Police on the Copperbelt are looking for two truck drivers who allegedly attempted to steal a truck carrying 36 tonnes of Copper concentrates in Chingola District.

A Chinese man has since been arrested to help with investigations in the attempted copper theft.

It is alleged that the duo, while transporting copper concentrates from the Democratic Republic of Congo valued around US$100,000, diverted the truck upon reaching Chingola.

Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga stated that police trailed the truck which was found in Chingola’s light industrial area off the Chingola-Chililabombwe road where the duo abandoned it.

Katanga stated that the driver of the truck identified as David Musandile and his colleague are currently on the run.

She stated that the truck Registration Number ACX 2439 and trailer ACM 2321 is currently at Chingola Central Police Station.

“…police have picked up Zhang Lianan, 42, a Chinese national of Chingola Light Industrial area and an escort security guard from Panorama Security Services namely Laston Makungu and detained them at Chingola Central Police to help with investigations,” stated Katanga.

  1. Sorry did you say to “Help with investigation”
The master mind is the Chinese national, we Zambians don’t steal such thing, the Chinese will walk free and the zambian will be put into jail

    • John..agreed. Unfortunately nothing will happen to this Chinese national, as they’re well protected by corrupt Lungu. The normal thing would’ve been to make sure the Chinese national, if found guilty, be sent to prison, and then deported after serving prison time. But we all know that Lungu wouldn’t allow that. Instead, it’s the Zambians that’ll face prison time.

    • These are some of the Chinese convicts that were sent to Zambia to finish their jail terms whilst working for Chinese companies in Zambia.

Crop the Chinese and not the Hippos.

      God Bless Zambia.

  2. Theft of copper concentrate has become rampant with security guards, mine police conniving with drivers. It’s very much an inside job. The interception of this one is just a tip of a huge iceberg.

  3. Treat this Chinese guy as you would treat a Zambian copper thief and have him lead you to his associates and inspect their operations. Any violations against Zambian laws that may warrant suspension or withdrawal of their operations should be noted and suspensions effected and heavy fines should be imposed. Its the only way foreign nationals will respect our laws. However for Zambian police officers, this will be their time to eat some Chinese cuisine….

  4. Lie Detector
You are spot on also, and so is Dustin.
Ladies and gentlemen we have a choice coming soon….. What are we going to do with this power of the vote that we have.
Keep things as they are and suffer even more or take a leap of faith and make the change

    • @John, we are between a hard place and a rock. Whichever choice we make, I think we are in for it.

  5. Just release him, since when did PF government found offences or any thing wrong with Chinese?

  6. John, we change to what? is it not recent that some leader was on the side of mines not to give in to new tax regimes? That when you make a mistake of voting he will repeal the SI so that mines don’t give to Zambians enough taxes. Then some company is just waiting as a vulture to come and takeover the mines to recover the monies they have been giving some guy during elections as payback? So we change to what?

  7. If this was reversed to a Zambian committing such a crime in China it would have been death penalty.

  8. these Chinese mwandi,it’s too much, but if it’s a Zambian in China it’s death pernauty.
