the hospital.
President Lungu last week directed that People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti, be evacuated to South Africa for specialised medical treatment.
Mr. Mulongoti is admitted to Awrwyp Medical Center in Johannesburg and was brought by an air ambulance on Sunday morning.
Ungrateful quacks.

I wish Mr.Mulongoti a quick recovery however I want to recommend that medical evacuations on a govt bill should stop immediately. We can use that money to improve medical services locally. The system which encourages the evacuations of the political elite on tax payers money is disgraceful. Let us learn from Cuba. Evacuating of patients to RSA should be halted by improving our own medical facilities.
One medical doctor at morningside told me there are at least 50 govt-sponsored Zambians at their hospital each time.
Also add cost of hosting relatives escorting the patients are all bourne by tax-payers who have to endure the death-trap called UTH.
We need visionary leadership, not these playboys.

This is a shame. Honestly clueless Lungu must be voted out. Fifty four years after Independence, we can’t carry out our own medical analysis in the country? This guy Mulongoti is lucky that King Lungu felt pity on him and had to fly him out to South Africa. What about the many millions of poor Zambians who can’t afford recognition by Lungu? Who is looking out for them? I mean we can’t even carry out a DNA test in Zambia. That’s how backward we are. Honestly, clueless Lungu must go…come 2021. Its wrong to take Mulongoti to South Africa at the expense of tax payers money. We have so many poor people suffering and some dying who need specialised treatment than mulongoti.
Mulongoti has never voted for Lungu in his life. We should as Lungu to pay medical bills from his own pocket not government money. Mulongoti has been always in government and he has alot of money. Your government select you should be rushed for specialist treatment while others are condemned to die in stink dirt hospitals without panado. The presidents go for knee check ups in South Africa while their people die. Emmanuel Mwamba finds pride in taking photos with those they value in SA clinics but he cannot take same photo in stink UTH and other hospitals.

Doesn’t surprise me. Nigerian president campaigned on the platform of non evacuation of leaders for medical treatment. But alas he spent almost two years in England for treatment. Perhaps we should all block whichever plane is planning to take our leaders for overseas treatment.
Actually I find the whole episode of evacuating Mulyongoti disgusting. President Lungu literary stated that these idoit politicians, all politicians in fact, are more important than the rest of Zambian citizens. So important that he the President has the right to spend our tax money on the idoits that he chooses to confer with the status of “VVVVIP”. I apologise if the President used his own money. If not, I find it shameful that a party which was supposedly founded on equality and to serve the poor can use the same poor people’s tax evacuating all manner of idoits. When Sata was flown to South Africa for treatment by Levy Mwanawasa ,the matter was private.We did not see pictures of Kaseba Sata with embassy officials.
Besides this is taxpayers money and not PF money.
Which country where you living in then? The entire evacuation was shown not in pictures but on ZNBC TV so many times as Sara lay on that stretcher with oxygen equipment all around him being put into the air ambulance.
Let’s not reinvent history please. Mwanawasa was not what you want to make him. The only difference here is that Sara’s condition deteriorated quickly and he was flown out at night, but still Cameras were sent to cover the whole event.

This is where we miss it. These are private hospitals like Cfb, or Hilltop, Ridgeway etc.. This thing of govt everything is worrying.
Let the private sector build and equip these state of the art hospitals and employ the able Zambian medical staff running these foreign clinics.
This is an investment opportunity just like the hotels, lodges, and shopping malls that we’re building… So let those with the money please do it. My guess is we don’t have the money.
